Mickey falls asleep and has an adventure with bakers in a kitchen. Admittedly, I‘m not a follower of Sendak (I‘m not a fan of Where the Wild Things Are…don‘t hate me!), but I thought I would give this Caldecott Honor a try. It was just okay for me. I was a bit horrified by what the bakers do to Mickey. And, as you view the illustrations, you will guess why this book has been challenged so much over the years.. #BBRC #PictureBook Letter I

LibrarianRyan Yep. One I reference frequently. And I get the wild things. I‘m not the biggest fan either. 2y
Kerrbearlib This was one of my favorites as a child. My dad used to read it to me and I memorized most of it. ❤️ 2y

“the bakers who bake in the night so we can have bread in the morn.“ Surreal fantasy picture book of a boy who almost gets baked into the dough!

I recommend this for the artistry, but also warn you that there are multiple pictures of a little boy‘s naked body. Full frontal. It‘s very Alice in Wonderland-y to me, with no discernible reason for some parts of the story. Still, mildly entertaining and beautifully drawn. The chefs remind me of Oliver Hardy.

One of the perks of dating someone with a kid: getting to revisit all of your childhood favorites. Maurice Sendak is one of my all-time favorite illustrators, from Where the Wild Things Are to Hector Protector. This is such a classic and I‘m glad I got to read it again after so many years!

CaitlinR Lucky you! 5y

Day 2 #JuneBookBugs #LGBTQAuthors I knew some of these favorites were LGBTQ authors & the others I googled. In the past I have focused more on the work rather than the author's life but I am trying to continue diversify my reading in all aspects. I loved all of these books. 🌈💜❤️💚💙💛💗

merelybookish Jacqueline Woodsen is so good. But all of these writers are! 7y

Reading our well-loved copy of this to my littlest in honor of Banned Books week. I can't even begin to count how many times this book has been read to our children. #bannedbooks #bannedbooksweek
