As I‘ve mentioned before, I‘m just over a month into a year-long book-buying ban. For some, this probably doesn‘t seem like a big deal, but for me, it feels pretty much impossible. In order to cope, I‘ve revived my old blog and am writing about it. Here‘s the link: https://wordsforhappy.com/blog/

peacegypsy You are strong! It might be easier for me to just plain fast! Way to go! 6y
saresmoore @peacegypsy I can‘t tell you how many times I‘ve had that thought. And I also think about how many books I could buy with the money I spend on groceries! I have a problem, clearly. 6y
peacegypsy @saresmoore Then I do, too! I was going to suggest some sort of treatment facility for people like me, but then I just got excited because it might have packed bookshelves! 😂🤭🤫😳 6y
See All 42 Comments
Kalalalatja You might be the strongest person I know! 👏👏 6y
Moray_Reads "Bonnet-ripper" ? Stay strong, Sara. I'm in awe of your willpower! 6y
saresmoore @peacegypsy 🤣 My daughter tried to tell me that she wasn‘t going to give me a book for my birthday because I already have “too many books” ... ... ... I‘m sorry, what?! No, sweetheart. Just, no. That‘s not a thing. 6y
TrishB I think it‘s a massive deal! I know I just couldn‘t do it. Not because I don‘t have enough books to get me through..... 6y
saresmoore @Kalalalatja I suppose we‘ll see about that! It does help that I have a birthday coming up and my mom bought me a lovely Folio Society edition of Anna Karenina. 😍 Here‘s hoping the rest of my family will follow suit with book gifts! 6y
saresmoore @Moray_Reads Thank you, Moray! I still haven‘t really figured out my motivation for it, but I‘m sure I‘ll have some existential realization along the way. Meanwhile, per your brilliant suggestion, I‘ve set up a fund in the budget for my fast. Every successful month earns me $25 for next year. 6y
saresmoore @TrishB Right? I still spend way too much time browsing the library. I think I‘m addicted to new books. 6y
peacegypsy My daughter steers me away from bookshops too. She can spill, she can drop wrappers, bottom line: she can do a lot of stuff, but taking me away from a bookstore is NOT allowed! 😊😂 6y
TrishB Snap! Think about all the books you can buy with that money next year! 6y
BarbaraBB You can write! Great blog! 6y
saresmoore @peacegypsy Amen to that! 😆 6y
saresmoore @TrishB Oh, believe me, I am! 🤤 6y
saresmoore @BarbaraBB Thank you! I do love to write...when I actually get around to it. 😬 6y
LauraBeth This is a pretty big deal! 👏👏 6y
saresmoore @LauraBeth A year is a long time! 6y
MicheleinPhilly YAY! I miss book blogs! If you look at your stats tomorrow during the work day, you don‘t have a crazy stalker, just a semi-normal stalker that will read all of your entries to break up her work day. 😘 6y
LeahBergen That was so fun to read! I subscribed and will be a crazy stalker like @MicheleinPhilly 😘 6y
saresmoore @MicheleinPhilly @LeahBergen Aw, shucks! I‘m honored! ♥️♥️ 6y
vivastory I also subscribed & will be joining @LeahBergen & @MicheleinPhilly in stalking your blog! 6y
saresmoore @vivastory I‘ve never been so happy to have stalkers before! 😄 6y
vivastory 😂😂 6y
Prairiegirl_reading See I could never do it and if I did I would just make a huge wish list and buy twice as many the following year. 😕 6y
Prairiegirl_reading I also subscribed! 6y
ValerieAndBooks Love your writing! Good luck with your buying ban! Funny that the first day of your ban was on April 1st — if I had read that post on that day, I surely would have thought it was a joke 😊. Another new subscriber here! 6y
batsy I'm in awe of your resolve, Sara! You are my bookish hero 😁 And you're making me contemplate a book-buying fast... At the very least, I should read most of my books and then clear out what I won't keep before buying more 😳 And I planned to send you a birthday something, but it's definitely not going to arrive in time, so watch out for a little something from Book Dep and I hope to get your gift to you within your birthday month, at least 😆 6y
batsy Also, I've readily signed up to be one of your stalkers! ❤️📝 6y
erzascarletbookgasm You have my greatest admiration. I know I won‘t succeed if I ever resolve to do it, even for a few months. I‘ve subscribed btw! 😊 6y
saresmoore @batsy ♥️♥️♥️ I planned to send you a gift, oh, about a month ago, but I want to read What I Loved first so I can add it to the package and it just keeps getting pushed to the back burner. 🙄 Hopefully you‘ll receive it before YOUR birthday! 🙃 6y
saresmoore @Prairiegirl_reading I thought the same thing, but ironically, my wishlist is becoming more specific, if anything! 🤔 I consider myself an experimental guinea pig. 6y
saresmoore @ValerieAndBooks Thank you, friend! ♥️ 6y
saresmoore @erzascarletbookgasm I thought making it through the first month would have been more satisfying, but it just made me realize how much longer I have to go. This might end up being hard until the very end! 6y
britt_brooke But, did you take a “bonnet-ripper” home? 😆 6y
saresmoore @britt_brooke I‘m trying to come up with a valid snarky response to that question, but I just can‘t settle on anything. Although—who knows—Amish romance might just be Christian fiction at its finest! 🤔😝 6y
Suet624 Well of course I‘ll be subscribing! And I had no idea you had the goal of not buying books. What a challenge! 6y
britt_brooke @saresmoore Could be, haha! 😆 That it‘s such a specific genre always cracks me up. Good luck on your ban! 6y
saresmoore @Suet624 I‘ve mostly kept quiet about it. A part of me is still doubting my resolve. 😬 I realized as I started this that I can‘t remember a time in my life since middle school when I didn‘t buy books! I‘ve gone months without buying much food (thank you, California social programs), but not books. Ha! It feels kinda itchy. 6y
Suet624 @saresmoore I totally get itchy if I don‘t have a stack of library books. Even though I have boxes of my own books to read (and that I desperately want to read!). See how it goes. Life is short. Libraries, I swear, are what keep me going. They are free and I can grab as many books as I want. 😀 (edited) 6y
Suet624 I just had another thought. Wouldn‘t it be funny if everyone who read your blog sent you the book you were gasping over? 6y
saresmoore @Suet624 It would be funny! I hope, though, that they‘d buy it for themselves, love it, and review it. Libraries really are the best and a true privilege for us in the U.S. There were a few years when I could walk to the local library and those were some of the best years of my life. I loathe car culture & driving. 6y

My husband did the artwork so I could start a blog. At this point, I just need my ancient laptop to comply. Advice is welcome for this nervous blogging newbie.

rubyslippersreads I don't have any blogging advice, but I ❤️❤️❤️ the name! 6y
Godmotherx5 @rubyslippersreads I was so excited to see it was not taken during my search. My laptop chose now to slow down. Timing is everything. (edited) 6y
Lmstraubie You got this!!! 👍👍👍 6y
Susanita I don‘t have a blog but I enjoyed 6y
drokka The only advice I have is be yourself, don't let others pressure you, remember it's an opinion so don't engage with trolls (hopefully it won't come to that). Mostly though, share your link with bookish people like on here. 6y
Lacythebookworm Good luck! 😊 6y
Godmotherx5 @Lmstraubie @Susanita @drokka @Lacythebookworm I do worry about trolls. Even with the best of intentions, I know people will react. I‘m trying to keep positive. Thanks for the wonderful #Litsy support. #Littens are the best & make me feel safe. 🤗 6y

Thank u!

Kati15 I use blogspot because to me it is much easier to use, and I have no problem with it so far. I wish you the best of luck on your blog. I've been book blogging for almost three years now, and it has been the best decision that I made to start blogging. 6y
SilversReviews I use Blogspot and really like it. It will be 8 years for me this July. LOVE BLOGGING and especially the wonderful people I have met. 6y
NovelGirl82 I use Wordpress. I haven't had any issues with it, so far, and it's pretty easy to use. 6y
Jess7 @LittleWonder has a book blog! 6y
LittleWonder I use Worspress because it's free and very easy to use (there's also an App) mine (cuppateanbooks) does need a desperate full revamping and much needed attention!!!! Thanks for the shout out @Jess7 🤗 6y

I wasn't as productive as I'd hoped but I did get a new post up on my blog http://cocosgroaningbookshelves.blogspot.com. I have half an hour before I usually head home from work so I think I'll spend it reading.

BarbaraTheBibliophage That's a great name for your blog! 🤣🤣 7y
CocoReads @BarbaraTheBibliophage thanks. I'm still trying to figure it all out. I haven't really had the time to really figure it all out yet so I just play here and there. 7y
BarbaraTheBibliophage The most important thing is to keep posting regularly. Hope you have some time to dedicate to it soon! 7y

I'm not feeling the whole work thing today but I'm here. Although in reality I've done very little work. However, I finally decided to start a blog. http://cocosgroaningbookshelves.blogspot.com/?m=1

queerbookreader Yay blogs! How exciting I'll check it out 7y
CocoReads It's nothing too exciting yet. Just a bit of an intro. I'm at work and so I'm just figuring things out as I go since I'm super new at this! 7y

CocoReads I started one there too years ago but pretty much did nothing with it. I tried it first but I was having trouble figuring things out. Although that totally could have been the day I was having. 7y

Every time I see posts about personal libraries I get quiet. My #bookishconfession ? I radically reduced my home library... And by radically I mean thousands
The whole story can be found on my brand new book blog http://www.ubookquitous.com/why-i-removed-thousands-of-books-from-my-library/
Before judging, I hope you read my story. And of course subscribe to my blog! Reviews, Thoughts on Reading & more. Got a blog? I'll Xsubscribe #riotgrams

DogMomIrene Interesting journey and post! Like you, my physical book collection has shrunk. One aspect of Litsy that I love is seeing the book piles and shelves virtually. (edited) 7y

Hello all! I have suffered from anxiety since I was in middle school and recently depression struck which hit me so hard I wasn't able to finish school. I know some of you are really good writers and wanted to just ask that you take a look at my online journal, if you will, and some of my short, very short, stories. I would absolutely love feedback from you all since I hold every one of you in the highest regards. modernsemicolon.wordpress.com 😘

EllieDottie I read one of your blog posts and I really liked it! I think it was your most recent one 7y
