The Dinner List | Rebecca Serle

Pickpick

Finally finished The Dinner List by Rebecca Serle (I‘m a super slow reader sometimes) and I can‘t say enough about how great it was. It‘s the perfect book to devour on a day when you just want to stay cozy and not leave your bed. I believe it goes on sale tomorrow, so be sure to check it out!!!

Catching up on the books I've finished lately! Was anyone else disappointed by the ending to the Red Queen series? I honestly was so bored and just resented most of the characters (except Evangeline) by the end. If I hadn't been listening to the audiobook, I would've DNF-ed.

I have such conflicting feelings about this series. I LOVE the concept and the imagery. The characters are frustrating but only because they're flawed people. But the execution of the stories -- there are so many subplots I feel that never get tied up or that only exist because the writer wrote herself into a corner and needed an easy out. Does anyone else feel this way? But the ends always leave me wanting to know what happens next!

The Tea Rose: A Novel | Jennifer Donnelly
post image

Welp, I overslept and have 14.5 hours of reading left to do today, so I think it's safe to say I'm not making my 24 hour goal. But let's see how far I can get! I'm currently at 9hr22m. For the #24in48 #undertheradar challenge, my pick is The Tea Rose by Jennifer Donnelly. It‘s been one of my faves for over 10 years. The whole series is amazing. It has everything - history, romance, adventure, kick-ass ladies - what more could you want?! @24in48

Book #2: ✅ Ms. Marvel Civil War II was great! We got more of Kamala's family's story and really got inside her conflicted feelings re: Captain Marvel. Now time for some coffee so I can be alert enough to read through midnight and accomplish my goal of at least 10 hours today. I started at 5 a.m. and squeezed in as much as I could (at about 6.5 hours now) between stuff with family, doing yard work, and hanging out with the husband. #24in48 @24in48

I LOVED this book. Sign me up for anything Gail Carriger writes. Strong, independent American woman with crappy parents meets stubborn, grumpy British werewolf. What follows is a funny, cute and highly engaging steampunk story of love and intrigue. 😻

jpmcwisemorgan Have you read the Parasol Protectorate or the other two series that this is associated with? 6y
abbiereadsbooks @jpmcwisemorgan I have! I've read just about all of her books. I think I'm just missing one or two novellas and her latest novel. She's one of my favorite authors! 6y
jpmcwisemorgan She‘s one of my favorites too! I‘m still reading the Custard Protocol series so I‘ve not read all of the novellas yet. I was trying to read them where she says they belong chronologically. 6y

Hey friends! I'm desperately seeking a copy of Lunch at Boney's Mound for my dad for his birthday! It's out of print so a used copy is the way I need to go, but on Amazon and eBay copies are nearly $200. Do you have any other resources you use when you're trying to hunt down an old used book?! Any advice would be greatly appreciate!

So I don't know if I've posted about it on here, but my sweet 6 year old kitty has cancer and it's not treatable and he doesn't have a lot of time left. Today one of my friends from high school who I'm not so close with anymore sent me this sweet stuffed animal. I don't know if I've ever cried so hard in my life.

Glass Sword | Victoria Aveyard
post image

I. Am. Struggling. I LOVED Red Queen. I thought it was super unique, very well-paced and just generally a great read. Glass Sword is definitely a sophomore slump so far. Please, anyone who has read it, is it worth finishing? I'm maybe 1/3 of the way through. I don't want to DNF it, but I honestly don't know if I can keep going.

Owlizabeth I‘d push through because book three is muuuuuch better! 6y
Mads.Bookcorner I would push though. It was hard for me to finish just because I felt like Mare was being a weird character. I hear the third book is the best! 6y
abbiereadsbooks @Owlizabeth @Mads.Bookcorner Thanks!! I just finished. It was a real struggle, but I started to enjoy it a little more toward the end. I'll have to add book 3 to my TBR! 6y

Time to see what all the hype's about! Reading this one for a book club before the movie comes out. For those who have read it already: do you think the movie will stack up to the book? Also, did you know Wil Wheaton reads the audiobook?!

Soubhiville I‘m so excited for you, reading it for the first time! I loved the audio, I‘ve read/ listened three times! I‘m dubious about the movie, I‘ve heard already that some scenes were left out... but even if it doesn‘t mirror the book too much, I hope it‘ll be a fun movie. Enjoy your listen! 6y

Oof, you guys. This book started out pretty promising but quickly took a turn for the terrible. I LOVE P&P adaptations. But Darcy (the female protagonist in this telling) was the most unlikeable person. I could not get on her side no matter how hard I tried. The book was a cute idea, but didn't quite get there in execution.

Question: Would you consider donating books via mail to an indie bookstore start-up? My friend is trying to open the first indie bookstore in her town, and she's going to start with used/donated inventory to keep overhead low as she gets started. I'm trying to gauge if Litsy might be a good place for her to seek donations, so let me know what you think! Would you be comfortable donating books via mail to someone who will sell them for profit?

Snuck one more in under the wire for June! I really enjoyed this book. I love how the author works humor throughout stories that could otherwise be super heavy and serious. Enjoying this so far! I'm listening on audiobook specifically because I love the narrator's voice (that Australian accent omg). I've already got my guess for who the culprit is and how the end will play out so we'll see if I'm right! I'll post my guess in the comments under the spoiler guard!

abbiereadsbooks I think John Paul is the killer and that's what his secret letter was about. Isabelle reminds him of Janey which is why he looks at her weird. Not sure how Tess's story ties in, but I'm assuming it's got to do with her past relationship with the gym teacher guy who Rachel thinks is the killer. I also thought Janey might've been prego but I'm 2nd guessing that because she couldn't be if she died the same day she lost her virgonity. 7y

I had really mixed feeings about this book. I'm not really into the whole demons/vampires genre (especially in YA), but this was maybe the most interesting twist on that plot I've read recently.
