The Wind off the Small Isles
The Wind off the Small Isles | Mary Stewart
11 posts | 9 read | 1 reading | 15 to read
Beloved author Mary Stewart's long-lost novella, now back in print for the first time in 40 years and perfect for fans of Anya Seton, Daphne du Maurier and Santa Montefiore. 'Now she would spell love her own way...' In 1879, a wealthy young woman elopes with an impoverished fisherman, leaving her family, who live on the volcanic island of Lanzarote, distraught. In 1968, 23-year-old Perdita West, secretary to the famous author Cora Gresham, visits Lanzarote, the strangest and most wild of the Canary Isles, on a research trip. They meet Cora's estranged son, Mike, and fall in love with the unusual, beautiful little island. While snorkeling, a landslide traps Perdita in an underwater cave. No one knows where she is, so she can't count on a rescue. And her efforts to save herself will reveal the solution to a century-old mystery... The Wind off the Small Isles is Mary Stewart's sweeping, romantic long-lost novella, finally being brought back to print in a beautiful, all new edition for the first time in more than four decades.

Still to be read, it‘s a #blameitonlitsy purchase, more specifically blame it on @LeahBergen or I wouldn‘t know of this author 😉. A little tale of love and mystery set in the island of Lanzarote, Canary Islands.

1. I looooove this cover!
2. Nothing really, except helping the 5yo make her class Valentines. I should‘ve made Galentine plans, I‘ve done it in the past with girlfriends, but it feels too late now. 😝
3. Yellow, or yellow-green. 🤢
4. Jeremy. Not that different than Jessica...
5. ❤️❤️❤️ #friyayintro

Megabooks Jeremy and Jessica would be good twin names 🤔 6y
JessClark78 My mother picked Jeremy and Jessica for my names. 😀 6y

I paid a lot for this novella. But that‘s ok, because it was the only Mary Stewart I‘d never read, and because it‘s the prettiest book I own. 😍📚 #31bookpics #marystewart

#Bookmail from Book Depository ? Looking forward to my December reading. Early December is a cousin's wedding, and a whole gaggle of relatives from abroad will be around. I would like to be the kind of person for whom nonstop socialising is "fun", but yikes. ?

So I'm counting on a peaceful Christmas where I read my cozies and pretend it's "winter" over here ?❌

TheKidUpstairs 😍😍😍😍 Those are gorgeous. Best of luck getting through all the socializing! I feel you, I get overwhelmed very easily by that many people and that much smiling, happy talk. Knowing you've got some good books to escape to when it's done should help! 7y
Kalalalatja I feel you! Just the thought of all the social activities over the next few months make my eye twitch 😳 7y
batsy @TheKidUpstairs Yes, overwhelmed is exactly how I feel. Thank you, I will definitely escape into reading any chance I get 😆 7y

batsy @Kalalalatja Right? I hope you're able to let off steam on Litsy and that it helps. Hahaha, my eye twitches in solidarity 👊 7y
erzascarletbookgasm You received your books! They look good. Hope you‘ll be able to enjoy them and get some me-time amidst all the socialising. 7y
batsy @erzascarletbookgasm Oh, I'm embarrassed to say ... This was a later order 😳 The ones from September are still not here. Do I need to go on a book buying ban? ... Yes #PleaseSendHelp 😆😆 7y
LauraBrook Yikes indeed! These look like two excellent books to help you recover from all of that forced extroverting! No matter how much you love your family, other people can be so draining. 💗 7y
erzascarletbookgasm @batsy book buying ban? What medieval instrument of torture is that? #proudenabler 7y
batsy @LauraBrook So true ❤️ The tagged book is a total #blameitonlitsy purchase... @rubyslippersreads and @LeahBergen, in fact 😄 It sounds lovely. 7y
batsy @erzascarletbookgasm Knew I could count on Littens 😁 7y
Ms_T Sounds like a fun month. Enjoy! 7y
laurieluna I'm the same! Was at a Christening yesterday and all I wanted to do was sneak off to a corner of the function room and read the book I'd put in my bag. It's not that I don't like my relatives, I just find conversation awkward as I have so little in common with them. 7y
rubyslippersreads Glad I could encourage you to buy more books! 😄 7y
rubyslippersreads @batsy I think a book buying ban would be too stressful along with all the socializing you'll have to do. 😂 7y
RohitSawant Yikes is my reaction as well when it comes to family gatherings. 😱 7y
MayJasper Best wishes. 7y
LeahBergen I love the cover on the Stewart. It‘s a fun little old-fashioned read. And now I‘m off to read more about the other one. 😆 7y
LeahBergen It‘s so weird - I‘m tagged in this and yet have no notification. Hmmm... 7y
drokka Oh another British Library Crime Classic. They're my version of an Easter Egg hunt. 7y
drokka @LeahBergen Maybe because of the comma? Though I wouldn't have thought so. (edited) 7y
LeahBergen @drokka Ahh, I bet you that‘s it. It shows up in blue here, though. 🤔 And yes, I‘m always hunting these eggs, too. 😆 7y
batsy @Ms_T Thank you! I'm sure I will enjoy parts of it 😁 7y
batsy @miralunasbooknook That's exactly it! Even if I like (most 😁) of my extended relations, it's the nonstop engagement with others that can be quite taxing. 7y
batsy @rohit-sawant 😂👊 7y
batsy @MayJasper Thanks ☺️ 7y
batsy @rubyslippersreads You're right, what was I thinking 😂 7y
batsy @LeahBergen I'm having the same issue lately, where I've been tagged but don't get a notification. @drokka Interesting about the punctuation, I usually punctuate right after the tagged names and it still highlights as blue. 🤔 As for the BL Crime Classics, now I want to collect them all 😀 7y
drokka I wonder if it has something to do with the changes that had to be made because of the iOS updates. @LeahBergen 7y
batsy @drokka Maybe? Though I'm using Android ☺️ 7y
Sace Socializing is not fun. Ever. With anyone. It's taxing and exhausting. I hope you survive it! 7y
batsy @RestlessFickleBookSlut Thank you! It's comforting to have so many people here understand ❤️ 7y

Thanks so much, @LeahBergen , for this lovely vintage Mary Stewart, complete with its own library card! 😺 (And I'm framing that adorable postcard—Nicky says it looks like him.) 😽

rubyslippersreads @mcipher I had only read it as a magazine article PDF that was passed around the Mary Stewart GR group. Thrilled to have such a pretty vintage copy! 7y
TricksyTails 😍 I haven't read this but loved her Merlin series. What a score! (edited) 7y
LeahBergen You're so welcome ? (and I'm happy that it's "Nicky-approved" ?). I pre-read it before sending and really enjoyed it. 7y
tpixie @tricksytails I loved her Merlin/Arthur Books too! 7y
TricksyTails @tpixie Aren't they fantastic? I haven't read the ones from Mordred's perspective yet. Have you? 7y
tpixie @tricksytails No!!!! I didn‘t even know they existed I‘ll have to add them to my TBR! 7y
TricksyTails @tpixie 😂 So many books, so little time! I think this is the first from Mordred's perspective. 7y
