'You know how you can have those days at the office? You spill your coffee, the finance director goes on an expenses rampage, and then one of your favourite authors is murdered. Don't you hate it when that happens?'. Sam Clair finds herself on a roller coaster ride through the worlds of publishing and fashion - and violent death.

#kindnessandpositivityweek #sharethelove #day2 @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks @Andrew65

Although I have had to go back into shielding again today for a routine hospital procedure at the end of the month, I have this puzzle as well as my books to keep me from getting bored. I started it today and have already got the edges sorted!

Libby1 Take care, @jenniferw88 💜. 4y

#DNF Moving on to start April. I think I will find success with this as a beach read this summer. Unfortunately in the last two weeks, it read like noise on a page. Now the question is, what to start????

Vbrrgirl Belgravia please!!! 7y
Redy2trvl @Vbrrgirl Yes!!! We need to exchange this week. 7y

I‘m having a really hard time getting into this story. What should be an easy 1-2 day read is going on 5 days. It doesn‘t help that I started it with houseguests in town. Today is my first back to “normal” day, so let‘s see if things get better.

Getting a little reading in while my houseguests are on an errand. Not sure I care for Judith Flanders writing style.

@BrainyHeroine has given me the push I needed to finally participate in #nanowrimo, after years of thinking about it! I set my word goal low, so really it is more of a novella than a novel, but I am excited to start writing again, I gave it up after I started having babies! I am nervous but definitely up for a new challenge. Getting some inspiration from my favorite novelist Jane Austen this morning.

BrainyHeroine Yay for positive peer pressure! 7y
jpmcwisemorgan Yay! You can do it! 7y
CrowCAH You can do it! I‘m doing NaNo too!!! 7y
sammisho @CrowCAH are you using a word processor or handwriting? Trying to figure out best way to keep track of my word count since I am handwriting this? 7y
CrowCAH @sammisho both. I hand write at lunch time. Then I type those words and continue on in a word doc in the evening. 7y

I read this in a day not because it was such a gripping story as it was an easy summer read but it was still a solid story, very humourous, and full of matter of fact observations about a woman's experience, often in the workplace (e.g. the photo-ed explanation above). I appreciated Flanders' no BS voice and her characters, especially Helena.

""You have balls."... I'd just never wanted balls. Silly me."
Yea, those things seem damn uncomfortable, far too sensitive, and tbh imo ugly. Lol

llwheeler Lmao from your posts I might have to check this out just for this character. I love no nonsense ladies who have no use for the patriarchy/sexism 7y
Andrea4 This character and her mother were what really drove me through this book-with lots of laughs! 7y

Cape Cod fare: Turkey, cranberry chutney, lettuce, mayo courtesy of The Mason Jar, Harwichport. Oh! Of course Cape Cod cips😊@MrBook

MrBook That is awesome 😋! I love Cape Cod. The meal, the book, the color scheme, this whole picture is just wonderful 😎👌🏻!!! 8y
kspenmoll @MrBook @BookBabe your photos of food & books finally inspired me! Appreciate comments; have to confess color scheme not intentional! There is a character in The Little Women Letters, Tom, whose parents always read during dinner. He thought this was the norm until he married a non reader. Needless to say the marriage did not last! 8y
MrBook Oh boy lol!!! You have one of my favorite sparkling waters in the pic, by the way. The lemon one is sooo good. We keep cases of it in our pantry. 8y

Settling in for an afternoon read... Someone told me the book is Bridget Jones meet mystery genre...

MyBookLife It sounds intriguing! Please say what you thought if it later. 9y
Bookquilter I finished this book this morning... Bridget Jones comparison is thin, but the writing is snappy and smart. Definitely picking up the second book. 9y
