A Winter Haunting
A Winter Haunting | Dan Simmons
10 posts | 26 read | 24 to read
A once-respected college professor and novelist, Dale Stewart has sabotaged his career and his marriage -- and now darkness is closing in on him. In the last hours of Halloween he has returned to the dying town of Elm Haven, his boyhood home, where he hopes to find peace in isolation. But moving into a long-deserted farmhouse on the far outskirts of town -- the one-time residence of a strange and brilliant friend who lost his young life in a grisly "accident" back in the terrible summer of 1960 -- is only the latest in his long succession of recent mistakes. Because Dale is not alone here. He has been followed to this house of shadows by private demons who are now twisting his reality into horrifying new forms. And a thick, blanketing early snow is starting to fall ...

Mehso-so

Apparently I read this book a few years ago & it was so good I completely forgot it.
Basically it's the story of a ghost haunting his old childhood friend who is not so up with reality 👻

🎧 This book is better than I thought it would be!!

A disgraced professor moves home & rents a farm house once owned by the parents of a school age friend who‘s young life ended horribly in 1960.

His dark past follows him.

A short eerie book worth reading from the free Audible Plus Catalog.

This is the 2nd book in the Summer of Night series read by Bronson Pinchot ❤️ I own both & now I need to read Book 1.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Personally, I thought the first book, Summer of Night, had a more cohesive story. This one had enough creepiness to keep me interested, and a few scares I didn't see coming. If you're a fan of old school horror, you'll enjoy this one, just don't expect to be blown away by it.

Sequel to Summer of Night and an oddly Jamesian stew of possibly real, possibly imaginary phantoms and monsters which leaves the reader guessing how much is down to the protagonist's disturbed mental state and how much to be taken at face value. And a good ol' boy sheriff straight out of King's Desperation. Excellent.

Cathythoughts Great review.. must look up Summer of Night .. I‘m loving this cover 👍🏻 5y

A sequel to Summer of Night, but pales in comparison. This did not work for me and I had a difficult time understanding really what was going on. I suggest reading Summer of Night as it is excellent and forgoing the 2 sequels.

Dale returns to his childhood town 40 years after his friend, Duane, is killed in a horrific 'accident'. He decides to stay at Duane's abandoned family farm and creepy ish quickly starts happening. This will have you questioning what is real or fantasy. This is a solid creepfest. 😱😱😱😱

PS The audiobook is narrated by Bronson Pinchot and he's amazing!! #newfavoritenarrator

Books_Wine_Repeat @LeahBergen It's so creepy that I've been trying to return my copy on OverDrive and it keeps giving me an error message. 😱 7y
