Witch: Unleashed. Untamed. Unapologetic. | Lisa Lister
A witch is a wise woman, a healer. Yet for so long the word 'witch' has had negative connotations. In this book, third generation hereditary witch Lisa Lister explains the history behind witchcraft, why identifying as a healer in past centuries led women to be burned at the stake, and why the witch is reawakening in women across the world today. This book provides an overview of the different schools of witchcraft and the core principles and practices within them. Discover ancient wisdom made relevant for modern witches: The wheel of the year, the sabbats, the cycles of the moon. Tools to enhance your intuition, including oracle cards and dowsing, so that you can make decisions quickly and comfortably. Understanding the ancient use of the word 'medicine'. How to work with herbs, crystals and power animals so that you have support in your spiritual work. Work with the elements to achieve deep connection with the world around you.In addition, Lisa teaches personal, hands-on rituals and spells from her family lineage of gypsy witch magic to help you heal, manifest and rediscover your powers.

I would recommend this for a read even if you don't consider yourself spiritual. The author's takes on history and The Patriarchy are really interesting, and offer a take that I hadn't considered, but makes perfect sense. I found a warm familiarity when reading this, and I imagine others will too. I found I was reading aspects of myself that I hadn't shared and her words gave a sense of forgotten community that was pleasant. Give it a go.

Lister‘s style will not appeal to all, and while not inclusive to what my finance coach calls women+, as the target audience, I enjoyed this combination of memoir, history, and introduction to witchcraft guide. I could have done without some of the verbiage, but I also understand that reclaiming those words and rejecting any shame and discomfort around them is part of reclaiming the divine feminine power that has been stripped away by patriarchy.

Big, BIG thumbs down for this one. Aside from a tone and cadence I find annoying - this book willingly (and blatantly) excludes transgender, male, or otherwise "non-bleeding" witches.
I bailed on this - but I read enough to know that this one is a pan. And while I am not in the habit of putting books in the trash - this one's fate has been sealed. I will not perpetuate this mentality by donating or otherwise paying-it-forward with this one.

Any fun Easter plans?

Bookworm54 1) I have gone for the main book, These Witches don‘t Burn, on audio. 2) I have lots of favourite witch books! The Hollows series, women of the otherworld, the raging quiet, a discovery of witches... 3) no major plans really. We got the dog an Easter egg, it‘s my birthday Easter Monday (but not doing anything) and we tested out our new smoker yesterday with plans to bbq later today ☺️ 3y
Quill_Cadence 🧙‍♀️I am currently reading Witches Don't Burn 🧙‍♀️ I just finished the 5th book of The Witches of Pinecroft Cove by Nicole St. Claire and waiting for the 6th book which will released in June 🧙‍♀️ Nothing much planned for Easter. 3y
ElizaMarie @Bookworm54 I‘m also doing mine in audio. I am not saying I‘m loving it but it‘s enjoyable 3y

I‘m the target audience for this book (a cis-female feminist with some curiosity about witchcraft). Though there was some interesting information for beginners, I never really connected with the author‘s style.

Loved the cover!

This book is wonderful eye-opening, feminist, moving, educational, challenging, and a call to be all you can be because the world needs you now. Some have called her view of witch power bigoted for people who do not have wombs; she plainly explains she means the sacral and root chakras. People who are benefiting from patriarchy will call this an "angry feminist" book because they don't understand that we are DONE with the old system. ?????

Ok. So... finally got to finish this precious book. And to be honest, I loved it. I've always been curious about witches and I didn't know where to start... or what to believe. I gave this book a try and was so worth it. It was easy to read and you could sense the passion behind all the words (that's what I liked most). For me this is a pick.
