Regency Buck | Georgette Heyer

Celebrate the 80th birthday of Regency Romance with great books from Sourcebooks Casablanca! An altogether unsatisfactory arrangement After their father's death, Miss Judith Taverner and her brother Peregrine travel to London to meet their guardian, Lord Worth, expecting an elderly gentleman. To their surprise and utter disgust, their guardian is not much older than they are, doesn't want the office of guardian any more than they want him, and is determined to thwart all their interests and return them to the country. With altogether too many complications But when Miss Taverner and Peregrine begin to move in the highest social circles, Lord Worth cannot help but entangle himself with his adventuresome wards... What Reviewers Say About Regency Buck: "Clever!" Library Journal "Georgette Heyer is unbeatable." Sunday Telegraph "Light and frothy, in the vein of the author's other Regency novels, this follows the fortunes of Miss Judith Taverner and her brother, Sir Peregrine. A good introduction to Heyer's period stories..." The Booklist "Reading Georgette Heyer is the next best thing to reading Jane Austen." Publishers Weekly What Readers Say About Regency Buck: "A writer of great wit and style... I've read her books to ragged shreds" Katie Fenton, Daily Telegraph "The conversation sparkles, the characters are real, and the descriptions stand before you. Can't miss it." "It makes you believe in love all over again." "Wonderful characters, elegant, witty writing, perfect period detail, and rapturously romantic. Georgette Heyer achieves what the rest of us only aspire too." Katie Fforde "Wholly captivating!" "I have read all of Georgette Heyer's books, and Regency Buck remains my favorite-after a few dozen readings! The mysterious plot, the wonderful dialogue, the splendid Regency settings, the chemistry between the impulsive heroine and the sardonic hero-all these add up to a Regency masterpiece and the ultimate rainy night comfort read!" "Georgette Heyer has no equal when it comes to that wonderful brand of Regency fun and laughter. Her research is so true to that age I feel as though I am riding in Hyde Park with the characters, or on the battlefield at Waterloo, Regency Buck lead me to read An Infamous Army and many of her other wonderful books."

I finished my second book of the month yesterday. I was actually supposed to read it in October for #LMPBC but I just didn't quite get there!! I know I have read this one back in the mists of time, but couldn't remember anything!! Heyer actually did keep me guessing as to which fellow was the villain. Another delightful romp by one of my favorite authors.

@mabell @Chrissyreadit @julieclair

mabell You‘re right about the villain! You *knew* of course it couldn‘t be Worth, but she did a good job of making situations seeming compromising and planting doubts! 2y
Chrissyreadit @TheAromaofBooks @mabell yes- really like how I was not quite sure… 2y

julieclair @TheAromaofBooks @mabell @Chrissyreadit Yes! I loved how she kept us guessing. A fun romp indeed. 2y
Librarybelle Hooray!! 2y
KristiAhlers I‘ve got to read her. As a romance author/reader it feels extremely dirty and wrong that I haven‘t yet. 2y
TheAromaofBooks @KristiAhlers - I was well into my 20s before I discovered Heyer, so there are still several of her books I haven't read yet. She has her ups and downs, but most of her books are just so fun and relaxing with sassy-but-not-annoying heroines 😂 2y
KristiAhlers @TheAromaofBooks love it. A palette cleanser of a read! 2y

Very fun, with a plot that kept me guessing, and a satisfying ending. I loved Miss Taverner‘s feistiness, even though it frequently gets her into trouble! Another enjoyable read for #LMPBC, Round 15, #GroupL . Great pick, @mabell !

It‘s going out to you in tomorrow‘s mail, @TheAromaofBooks . 📫

@Chrissyreadit @suvata

TheAromaofBooks Yay!! I'll be on the lookout!! I've really enjoyed this round! 2y

I'm excited to jump into my next read for #LMPBC #GroupL! @Chrissyreadit the book sleeve you added is so pretty, and very thoughtful of you. I agree that it will help protect the cover.

@mabell @TheAromaofBooks @suvata

KristiAhlers I have yet to read this author. I really need to rectify that error on my part. 2y
TheAromaofBooks Oh I love the book sleeve!!! @KristiAhlers - her books are just so frivolous and fun. They are great if you are looking for something with 0% stress 😂 2y
julieclair @KristiAhlers This will be my second Georgette Heyer book. Venetia, which I read last month, was my first. I am SO happy my #LMPBC #GroupL buddies introduced me to this author. 😀 I highly encourage you to give her a try. 2y

KristiAhlers @TheAromaofBooks I totally need some of those! I‘m off tomorrow to find me a title to keep me amused this weekend! 2y
KristiAhlers @julieclair that‘s awesome. Tomorrow is book shopping day she‘s now on the list! 2y
julieclair @KristiAhlers Happy shopping! And reading! 📚🛍️📚 2y
mabell Yay! I hope you enjoy it, too! And the book sleeve is so pretty! @Chrissyreadit 2y
TheAromaofBooks @KristiAhlers - I haven't read a Heyer I didn't like, but a couple of my favorites include Cotillion and Frederica. Hope you find one you love!! 2y

Where are Heyer movie adaptions? A naive but smart headstrong female, a young, impulsive male sibling and all the people trying to make decisions for them, a mystery to who the villain is??? Also this May be my favorite Heyer but I‘m sure I‘ve said that every time I finish one. I LOVED it!

TheAromaofBooks Yay!! I'm looking forward to this one. I should get two months of Heyer next from this group, and I'm so excited!! 2y
TheAromaofBooks Speaking of which - @mabell I forgot to post, but I did mail Diary of a Provincial Lady to you yesterday!! It's coming media mail, though, so it will probably still be towards the end of the next week when it gets there. 2y
mabell Yay! I‘m so glad you liked it too! This would be a fabulous movie! 👏👏 Lots of action moments! 😄 2y

mabell @TheAromaofBooks Thanks! I‘ll keep an eye out! 2y
MamaGina I have wondered about this since reading my first Heyer several years ago. They keep making and remaking Austen adaptations while overlooking the treasure trove of material that would make for must see viewing! 🤷🏻‍♀️ 2y
LeahBergen Why WHY are there no Heyer movies?? 2y
Chrissyreadit @LeahBergen @MamaGina it‘s so much lost potential and entertainment!!!! Especially with the Bridgerton stuff- these are gold opportunities!!!!! 2y

Newly orphaned Miss Tavener and her brother, Sir Peregrine, are now under the care of their guardian, an acquaintance of their father‘s who must be quite old and disagreeable…

So much fun! Not a book to start when you can‘t sit and read it through. One situation pops up after another, and you just have to know what happens next!

It took a little longer to finish than it otherwise would because I had “help.” (Just a few more pages, Ted!!)

Chrissyreadit Can‘t wait! 😘🙌🤣 2y
julieclair Yay! You finished! Can‘t wait until it‘s my turn. 😀 2y

TheAromaofBooks Yay!!! I'm starting my book today, but it should read pretty fast!! 2y
mabell @Chrissyreadit @julieclair @TheAromaofBooks I think you‘ll all enjoy it! 😊 2y
mabell @TheAromaofBooks For you, definitely! 🤣 You are one of the most prolific readers I know! 2y
Chrissyreadit @mabell I agree prolific is exactly the right word to describe @TheAromaofBooks 😘 2y
TheAromaofBooks @mabell @Chrissyreadit - haha well thank you! I blame my mother, who taught me to read at the age of 3 😂 I've been hooked ever since!!! 2y

Seriously tempted to throw over all plans for the day to finish this! Really, I think that may be the more responsible thing to do. I thought about the story all day yesterday, so finishing it would help my productivity. Right? 😆 #LMPBC #GroupL

julieclair You should absolutely finish it! You would be too distracted to do anything else anyway. 😉 2y
mabell @julieclair Oh exactly! 😄 2y
LeahBergen Do it! 2y

Chrissyreadit Cant wait! 2y
TheAromaofBooks Her books always keep me wanting to read just one more page 😂 2y
mabell @TheAromaofBooks I thought that too - reading her books compulsively is pretty much the norm 😆 Have you read The Toll-Gate? 2y
TheAromaofBooks I don't think I've read that one, actually! 2y
mabell @TheAromaofBooks I really liked it! I mentioned it because it was one that didn‘t follow the “formula” quite as much. It was quite an adventure! 2y

Just finished listening to this interesting historical romance classic by Georgette Heyer. An heiress and her brother enter London society and become all the rage despite the concerns of their guardian. It made for a pleasant bedtime audiobook.

Mehso-so

My third book finished during #readathon! It's very weird to have enjoyed everything in a book - the setting, the characters, etc, with the exception of the romance. But the love interest is terrible - creepy and paternalistic - and so I hated the romance. I think I'll have to read another Heyer quickly so I don't get stuck on how problematic this one is. But Beau Brummell was FABULOUS. #regency #romance #historical

Kicking off #readathon by continuing this. I adore the period details but I hate the love interest. He's such a knob. #regency #historical #romance

From my own TBR shelves:
#Regency Buck
"An insufferably arrogant dandy"

I need to move this one up the list! ?

CrowCAH No worries; great minds think alike! 😊 7y

LeahBergen But you have the newest cover! 👍🏻 7y
mabell @CrowCAH ❤️😊 7y
mabell @batsy @LeahBergen I actually found it secondhand, and thought - huh that's a cool cover. Oh it's a Georgette Heyer!!! 7y

MamaGina I Love me some Heyer!🤓💕 7y
LauraBeth 😂😂 7y
Moray_Reads I think I may have made amis-step with my first Heyer, it just made me want to read the Scarlet Pimpernel (and I did). Is there a particular title you'd recommend? I'm not giving up yet! 7y
LeahBergen @Moray_Reads Hmm... let me think. I liked The Grand Sophy and Frederica. Many people say Venetia is their favourite but that‘s still TBR for me. I think the next one up for me is going to be 7y
LeahBergen @Moray_Reads But her stuff IS pretty light and frothy. It just might not be your cup o‘ tea. 😄 7y
Moray_Reads @LeahBergen I'll try one of those and see how that goes. I do need light and frothy sometimes, I just need to find the right thing, or silence the party of my brain that refuses to get into it! 7y

I think the Regency novels of Georgette Heyer are very much an #homage to Jane Austen (and I could have chosen them for the #palatecleanser prompt, as well). #FeistyFeb

My #riotgrams #shelfie has me in it (sorry) because I'm away from home, so I picked my bookish profile picture because it gives a good idea of the range of books I read: you can see Georgette Heyer, Jasper Fforde, some biography and history, the bottoms of Maya Angelou, some my Virago collection, Elizabeth Jane Howard, and the tops of my Peter Wimseys!

EloisaJames Our keeper shelves are not unalike! I have Georgette cheek and jowl with Lord Peter Wimsey but with PG Wodehouse in the other side! 8y
Verity @EloisaJames I've read a lot of Wodehouse and love them, but mostly from the library or on ebook. I would love paper copies but I'm not meant to be collecting any more series! Ps did you see the bbc blandings a few years back? 8y
Reviewsbylola Love it! 8y
