Beauty and the Mustache
Beauty and the Mustache: A Philosophical Romance | Penny Reid
29 posts | 53 read | 15 to read
This is a full-length novel, can be read as a standalone, and is the fourth book in the 'Knitting in the City' series. There are three things you need to know about Ashley Winston: 1) She has six brothers and they all have beards, 2) She is a reader, and 3) She knows how to knit. Former beauty queen, Ashley Winston's preferred coping strategy is escapism. She escaped her Tennessee small town, loathsome father, and six brothers eight years ago. Now she escapes life daily via her Amazon kindle one-click addiction. However, when a family tragedy forces her to return home, Ashley can't escape the notice of Drew Runous-- local Game Warden, bear wrestler, philosopher, and everyone's favorite guy. Drew's irksome philosophizing in particular makes Ashley want to run for the skyscrapers, especially since he can't seem to keep his exasperating opinions-- or his soulful poetry, steadfast support, and delightful hands-- to himself. Pretty soon the girl who wanted nothing more than the escape of the big city finds she's lost her heart in small town Tennessee.

Are ya tired of me saying the Winston books are cute, adorable and a level of happiness I‘m seriously appreciating lately? Because here‘s another one! How can one author keep the level of laugh out loud snorts equal across so many books? I can‘t get enough!! This wasn‘t really a review, more my non-stop feels 🤣 but that‘s how I feel about these books.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Onto the very beginning of the Winston series (book 0) and the little sister! I‘ve also learned I‘m slightly obsessed with audiobooks read by individuals with a Southern accent. ❤️ #currentlylistening

I love Penny Reid!

I loved Drew from the minute he was on the page and his early confusion of Ash's name sold me that he had no idea what he just got himself into and that just made me add him to my list of fictional boyfriends.

This book did exactly what I needed it to do, get me out of the mindset of one book, and ready to start the next. Sometimes you need a leisurely read.

I really like this #romantsy series—and here‘s the first, on sale! The books constantly poke fun at themselves and the genre in general—hero named Drew RUNIUS?? Fun! And funny! Which we need these days.

CaramelLunacy I have just been listening to back episodes of the Heaving Bosoms podcast and they have been raving about this one! Will have to take a look. 7y
DivineDiana Thank you! Got it! 7y
sarahs.thoughts.on.books I wasn‘t sure how I would like this book when I first picked it up, but i‘m a completionist, and it's also part of her knitting in the city series. Now, I am "patiently" waiting for the other books in the Bearded Brothers series. 6y

EloisaJames @essayareayaitch I really like the series—even more than the knitting series! A bit less fantastical. A bit. I 💜 Cletus 6y
sarahs.thoughts.on.books @EloisaJames YES. I'm really excited about the mystery series that will involve Cletus (A preview/excerpt was in Cocky Tales) 6y

Mehso-so

I'm going to try more Penny Reid maybe? This one was not for me. Too much going on, and just super cheesy. Meh.

KateFulfordAuthor If you would like something “meatier”, with a quirky narrative and well developed characters, may I recommend my debut to you? 7y

I read this book when I want to feel grief, melancholy, and a sweeping, all encompassing romance. This book is an interesting take on reconnecting with family through a loss and rediscovering how life changes even when you are not there.

It's an open secret that I love Penny Reid's books. They are #? LOL-Funny, #quoteable and not "far-fetchedly" romantic, but kinda real.

This quote above could be called a #classicscare - I mean, waking up being stared at by seven bearded men ??

That moment when you realize you are older than the character who has seven grown kids. 😱😳👀 #currentlyreading #romantsy

julesG You didn't start having kids at 16/17, or did you? Apart from that, keep in mind: You're only as old as you feel. 7y
Christy2318 @julesG Thankfully no! The 12 year old keeps me young. 😂 7y

I needed something light and fluffy last night after a long day at work. The first chapter had me rolling my eyes pretty hard, but I got sucked in and ended up loving it. I'm sort of regretting the decision to stay up and finish it, as I'm struggling to be a peppy enthusiastic book pimp today... #librariansoflitsy #librarianproblems

I had way too much fun reading this book! It made it as one of my fave reads for this year ? Loved the Southern-ness of the whole read. Although a lil miffed Drew was from A&M ? "Oh bless his heart" (I'm a Longhorn). Enjoyed it so much that I had to recommend it to my sister (who is an Aggie ?) oh petty college rivalry!

Chachic YAY, WELCOME TO LITSY!!!🙌🙌🎉🎉 Hope you enjoy your stay here. I have this book on my TBR pile but haven't had a chance to read it. 7y

Christy2318 This is on my TBR. I'm not sure I can see an Aggie as a romantic interest. 🤣😧😱 7y
swishandflick Bless his/her heart is one of my favorite Southern expressions 😂 I'm originally from NC, myself. Welcome to Litsy! The addiction is real. 7y
espressodream @Christy2318 If u enjoy Penny Reid, this is a good read, love them Southern Mommas. As for the Aggie love interest...I feel you ? we just gotta "bless his heart" for that ? Would it make u feel better to know his Post-Grad was from Baylor ? 7y
espressodream @swishandflick it's one of mine too 🤣 Thanks for the warm welcome 😊 7y
Christy2318 @espressodream Yes. Bless his heart. I'm glad he wised up and went to Baylor. 7y

My new favorite Penny Reid novel. Ashley Winston hasn't spoken to her six brothers in 8 years. She comes home to Tennessee to learn her mother is terminally ill. Her first morning there, she mistakenly assaults Drew Runous, thinking he's one of her brothers. Hilarity ensues. This is textbook Penny Reid-fun, sexy, quirky, emotional, and damn near perfect. Quinn is still my fav significant other, but Drew/Ashley's story is better. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

I love Penny Reid. Every time I read a new one of her books I love the awesome female character so much, they are all my favorites, Ash included. The romance is hot and smoldery. Drew is a hard one to understand but he is endearing. This definitely got me interested to read the Winston Brothers series! #readromance #readwomen
