Holes (Anniversary) | Louis Sachar

10th Anniversary EditionLouis Sachar received great recognition for his groundbreaking story of Stanley Yelnats - a boy with a history of bad luck. As School Library Journal predicted in their starred review of the book when it was first published, "Kids will love Holes." A decade later, the book is still quenching young readers' thirst for a gripping story about a far-reaching family curse, friendship, adventure, endurance, and, finally, a generous helping of good karma. Celebrate with this special 10th Anniversary Edition, which includes portraits of the author as a little brother (by his big brother), as a husband (by his wife), and as a father (by his daughter), along with photos and Louis Sachar's 1999 Newbery acceptance speech. Vladimir Radunsky, who created the original iconoclastic cover illustration, has made new art from the familiar images. Wrapped in an acetate jacket, this edition is an appealing package that will be equally welcome in public, school, or home libraries. Holes is a 1998 New York Times Book Review Notable Children's Book of the Year and the winner of the 1998 National Book Award for Young People's Literature, the 1999 Boston Globe - Horn Book Award for Fiction and the 1999 Newbery Medal.

Stanley Yelnats is falsely convicted of stealing a celebrity baseball player's sneakers. He is sent to a reformatory where the inmates are forced to dig holes in a brutally hot desert. Intertwined with Stanley's story are stories of his ancestors.

I found the first part of this rather meh, but the second and third parts were more interesting and I ended up rooting for Stanley and Zero as the fates turned towards them rather than against them.

It‘s not that I would want this kind of summer, but I remember reading this in the middle of winter during school when I was a kid and just feeling the heat and the sweat.

Which reminds me, I need to read this with my nibling soon!

Probably my favorite adaptation! Kept the spirit of the book, but adapted some things to take advantage of the medium!

And I actually just watched this with my nibling a couple days ago and they loved it!

#SundayFunday Stay safe and warm today, we‘re getting a lot of snow in my neck of the woods, and don‘t forget to tag me in your posts!

There is no lake at Camp Green Lake. There once was a very large lake here, the largest lake in Texas. That was over a hundred years ago. Now it is just a dry, flat wasteland.

Of a novel called „Holes“ I actually did not expect much but I have to admit I was proven wrong. I really liked the background story with the curse. It was quite funny at some points. Now I am going to watch the movie.

I started to read „Holes“ because we have a whole pile in our school and I am trying to decide which book to read next with my 7th grade.

julesG My son read it in year 8 or 9. He didn't like it. But when has any pupil ever liked the required reading. 13mo

Summery: the story is based spin a young boy going to a summer camp for being accused of theft.what the boy didn‘t under stand was it was not no ordinary cap this camp different. And his journey began as soon as he picked up his shovel. If you like books that are adventurous and exciting you will love this book. The stories pov is in third person because all of the characters tell there on story.

MissYaremcio Thank you for the review Jeremy! I would have liked more on the summary. 5.5/6 2y

We really like the well crafted storylines and the sense of wonder. It really felt like an old fashioned story done well. Have a listen to our discussion about it on the Mind duck book podcast ep.35: http://bit.ly/3HkKV8c

Newbery Medal Winner & National Book Award Winner. Published 1998. This is one of my favorite movies and books of all time. I think it‘s a great book to learn valuable lessons from while also taking you on a fun, crazy adventure of a boy under a curse. This book would be great for older kiddos!

Holes by Louis Sachar is a classic story and a great movie... about a young man who is sent to a boot camp and struggles to accept his past and why he is there.

I loved this book when I was younger and think it would be a great read-aloud for older grades.

Holes is a Newberry Award winner

Mehso-so

This book won the National Book Award in the year of 1998 - This book is very interesting and is about an individual that is falsely accused of theft and it goes to talk about the past and present of the individuals life. Very interesting to read individually and then talk about with others.
