How to be Champion
How to be Champion: My Autobiography | Sarah Millican
38 posts | 27 read | 23 to read
'The naughtiest, helpiest, laughieoutloudiest and goodest book I've ever done reading on. Give that girl a banana!' DAWN FRENCH ***** SARAH MILLICAN'S AUTOBIOGRAPHY WILL MAKE YOU LAUGH, FEEL NORMAL AND PROBABLY SNIFF YOUR LEGGINGS. Part autobiography, part self help, part confession, part celebration of being a common-or-garden woman, part collection of synonyms for nunny, Sarah Millican's debut book delves into her super normal life with daft stories, funny tales and proper advice on how to get past life's blips - like being good at school but not good at friends, the excitement of IBS and how to blossom post divorce. If you've ever worn glasses at the age of six, worn an off-the-shoulder gown with no confidence, been contacted by an old school bully, lived in your childhood bedroom in your thirties, been gloriously dumped in a Frankie and Benny's, cried so much you felt great, been for a romantic walk with a dog, worn leggings two days in a row even though they smelt of wee from a distance, then this is YOUR BOOK. If you haven't done those things but wish you had, THIS IS YOUR BOOK. If you just want to laugh on a train/sofa/toilet or under your desk at work, THIS IS YOUR BOOK. 'Of course Sarah Millican's book will make you laugh out loud, but there are moments where she will touch you deeply. The dirty bitch.' KATHY BURKE

I loved this book. I laughed out loud and got some pretty good life advise. And now have a new podcast to listen to.

The ever delightful Sara Millican decided to cheer us all up in these times of Quarantine, masks and washing our f@#k$*g hands by reading aloud from her book each day in 94 installments on social media. Each chapter was a laugh a minute and her honesty was refreshing as she recounted her childhood angst and yes, even her favourite cake recipe. I am a fan and I enjoyed this fresh narration because she is so darn funny. Give it a go, it‘s brilliant!

Moonprismpower I enjoy her comedy and her voice, she sounds funny and a bit crazy 😂 4y
wanderinglynn She‘s so funny! 😂 4y

Is anyone else listening and watching Sara Millican reading her book on Instagram? It‘s a fun listen each day.

Patchshank I didn't know she was doing a reading. I love her. I have that book, but haven't had the chance to read it. Thanks for sharing. 5y

Went to see Sarah Millican last night. So funny. Now I need to read her book!!

We are part way through an epic week of entertainment. Last Thursday was a foodie thing at the markets, Friday was Phil Collins, Saturday a 50th party, last might Sarah Millican and tonight and tomorrow night Keith Urban

When I was in London a couple of years ago, I happen to catch one of Sarah Millican‘s stand-up special on BBC. It was hysterical. I‘m always looking for ways to get her work here, and was thrilled to find her book.

quietjenn I love her! 6y

The perils of synonyms 😂

RidgewayGirl My son Max when he was 12, told me that he planned to be very gregarious to impress his new English teacher. He thought it meant paying attention. 6y
rabbitprincess @RidgewayGirl Ha! It is funny how a potential meaning suggests itself for a word before you find out what it actually means. 6y

The self-help book I didn't know I needed (but ended up really needing)!

If you are a fan of Sarah then this is a must-read. Her comedy and personality transfer well over to paper and her words of wisdom (based on her own experiences) are relatable and helpful.

What a gorgeous book! Funny, charming and like a big hug (and Sarah‘s good at those, she says!). She is a funny lady and very honest, she doesn‘t sugar coat her stories! This was like a good chat over a cuppa and it ends with what sounds like a great banana bread recipe, what‘s not to like?

This was the perfect book to read whilst digesting all the Christmas and New Year food. An autobiography with a self-help twist Sarah Millican offers her views on education, careers and relationships. Her chapters on friendship and family were particularly lovely!

Three new books picked up from the Library yesterday. I cannot wait to read them!

How To Be A Champion - I saw Sarah do a talk about this book and she read a few passages out and so I know I am going to enjoy reading this one. It sounds like it could be both funny and helpful which is great!

Moxie - Feminism, strong girls, kickass reviews - need I say more?!?!

Practical Magic - I have never read it! So when I saw it, I knew I must rectify that!

Just listened to the bit where she talks about working in WH Smith and they used to play #YouOughtaKnow in the music department, watch customers' bemused reaction to the line "would she go down on you in a theatre?", then sprint across the shop to turn it off before the "are you thinking of me when you fuck her?" line. Loving it so far.
#rocktober @Cinfhen @BarbaraBB

BarbaraBB Ha ha great scene! 7y
arlenefinnigan @BarbaraBB she also points out that 'theatre' is what they call cinemas in America/Canada, so it's not about giving someone a blowjob during a performance of Hamlet. "Is this a dagger I see before me....?" ? 7y
Cinfhen Great song @BarbaraBB hahaha @arlenefinnigan 🤣😂🤣 7y

BarbaraBB Really 😂? I never noticed! Great lyrics 7y
Leniverse Ah, of course. Movie theatre! I'm a bit disappointed now. 😂 It seems more rock n' roll to perform fellatio during a stage play. She's probably singing about a drive-in movie theatre at that! 😏Americans seem to always be doing it (and everything else) in their cars. Not sure if that goes for Canadians though. 7y
laurieluna This is on my Christmas wishlist, she's my favourite comedian and a local lass! I have no doubts that this will be hilarious. 7y

LauraBrook Oh, I like her! #stacked 7y
arlenefinnigan @LauraBrook she was talking about it on the Standard Issue podcast and saying how, when she was going through her divorce, she changed her ex husband's name in her phone to The Arse. "And you can change it to anything you like: 'I Wish He Was Dead', 'Cunt', 'Do Not Resuscitate'...." ? 7y
LauraBrook @arlenefinnigan Hah, that‘s so hilarious! Now I really need to get my hands on this. 7y
