Natural Disaster
Natural Disaster | Ginger Zee
ABC News chief meteorologist Ginger Zee pulls back the curtain on her life in Natural Disaster. Ginger grew up in small-town Michigan where she developed an obsession with weather as a young girl. Ginger opens up about her lifelong battle with crippling depression, her romances that range from misguided to dangerous, and her tumultuous professional path. This cyclone of stories may sound familiar to someit's just that Ginger's personal tempests happened while she was covering some of the most devastating storms in recent history, including a ferocious tornado that killed a legend in the meteorology field. This book is for all the mistake makers who have learned to forgive others and themselveseven in the aftermath of man-made, or in this case Zee-made, disasters. It's a story that every young woman should read, a story about finding love and finding it in yourself. Beloved by Good Morning America's audience, Ginger is a daily presence for millions. Zee's gained fame for her social media presence which is as unfiltered as Natural Disasterfrom baby barf to doggy doo-doo. She's shattered the glass ceiling for women in meteorology, but admits here first, she's the one natural disaster she couldn't have forecast.

I have watched Good Morning America for years and I like to read memoirs. Ginger Zee writes a story about how she became interested in meteorology and her climb to ABC news. I enjoyed reading it and I think it would be especially good for a young girl who may be interested in science but isn‘t sure if she could succeed in it as a career.

I bought the tagged book on impulse a couple of years ago, and finally made time to read it. It‘s fulfilling my last #Nonfiction2019 prompt, which is a book that‘s been on my TBR for over 1 year. I love reading nonfiction and this challenge helped me keep those types of books in my regular reading rotation. Thanks @Riveted_Reader_Melissa for organizing this!

Riveted_Reader_Melissa Great job! 🎉. And You are so welcome! I‘m so glad you enjoyed the challenge and found it motivating for your reading in a good way, and not overwhelming. Feel free to join us again next year if you‘re interested. 4y
MallenNC @Riveted_Reader_Melissa I have saved a screenshot of the 2020 card! I don‘t know if I‘ll be able to finish the whole card but I‘ll try. 4y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @MallenNC You really only need Bingo for the challenge, so only 5 books... do whatever works for you. 4y

Like a lot of memoirs, I think if you like the author you will like the book. I watch Ginger on Good Morning America, and enjoyed reading her story. She‘s dealt with a lot in her life, and it reminded me that what you see on TV isn‘t the full person. She tells her story with humor and honesty. I love how much she loves weather. I bought this on impulse a couple of years ago, and finally made time to read.

JenReadsAlot I listened to this and enjoyed it! 4y

What a fantastic book! I really enjoyed reading Ginger's story. I first watched Ginger zee on our local channel, she grew up in the area and it was great to see her love of the area and her passion for science and weather. When she moved on, eventually ending up on GMA, it was awesome to see her once again. Her talent is endless, her energy amazing, and her love of West Michigan still shows! What surprised me was... (More in comments)

TheHeartlandBookFairy What surprised me was learning of the many struggles Ginger has dealt with; she never once showed any sign of this on air! Her strength is just as inspiring as her vulnerability is touching, and her bravery and sharing her story is to be applauded! I loved this book ☺️ 4y

This has been on my TBR list since before it came out! A couple of months ago, it was donated to my little free library and as a steward, I took steward liberties and confiscated it temporarily. I'm just getting around to reading it now and I am loving it! No worries, it will be shared in the library very soon lol 😅😁👍

This is between a pick and a so-so. Ultimately I leaned toward pick, because while this book is not for me, I could see how it would be inspirational and comforting for other people suffering from depression and/or anorexia. Ginger has dealt with a lot, and overcome a lot to get to where she is today, and I commend her for her hard work.

I loved Ginger even before I read this, but now, I love - and admire her - even more. She tells her story with aplomb; she is graceful, self-deprecating, & so wildly honest about her battle with depression, & her tendencies toward being a “natural disaster.” I saw a lot of myself in her story; it‘s just really comforting to know that it doesn‘t have to be a lonely battle, & that it‘s possible to sparkle in spite of it. #naturaldisaster #gingerzee

I‘m seeing so much of myself in these pages already, and I‘m only one chapter in; a people-pleaser who avoids confrontation and tends to neglect herself in favor of taking care of others, and lets everything bottle up inside? It‘s me. Thank you already, Ginger, for this. #naturaldisaster #gingerzee

GMA is my favorite of the morning news shows, and has been for a long time. I‘m looking forward to reading Ginger‘s story, for lots of reasons. Chief among them is that I love her, second of which is that I was diagnosed with depression and anxiety earlier this year, and have been dealing with that; it‘s comforting to read others‘ tales about doing the same. #naturaldisaster #gingerzee #depressionawareness #mentalhealthawareness #endthestigma

I have been an ABC News loyalist pretty much since childhood. I have read and enjoyed several memoirs by the network‘s journalists and while I‘ve always liked Ginger Zee, I wasn‘t intending to pick this up. Until she posted this first page on Instagram. It was so far from my preconceived notion of what her memoir would entail and as someone who has battled...👇🏼

MicheleinPhilly Depression and anxiety, I wanted to hear how she managed to rise to the top of her profession while doing the same. She is frank, candid, funny, relatable, and HUMAN. I am so glad that I read this. 4 ⭐️ 6y
