Zeroes | Scott Westerfeld, Margo Lanagan, Deborah Biancotti
X-Men meets Heroes when New York Times bestselling author Scott Westerfeld teams up with award-winning authors Margo Lanagan and Deborah Biancotti to create a sizzling new series filled with action and adventure.Dont call them heroes. But these six Californian teens have powers that set them apart. Take Ethan, a.k.a. Scam. Hes got a voice inside him thatll say whatever you want to hear, whether its true or not. Which is handy, except when it isntlike when the voice starts gabbing in the middle of a bank robbery. The only people who can help are the other Zeroes, who arent exactly best friends these days. Enter Nate, a.k.a. Bellwether, the groups glorious leader. After Scams SOS, he pulls the scattered Zeroes back together. But when the recue blows up in their faces, the Zeroes find themselves propelled into whirlwind encounters with ever more dangerous criminals. At the heart of the chaos they find Kelsie, who can take a crowd in the palm of her hand and tame it or let it loose as she pleases. Filled with high-stakes action and drama, Zeroes unites three powerhouse authors for the opening installment of a thrilling new series.

I dont really know what to say about this one. This was the second time I've read it so I can read the whole series, and it was definitely enjoyable. But I also found it oddly slow. the pacing in this felt weird to me like tons happened in this book but it didn't feel like a lot had happened. Maybe this is because I've just read Aurora Burning and other really faced paced epic novels, this just did not match up to other books I have read recently

Honestly- this book was not very good (for me). The book had very little action and Too. Much. Dialogue. Of course this is my opinion but very rarely was I excited to turn the page. The book does have a sort-of interesting plot but verges more on the realistic fiction side than the dystopian future side. I do want to give regard to the two action scenes that were actually exciting. For me I would rate this book a 3/10, but this is my opinion.

MrsBabki I value your opinion! I think you have great insights - I love how you think! 4y
Cfischbuch Was it just lack of energetic pacing (plot) or were the characters lacking personality (where you just don‘t feel invested in them)? 4y
reiddecillia @Cfischbuch the characters in this book were well made, but the book focused almost too much on character development, and left no room for plot development. Paired with the fact that the book is really long, it just made for a boring book. (edited) 4y

Just finished listening to the tantalizing adventures of the zeroes. It‘s actually pretty decent. It‘s a little predictable but if you‘re looking for a fun book to kill time with this one‘s not bad. 7/10 📚I‘m starting up on the next in series “Swarm” we‘ll see how it goes 🤗

I finally finished this book and I'm so in love with the characters. The pace is great, the writing is well done, and I'd flip if this became a show. All of the characters are completely relatable and complex in their own way. Loved it.

I just can‘t get over Scott Westerfeld, honestly. The way he sets up powers in this one is so refreshing in this hyped up marvel/dc era. I n e e d the third book!!

I'm not going to lie. Book 3 could be place holder or international cover. But usually BN only sells the US cover. On google I have seen an O cover but that could be fan art. I guess we'll know when it actually comes out. #coverlove #changesedition

jpmcwisemorgan I think series covers should present a cohesive look. 6y
tonyahoswalt I hate when they change cover styles in the middle of a series. Does not look right on library shelves. 6y

All caught up on the #SizzlinSummerBooks challenge! Here's my pick for #superheroes

Has anyone ever seen The UK show "Misfits" starring Robert Sheehan (Simon from the Mortal Instruments film) and Iwan Rheon (GoT's Ramsey Bolton)? Well this book is part Misfits, part X-Men, totally awesome. It tells the story of a group of feuding friends with strange powers who come together to rescue one of their own, only to find themselves in need of rescuing

MallenNC I loved Misfits! 7y
EchoLogical @MallenNC Me too! Simon was so weird but I loved his creepy, murdery self! 😂😂😂 7y
MallenNC @EchoLogical It was so weird to hate Iwan Rheon on GoT after growing to love his character on Misfits. But I got used to it. Have you ever watched Vicious? He plays a totally different, likable guy (edited) 7y

EchoLogical @MallenNC Right?! Lol. I haven't seen it but I'll keep an eye out for it. 7y
MallenNC @EchoLogical It used to show on my PBS station. It was fun, only a few short seasons. 7y
DrexEdit I loved misfits. The more superior UK version, of course! 😊 7y
EchoLogical @DrexEdit I forgot there even was a US version, probably forced it out of my memory. Lol 7y

Just a few of the books I have on my Nook that I haven't read. I always forget to read my ebooks because I feel a bigger urgency to finish my library books. I have some really good books on here too. I may try to read a few for #readathon.

RealBooks4ever That pic makes me want to leave work and go home and READ! 😍😍😍 7y

#marchintoreading #femalesuperhero Zeroes, and its sequel Swarm, has six teenagers with superhero-like powers, three of them female. They are: Kelsie, who can influence a crowd's emotion; Riley, who is blind but can see through other people's eyes; and Chizara, who can crash technology with her mind.

While teens with superpowers isn't exactly a new concept, I really enjoyed Westerfeld's take on it. Looking forward to picking up the next book in the series.

I finished this on audio last night. I liked a couple of the characters (Flicker and Anon are cute), but overall the story wasn't all that engaging and there were several annoying parts. I'm also not a fan of the narrator for this one... I don't believe I will continue the series.

jpmcwisemorgan That's a shame. I haven't read this one but I loved The Uglies series. 8y
enferauparadis Super intrigued by the fact that Amber Benson is the voice for the audio book. Was she any good?? :D 8y
LittleBowBook That's too bad! I actually didn't know this was a series. I read it and loved it! 8y
sprainedbrain @tinyhungryhippo she wasn't bad... but a bit too over the top in parts for my tastes. 8y

The book's summary on the cover while accurate, almost doesn't seem to cover the story in its main storyline. Regardless, the six POVs are all wildly unique and engaging, making the book easier to read.

It seemed to be a really great idea, but there were just too many POVs and the story really dragged for me.
