Solace Island
Solace Island | Meg Tilly
17 posts | 7 read | 9 to read
A contemporary novel with a strong suspense element from Oscar-nominated actress Meg Tilly set on a peaceful island village in the Pacific Northwest. Dumped on the eve of her wedding and looking for a quiet place to lick her emotional wounds, Maggie Harris joins her sister on Solace Island, where she hopes to recover from the stunning betrayal. At first, Maggie resists Eve's impassioned argument about relocating permanently so the sisters can open their own local bakery. What she definitely doesn't need on her road to recovery are Eve's efforts to fix her up with their mysterious and alluring neighbor, Luke Benson--even if he is incredibly handsome and desirable. Just as Maggie starts to get comfortable in her new surroundings, a car tries to run her down in the middle of the street. If it weren't for Luke's extremely quick reflexes, Maggie could have been killed, leading her to wonder just who exactly Luke Benson really is... Luke thought he'd left the violence of the high risk security world behind. But he can't stand by while Maggie's life is threatened. Luke will do anything to keep her safe--even moving Maggie and her sister into his house with its state-of-the-art security features. But with the secrets between them and an unknown threat stalking her heels, Luke will have to think fast to prove to Maggie that she can trust him with her life--and with her heart.

Finished my first read of the #MarvellousMarch readathon! Ok so I had 2 chapters left but I‘m counting it. It was so good, and there‘s 2 more in the series so I‘ll definitely be checking them out. @Andrew65

Last book read in September, 1st book in a series. I thought this book would be more a mystery but it has more romance than mystery which occurred at the end. After Maggie broke up with her fiancé days before the wedding, she and her sister went to Solace to start over. There, she experienced various murder attempts. Why? Who wants her dead? Second chance romance story. Funny and steamy scenes. Sometimes too cheesy. From okay to so-so 3.4⭐️

TheAromaofBooks I had mixed feelings about this one - I think it's because it was way more romance than I was anticipating, so I felt a little off-kilter when I was reading it! 3y
Gissy @TheAromaofBooks You are right. But I bought the other two books in an impulse action because they were on sale, very cheap😳(Story of my life). So, I will read the other two books soon just to get rid of that series. At least they are fast read. 3y
TheAromaofBooks I read the rest of the series as well (lol) and feel like they were all fine as one-off reads, but not books I wanted to read again. Once I had my head around the romance as the primary drive and the suspense as the secondary drive, I liked them better haha 3y
Gissy @TheAromaofBooks 😬probably I I will share the same opinion. 3y

She seems like a lovely person, but this book is slightly ridiculous. Characters are simultaneously over the top and all over the place. Some of the dialogue made me laugh out loud when that probably wasn‘t the intent. The audiobook narrators weren‘t great, but I have to give them credit for soldiering through the awkward steamy scenes.

The story itself was promising if not well executed, and I liked the setting and the food.

Once again I was tempted by something from my TBR backlist! Partly because of the annoying way Goodreads randomly switches between her pen name and her actress name. Anyway, it‘s a nice palate cleanser from dark stories, and I should finish it today.

I‘m still “this close” to my goal, but in any case I finished two books during #DashingDecember which was a big help.

Meanwhile, tagged book is...okay. But more on that later!

I‘m not a romantic suspense fan but this was So. Good. I had a super hard time putting it down. While I eventually got the bad guy right, I never saw the motive coming. Meg Tilly is a wonderful human and her writing reflects that. Book two just came out which I will be getting once I‘m home. Not sure where this puts me for #bookfitnesschallenge reading goal but I‘ll check tomorrow.

BookwormAHN Nice job 👏🏻 5y
Avanders I'm drooling over that water. Why not a romantic suspense fan? You like romance, you like cozies, seems like it would be a good fit? (just curious ;)) 5y
BethM @Avanders the lake is gorgeous but I spent the majority of the week in winter gear. Brrr. Right.. it would make sense that I like them. However most RS that I‘ve read hits way to close to my day job to be escapism. Good for those authors for writing realistic crime but I need something a bit less “real” if that makes sense? So generally I just avoid the genre on principle. 5y
Avanders Oh I bet!! Eagle River is the same (and it‘s one of the things I live about it 😁 Colder a lot longer than most other parts of the country!). Oooooh yeah I hear that. I like thrillers, but end up reading them pretty I frequently for the same reason I think.. totally makes sense. As a genre, i avoid true crime for that reason. Thrillers are somewhere in between I think... 5y

2.5☆ While I did enjoy reading this book, I also found it hard to read at times. Maggie seemed a prude then she didn't.(sexual) This was a romance while when I read the synopsis I thought it had more suspense/mystery to it (probably less than 100/294 pages). I thought the attempted murder was going to be more prominent. I spent the first half of the book wondering if the synopsis was confused with another book. -ARC for honest review

Haven't gotten finished with this like I'd planned this weekend. Maybe I'll stay up late with it?! Also planned on finishing The Witch of Blackbird Pond as well but only about 50 pages in.

Did you end up completing your reading goals this weekend?
