My travel card cracked on the w/e while I was on a 🍷 tour. I was too busy yesterday to pick a new 1 up so I got up early to get to the newsagent before work today so I could buy 1. I was super organised & had time to visit a little free library before I jumped on the tram. I scored these 📚 which are perfect for school. Only 2 more get ups until I am on holiday for 2 weeks & travelling up the coast to a warmer climate for my gran‘s 90th b‘day.

dabbe LOVED Dicey's Song! Read it with my middle school students back in the day. 😊 1y

Thank you, @PuddleJumper , for this distraction today! I‘m still making good progress on finishing my last 2 June #roll100 titles, but here‘s what I have to look forward to in July:
#13 is The Pirates! In an Adventure with Scientists
#44 is Forrest Gump
#75 is The Cheese Monkeys

PuddleJumper Brilliant! 2y

Just finished this gem! The sequel to Homecoming, Dicey‘s Sing continues the story of the Tillerman family in a realistic, engaging way.

BoleyBooks I have this one on my shelf. It was assigned reading for my daughter years ago. I‘ll push it up on my TBR list. 4y
wideeyedreader @BoleyBooks It‘s a good read! I do recommend reading Homecoming first, however. The story makes more sense with the context 4y
BoleyBooks Thank you for the recommendation...good to know 😊 4y

Day 7 #7books7days Books that made an impression

My well loved copy of Dicey‘s Song. My grandma gave this to me when I was around 12, so I‘ve had this for nearly 35 years.

This was fun and I could keep going for at least 7 more. Some others I‘ve loved-Anne of Green Gables, Calling Me Home, Seeking Allah, Finding Jesus, the Bible, The Hiding Place, Half the Sky, The Big Truck that Went By...

Third book complete for #JumpStart2020, a reread of an old favorite. I need to continue the series, as I‘ve only ever read the first two, so I hope this time it‘ll take.

@Lizpixie @Clwojick

DocBrown This is a Newbery Winner yes? I never got to this one. 5y
ravenlee @mdhughes72 it is a winner. It‘s the second book in the Tillerman Cycle, following Homecoming. It might stand alone but makes much more sense after the first book. I haven‘t read the rest of the series yet. 5y
DocBrown I knew there was a reason I skipped over it! When my kids were little we worked through A LOT of the Newbery books. I miss those days. 5y

4/5⭐ Still love this family and their journey through the challenges they face while striving to remain true to each other. It's especially nice to see the book tackle how the world reacts to various differences: in learning ability, body weight, race, finances, etc.

I'm working on reading all of the Newbery winners backwards. This one is #nextup, the winner from 1983. #fallintobooks

@RealLifeReading

raeintheworld I remember this one from 8th grade! 7y
Readerann Great goal! I just finished my Read-the-Newberys project in the spring. It took me 6 years! 7y
smilingshelves @raeintheworld I'm surprised this isn't one I read in middle school. I'm looking forward to it! 7y
smilingshelves @Readerann That's awesome! What an accomplishment. It's going to take me more than six years I'm sure, but I'll get there eventually! 7y

This book always makes me cry. It is so very lovely and I think illustrates beautifully the joy and the struggle of growing up and finding your place, your people, and yourself in the world.

Perhaps I've crossed into a nit-picking dork reader zone, but there is a missing quotation mark here, AND a character's name is spelled 2 different ways throughout the book, AND there's no copyright page (what? You don't read the copyright page?).

jess_mccoy And one MORE thing: I have the option on my kindle turned on to see what passages other people have highlighted, and they do not highlight the things *I* think are important. COMEON READERS 8y
jess_mccoy (I have had 2 glasses of wine and I like to think that this is a place where I can let me reader-quirks out, Litsy friends) 8y
Suet624 I completely understand. 8y
