All the Flowers in Paris
All the Flowers in Paris | Sarah Jio
22 posts | 22 read | 33 to read
Two women are connected across time by the city of Paris, a mysterious journal, and shocking secrets, sweeping from World War II to the present--for readers of Sarah's Key. When Caroline wakes up in a Paris hospital with no memory of her past, she's confused to learn that she's lived a sad, reclusive life for years in a sprawling apartment on the Seine. Slowly regaining vague memories of a man and young child, she vows to piece her life back together--though she can't help but feel she may be in danger. A budding friendship with the chef of a charming nearby restaurant takes her mind off of her foggy past, as does a startling mystery from decades prior... In Nazi-occupied Paris, young widow Celine lives a quiet life with her father, the local florist, and her daughter, Cosi. When a ruthless German officer discovers the family's Jewish ancestry, he blackmails Celine, forcing her to become his mistress in exchange for the others' safety. The trio plans an escape, but their mission goes horribly awry and Celine's beloved father and daughter are sent away to a cruel fate. Initially distraught, Celine fears the worst. Yet she soon discovers that Cosi has snuck away and followed her into captivity. More motivated than ever, Celine must now fight to hide and protect the person she loves most. Parallel timelines intersect when Caroline discovers Celine's diary tucked away in a closet, and it is revealed that the walls of her apartment harbor dark secrets. With the help of a local student from the Sorbonne, she realizes that she may have more in common with Celine than she could ever imagine.

Told in dual timelines that kept my interest. The two main characters sometimes were a little too naïve and shallow, but story is pretty interesting.
I had some issues with details (like did they really could afford to buy flowers just for beauty during war? etc.)

All the Flowers in Paris was both heartwarming and heartbreaking

A wonderfully written book. It had some historical context in it that tied into the plot. It wasn‘t a quick read and I enjoyed it all the way through.

A woman who can‘t remember her life in modern Paris has her story intermingle with a wwii Paris saga.

All the Flowers in Paris is a Story of crushing heartbreak, of abject depravity but it is also a story of healing and hoped, as Celine comes to learn of Celine and Crissy‘s story and comes to realize fate had brought her into Crissy‘s path, before she knew who she was.

This was such a good story. Although this is not my go to genre, Sarah Jio's books are always such a pleasure to read.

🌺 5 bright shiny stars! All the Flowers in Paris is an amazing, heartbreaking, and redemptive story that comes around full circle. Family, survival, incredible sacrifices.. I loved this story.. it has all the intrigue and mystery that made this unputdownable for me. Sarah Jio‘s beautifully written words had me reaching for the Kleenex. I can‘t recommend it enough. Emotional, heartbreaking, and hopeful. When I started this, I didn‘t think it was what I needed to be reading at that moment but I‘m so glad I pushed through. The two story lines really sucked me in and I could not put this book down. If you enjoy historical fiction about WW2, then this is for you. #historicalfiction #paris #netgalley

This is a beautifully written novel. I literally could not put it down. Many books take me days even weeks to read...I read this in two days. Both the main characters Caroline and Celine were such wonderful characters to follow. You could feel their love, passion, heartache, confusion and fears come across the pages so clearly. I just started this book today and I‘m already over half way through it! (And I‘m typically a slow slow reader, especially this year for some reason, most likely life/depression/life with busy kids/full time job) This book has captured my heart and has me captivated by these two women decades apart. I can‘t wait to see what happens in the last half!
