I did not love this one. Pretty graphic in some spots and not a lot of love. There were some pretty humorous moments which kept this as a so so. #littensloveromance @StayCurious

A soft pick for me, I didn't find this to be one of Roberts's best. The characters were rather tropey, and I was a bit surprised to find so many factual inaccuracies from an author who is usually pretty well-researched. (No one rides yearlings?! Hens don't just sit around on their eggs after they lay them and rarely go broody? Horses don't usually just stand around and let you shoot attacking bears - they run away??) Willa got on my nerves SO ⬇

TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) much. But I still found a lot of warmth and humor in this one. I absolutely loved Adam and Lilly together, and enjoyed the pacing of the mystery aspect. I probably won't reread this one, but it was a good one-off nonetheless.

Thanks for hosting @StayCurious !!!

Clare-Dragonfly OK—so what does “go broody” mean? I thought it was “that thing hens do where they sit on eggs” so clearly my education on this point is lacking 😂 7mo
TheAromaofBooks @Clare-Dragonfly - So normally a chicken just lays her egg and moves on with her life. They don't sit on them or even care about them UNLESS a hen goes broody, in which case she will sit on a nest and try to hatch the eggs. She usually will be productive/peck at you if that's the case, but most hens only go broody once a year, and many breeds are specifically bred to reduce a hen's likelihood of going broody at all because she doesn't lay eggs ⬇ 7mo
See All 11 Comments
TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) if she is sitting on them. So the whole egg-collecting scene where she has to reach underneath a bunch of grumpy chickens to get all the eggs just isn't really what happens, like maybe a couple hens are still in there in the middle of egg-laying for the day, but it's unlikely that she has a bunch of brooders to contend with 😂 I have 19 hens (a bunch of different breeds), only one went broody this entire year. 7mo
TheAromaofBooks @Clare-Dragonfly - It wasn't really THAT horrible of writing, it just... wasn't right 😆 The scene with the yearling horse was the most ridiculous - like that's genuinely pretty basic research that you don't ride horses when they are only a year old. 7mo
Clare-Dragonfly So normally hens know their eggs are not going to hatch, but sometimes they decide they‘re going to have chicks and actually try to hatch the eggs, and that‘s going broody? That makes sense—chickens may not be very bright but they probably know if there‘s no rooster around their eggs aren‘t fertilized! And I‘ve definitely read things with people hunting all around the fields for the eggs the hens have left lying around. 7mo
TheAromaofBooks @Clare-Dragonfly - Wellll you can't give the hens TOO much credit 😂 They don't seem to have any connection between whether the eggs are viable and their desire to try and hatch them. Sometimes they just decide to go broody and start setting!! Once they do, they'll sit on anything (which is why chickens are sometimes used to hatch ducks or turkeys). I gave my broody hen four eggs from four different chickens. They will even sit on absolutely ⬇ 7mo
TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) nothing! Just an empty nest! Eventually they either snap out of it (usually 3-4 weeks) or what they are sitting on actually hatches. But during that time they don't lay eggs, and actually hardly eat or drink anything. She'll just sit there with a dreamy look on her face making little clucky sounds haha Which is why many breeds have been purposefully bred to eliminate the tendency towards broodiness (leghorns, the main commercial egg ⬇ 7mo
TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) producers, almost never go broody). And now I'm getting very rambly about chickens, but I've raised them all my life and actually love them a lot haha 7mo
Clare-Dragonfly They don‘t eat or drink when they‘re broody?! That sounds evolutionarily non-optimal 😂 7mo
TheAromaofBooks @Clare-Dragonfly - I'd say “evolutionary non-optimal“ is probably an overall solid description of chickens 😂 They only eat/drink enough to basically just stay alive. In fairness, though, they are expending almost no energy, as they just sit and stare into space all day. Low food intake means they spend less time off their nest and also don't soil the nest. So it kind of makes sense, but they do lose a lot of weight during that time!! 7mo

#LittensLoveRomance Ch.29-end What did everyone think of the big reveal? Most of you guessed the reason but did you have your man right? I thought the climax of the story was well done and I liked that our three romances worked out in true HEA style. Definitely a darker book at times but it had a lot of heart and sentiment as well. If you do want to make mention of the killer below, make sure to hit the spoiler button in case someone is behind. 🤠

julieclair I was clueless right up to the big reveal. And yes, a very satisfying ending! 7mo
Read4life I enjoyed this one. So happy #LittensLoveRomance is back! Thanks, Renee. 7mo

#LittensLoveRomance Ch.27-28: the killer is closer than ever before - watching the sisters and now even communicating with them with a note and with blood on a tombstone. But the wedding goes on and Lily and Adam have even happier news👶. Willa is starting to acknowledge her own deep feelings for Ben just as he is for her. But can they truly be happy with this crazed killer on their doorstep? What will it take for him to stop?

julieclair I loved the wedding scene! I felt like I was right there. I have really become fond of these characters. I can't imagine that any of them are the killer. 😕 7mo
willaful I'm pretty sure @TheAromaofBooks guessed correctly, though I'm still not sure who it is. Between 2 people, I think. 7mo
LiseWorks It's Billy. I bet you it's him. He is a bastard from a whore, and that's why he kills them. A red head. We don't see him as an important character, but with the conversation Willa has with him, I think it's him. His father never acknowledged him to the rest of the family but secretly gave him a knife. Billy is the sisters half-brother. 7mo

#LittensLoveRomance Ch.25-26: First, Lily has a bit of a tantrum and the wedding is off. She‘s tired of being pampered and gently pushed aside - and she has a point. Then once she and Adam understand each other, the wedding is back on. There‘s still a threat hanging over the ranch, but nothing will spoil Adam and Lily‘s big day. At least we hope not.

LiseWorks Who can the killer be? It's someone at Willa' s ranch I'm sure. Someone who loves Lily. I live Tess' Mom. 7mo
TheAromaofBooks I really enjoyed how Lilly and Adam were able to work things out once they began communicating, and how Lilly realized that Adam is also working through some PTSD of his own from the entire Jesse terror. I have to admit - I couldn't wait to find out who the bad guy is, so I finished this one last night!! 😂 7mo

#LittensLoveRomance: Ch.23-24: things escalate quickly when Jesse makes his move and steals Lily away to the high country in a blizzard. But in a crazy turn of events, our killer gets to Jesse and in a bizarre way saves Lily. So who is haunting the ranch and what are his motives?

willaful So why is the killer so tender towards Lily? Could it be Bess?! 😂 7mo
LiseWorks I was so surprised that the killer killed Jess, and not Lily. He is part of the crew, but which crew? What a twist! 7mo

TheAromaofBooks I was genuinely shocked with Jesse got killed!!! My latest theory is that Jack Mercy had an unacknowledged son “on the wrong side of the blanket“ who is somehow angling to get the girls off the ranch?? 7mo
willaful @TheAromaofBooks That seems quite possible, given Jack's character.

Or maybe... it's Jack himself! Dum dum dum!

Honestly, I have no idea. Most of the minor characters have made no impression on me.

LiseWorks I am finally caught up! Well, it's about time with Willa and Ben. I love that Willa and Tess can confess stuff to each other. I think Jessie is following Lily, and she did see him. I think Willa will recognize Jessie as the guy she met when she slid on the road if she ever sees the photo. 7mo

#LittensLoveRomance Ch.17-18: The girls, Tess and Lily are getting into the swing of things on the ranch but - the killer strikes again 💔and the weight of it all is beating Will down. Her sisters drag her to a spa to take their minds off things and bonding ensues.

Kshakal I am loving the relationship between the sisters! 7mo
TheAromaofBooks I'm not sure how well researched the section was about calving. I feel like Roberts may have been incorrect in her whole thing about the necessity of pulling calves, as generally cows get along just fine without help. I've never heard of this having to be done on a mass scale & I've also never heard of growth hormones changing the size of unborn calves. That whole scene just seemed really unrealistic. But at least it brought the sisters together😂 7mo
julieclair I did enjoy the spa scenes! 7mo
LiseWorks I was wondering about the calves myself. I was so saddened by the fact that they lost some toothed killer. I don't see why he is doing this. What does getting back at Lily have to do with all the animals he is killing? Loved the fight scene. Maybe this will open Will's eyes to the fact that Tess is strong and stubborn and more like her in character. 7mo

#LittensLoveRomance Ch.13-14: the sisters are bonding and romances are budding. They have a New Year‘s Eve party - definitely not something that would have been done had Jack Mercy still been alive. Unfortunately it comes to a crashing halt when another body is found. They really can‘t get a break. Willa blames herself and is wearing herself thin. The men feel it might be Lilly‘s ex and Adam and she finally talk about her past.

julieclair I think it‘s a good thing that she finally talked with Adam about her past. It is a step forward in their relationship, and in her own healing. But oh my goodness, that murder! Absolutely gut wrenching. 7mo

willaful @julieclair Perhaps they will band together as sisters and save each other! 7mo
TheAromaofBooks Will still driving me a little crazy! I understand that it's difficult to talk with her sisters, but at the same time, it seems like the best way to make sure that the ranch stays in the family is by reaching out to them and helping them learn to love it, instead of constantly pushing them away and going around in a snit! 7mo

#LittensLoveRomance Hey all, I should have led with this at the beginning of the month but honestly it‘s been 15 years since I‘ve read this book and I didn‘t think. For that I apologize. From now on I will do better research on our chosen book to make sure we are all prepared. Ben is supportive and helps her through it and we can see the two of them getting closer. Lily and Tess decide to stay on the ranch despite the danger. Also, I‘m sorry for the graphic nature of the killings: I read a lot of romantic suspense and so maybe I‘m a bit desensitized. I didn‘t ⬇️

StayCurious remember the killings being so detailed. If anyone wants to bail I completely understand but I do find the deeper story is really good. 7mo

#LittensLoveRomance Ch:5-6: The ranch, and Willa, have a problem on their hands. Someone‘s killing animals. How soon before that escalates? Meanwhile, Ben is thinking of getting closer to Willa, and not only for ranch business. Lilly and Adam are growing closer, and Tess hates chickens. How will she last a year? #LittensLoveRomance September read Ch.1-2: I like the beginning of this book. We meet a complex group of people, several of whom are related to each other in some way or another. Nothing brings family back together like a funeral. And nothing keeps family together like an ironclad will that says you can‘t leave the property for a year if you want your inheritance. Was Jack being mean spirited or was this his last attempt at a reunion?

LiseWorks Oh dear I have ti get this book, I forgot, I'll catch up 8mo
julieclair I think this was his way of exerting control, even from the grave. And possibly also his attempt at parenting without doing any of the work. He said he wanted his daughters to be raised “tough”. Well, the situation he has put them in will definitely require toughness to survive. If they don‘t already have it, they‘ll need to develop it quickly. 8mo

He could have tried to do that while he was alive, though. 🤷🏻‍♀️ But this will be interesting since the sisters are all so very different! 8mo
LiseWorks Got the book now. So, this man sounds like quite the character. I think maybe he wanted his daughters to have to get to know each other. Why else would he force them to stay?
