Finished it in 6 hours. Honestly, it took me longer to get into this than most of Jennifer McMahon‘s books. I love that she‘s not afraid to breach topics that should contain trigger warnings. To be honest the story was amazing. It doesn‘t contain mystical aspects like some of her other stuff but if you‘re looking for a mystery, this is for you. I went into it wanting the paranormal mystery so it wasn‘t what I was really looking for at this time.

Okay, right. My sister's xmas presents have not made it to Virginia from New York. A a yarn order from Dec 28th made it to New York from Reno in 4 days, but one I placed two weeks before that has not made it from NYC. It's a crap shoot.

I was a huge fan of McMahon‘s debut Promise Not To Tell, which I read several years ago. Two subsequent reads were just meh for me (Dismantled, The Winter People), but Island of Lost Girls, the story of a missing girl and the main character‘s disappeared childhood bestie, had me turning the pages way past my bedtime on the night before school starts properly, which is today. #bookspin @TheAromaofBooks

This book was...ok. For starters, it felt like it jumped right in, but in actuality the overall story is painfully slow. The writing was ok, but I had the ending figured out about 2/3 of the way through. The language was too explicit for my taste. I was honestly glad to be done and will be passing it on via Goodwill. I don‘t recommend this book unless you were fascinated with Donnie Darko (I hated it) and really love fast, easy mysteries.

Jennifer McMahon never fails to amaze. This is the fourth book of hers that I've read, and will not be the last. She is amazing with the twists and turns, I can never put her books down, and this was no exception. Just when I thought I had it figured, nope, plot twist. A serious page turner. This ending was just so surprising, like I never saw it coming. None of it. Complete shock and awe.

My next read. I'm such a fan of this author. I discovered her with The Night Sister, and loved it so much I went on the The Winter People, then The Invited. This is one of her earlier pieces, but I have a feeling this is gonna be another page turner. 🤓📖

I like Jennifer McMahon, but this is not her best book. The first lost girl is the protagonist's best friend who disappears during their childhood and the second is a little girl whom the now-adult protagonist witnesses being abducted at a mini-mart. The story jumps from present to past. I thought the plot was clunky overall and the ending was pretty “meh.“ However, great suspense and I love rural noir with working-class characters.

After Rhonda witnesses a kidnapping, she is reminded of her own childhood best friend who also went missing years earlier.

Burntown is amazing! Promise Not To Tell scared the hell out of me . So I just got them all! I ordered Island Of The Lost Girls from Amazon for 4$. It sounds creeeepy! Burntown has a chicken suit killer, IOTLG has a rabbit suit killer. Her books are so what Palahniuk would write if he wrote murder thriller/suspense. Just bizarre and fascinating

This is a fast, easy mystery to read. Not great literature, but I was kept guessing. I liked the slow reveal of the past story and that mystery as well, although the mystery there is very obvious to the reader. I assume that was done on purpose to help confuse the present day mystery. Or not?! Rhonda, our heroine, is a pathetic character which was a plot point I didn't love. If you are creeped out by Easter bunnies, this book will scare you!!🐰
