Poem for my 4th graders on #PoetryWednesday

The assignment was to identify the rhythm and rhyme scheme and write a nonsense stanza that fits the vibe of the poem.

Superpower_Loading I'd love to do that assignment! 8y
ValerieAndBooks So what is the scheme? It'd be fun to sit in one of your classes 😊! 8y
saresmoore I want you to teach my kids! (Read: I want to be in your class!) 8y
TobeyTheScavengerMonk @ValerieAndBooks ABCBDB Rhyme scheme. He thought he saw *4 syllables* / *6 syllables* / He looked again and found it was *6 syllables* / '*6 syllables*' he said, / '*6 syllables*!' - The kids come up with some wonderfully goofy stuff. 8y
TobeyTheScavengerMonk @saresmoore I truly appreciate the compliment. 8y

Eek, i just realized I'm a day late for the red and green challenge. I forgot to post yesterday because I was so excited about the arrival of my once upon a book club box. (see my excitement in previous post 😂)

Anyway it was easy to use this gorgeous book for a green highlight because its just soo pretty 📚😍

I NEED YOUR ADVISE LITTENS!💚 I have always 'read' my books. But I see so many people on here using audio books. So now I want to know: what makes audio books work for you? and how and where do you get your audiobooks? And book recommendations are always welcome 😉❤

Hornsby78 I get my audio books from my library. I particularly like the ones in which the author reads the book as they have insight to characters that we don't. I have a 45 minute commute to work one way so I like podcasts and audio books for that. 8y
NovelGirl82 Like @Hornsby78 I get my audiobooks from the library. I generally listen to them while I work, since I am at my desk all day. I also listen to them while I'm driving. 8y

Hornsby78 I have also listened to them while I work before. 8y
Nicohlay I get mine using the Overdrive app, which is connected through your local library, so I'm assuming that's what the other ladies meant as well. I listen while I'm at work or driving. I'll be honest though it can be hit & miss with the narrators lol some are AMAZING and others make it so bad I can't make it 10 mins and I end up just reading the actual book myself lol 8y
Spiderfelt Library, while walking my dog in the woods, cooking, cleaning and driving. The only reason I managed to get through a deep clean of my long-neglected bathroom was because I got lost in my audiobook. I've been tagging my reviews so that I can find them. Not all are good, and if I give up on an audiobook it's usually because of the narrator but some are fantastic. You just have to try a few and see whose voices resonate with you. 8y
I-read-and-eat @Hornsby78 @NovelGirl82 @Nicohlay Thanks guys for all the information! Turns out my library is more 'hip' than I thought and provides audiobooks on an app 😍 @Spiderfelt I am almost looking forward to deep cleaning my bathroom now 😂😉 8y
tricours I get mine from Audible, which has great daily deals for members, and recently Storytel, another subscription service with unlimited amount of books per month. I can't listen unless I'm doing something actively or moving (I just fall asleep), so I walk, run, knit or do chores while listening. 8y
Bookzombie I use the Overdrive app and get my audio from the library also. I typically like mysteries and thrillers on audio. Some to try are Sue Grafton's Alphabet series, Linda Castillo's Kate Burkholder series, and Michael Connelly's books. I also like memoirs on audio read by the author. I love the Overdrive app because I can speed up the pace of the reading a bit if I think it's slow. 8y
Bookzombie Oh and I listen to them any time I can't read and I'm by myself. Even in the shower! 😜 8y
Spiderfelt @I-read-and-eat cleaning is such a thankless job that I usually only clean in a fit of desperation, when the dirt is actually visible. It wouldn't be so odious if I did it when the impact was less obvious. To clarify my habits, I borrow audiobooks on cd for the car so I'm not draining my phone with Bluetooth while driving, and listen to different books downloaded to my phone from Overdrive for chores and walks. 8y
JennyWren One Word: Phil Gigante. Porn star name but OMG his voice. He reads the Fever series by Karen Marie Moning and other paranormal/historical romance books. Love'em 8y
Kitta I've been wondering about this too, buying them seems so expensive. Some on audible are $30-40! I hadn't thought about my library, I'm going to check that out. 8y
TheCanuckReader Makes long drives bearable! 8y
I-read-and-eat @tricours Storytel might be good too! Come to think of it I have seen some commercials for it. @Bookzombie I think I might start with a thriller! I better not listen to it in the shower, I will never ever get out again 😂 @JennyWren Haha his name does sound pornographic! But it is the voice that counts. 8y
Aseleener I always thought I couldn't do audiobooks bc I am a visual person and my mind wanders. But I tried it, and it did take a little getting used to, but now I love it. I don't drive much, so I listen mostly while walking for exercise. My husband uses Audible, getting books only when they are on sale. But I get them from the library, same way as Kindle books, and listen through the Overdrive app. 8y
I-read-and-eat @Aseleener I do a lot of walking so I think an audiobook will be the perfect companion for when my boyfriend is too immersed in his games to walk with me 😊 8y
Aseleener Perfect! Not going to lie; there are times the lure of listening to my book is the only thing getting me off my butt! 8y
Bookzombie @JennyWren I'm going to have to check out the series on audio. I've read the first two already. 8y
Titania Overdrive or Hoopla from the library! My hubby uses Audible, but it's too pricey for me... Especially since I still need a print book budget! 8y
Magpiegem I've just begun listening to audio books. The first two were a miss and I quit on them but I'm really enjoying the newest one and it means I don't run out of my favourite podcasts too quickly in the week. I love listening to something whilst I'm driving/walking/cleaning/feeding the baby. I use audiableon subscription which is much cheaper than buying the books normally and it's great that if you don't like a book you can just swap it for a new one 8y
tricours @Magpiegem what kind of audible subscription is that? 8y
JennyWren @Bookzombie I think he started doing the audio books with book 3 so that's good timing :) 8y
Magpiegem @tricours it's the subscription that you always hear advertised on podcasts- use our code and get 1st month free. It's about £ a month which gives you 1 credit to spend on any audio book (no matter the price) but as I said you can also just get a credit refund and get a different book even if you've listened to the whole thing! 8y
tricours @Magpiegem oh, so more or less the same as I have (but yours sounds cheaper), but I didn't know you could get a refund! How do you do that? I once bought book 4 in a series they don't have book 1 for, but never got any reply when I wrote to them about this... 8y
tricours @Magpiegem oh, just found it while trying to find out how much I pay for my subscription! 8y
Magpiegem @tricours glad you found it, it's actually really handy, it's just annoying you can't do the refunds from your phone or iPad. But I returned a couple the other day so lots of credit all of a sudden 🤗 8y
tricours @Magpiegem I'm a bit pissed your subscription is so cheap though! 😛But non-UK users are always forced to use the US site, which is only cheap for Americans I guess... 8y
I-read-and-eat @Titania @Magpiegem @tricours Thanks for all the advice guys. I had a bit of trouble focussing on the narration at first. My mind is used to keep me entertained by making up my own stories. But after a while I got into it and now I can't wait for my next commute. PS. I love how this coversation just keeps going 😉💛 8y
tricours I can't listen to "deep and thoughtful" books, I need something with a bit of suspense or action to keep me focused ? I'd stay away from classics and such if you want to get hooked on audiobooks! 8y
Magpiegem I'm listening to the atrocity files at the moment which is fast paced but strange 😄 8y

Lovely Lewis Carroll classic! I think Alice in Wonderland is such a fun, creative story and the recent movie adaptations seem just as wild and imaginative as the books. (I have to admit I haven't see Through the Looking Glass yet). Has any one else seen it? How did it compare to Alice in Wonderland?
