"...children seem to me a remarkable race. They want so much to murder so many people, and they so rarely murder anybody at all."
This book is slow going, but there are so many delightful lines in it.

Sky water! And I'm reading an appropriately titled book for a downpour. Not thrilled to have to drive in it, but I'm very happy to get precipitation. It's been a ridiculously dry rainy season.
More live music! I enjoyed reading the tagged during the quiet parts (and napping in the car between our son's two concerts...staying up late reading the night before hours of orchestral music isn't a great idea, apparently).
NYRB Classics Reading Society Aug meet-up: The Fountain Overflows
We have 3 people for today‘s discussion. May and Peter both loved the book, and gave it 4⭐️ Quoting Peter, “it‘s Little Women in much better writing.” 😄
#NYRB #NYRBClassics
2⭐️ I started this book with high expectation, but the whiny start was quite painful that I wanted to bail (I couldn‘t bail because I‘m the organizer of the book club which will be discussing this book tomorrow😅) Thankfully, it got better in the second half as it revealed interesting incidents one after another. I couldn‘t stand the Mother character as she sighed/groaned/cried/wailed so often it gave me headache from excessive eye-rollings
Slowly but surely 😅 I hope to finish this today so that I can read Black Wings before Saturday #NYRBBookclub discussion 🤞🏻
Omg it‘s so hard to get into this book 🙈 I‘m about 50 pages in, and I get the feel of Little Women & Little House on the Prairie mix, which may not be a bad thing if the tone is not as whiny as this book 😭😭😭
Has anyone read and love this? I‘m hoping for a nice hook soon 🤞🏻#NYRBClassics
Good morning ☀️ Going to start this now for NYRB Classics Reading Society in Singapore. We will meet on 25 Aug to discuss the book #NYRBClassics
My holiday buddies 🤪 #NYRBClassics #NYRB
I went to book Twitter (specifically the hosts of the Backlisted Podcast) for a recommendation on books with music as a main theme and this is what they came up with. I enjoyed this novel (a first in a series) about an out of luck family in the years before World War II, from the perspective of one of the middle daughters.

Coming soon: a Reading Envy Recommends episode on books about music!
My book haul from one of our local used shops. I was really excited to see a table of NYRB Classics - had to snag the Rebecca West!
This was a holiday flea market find (I can never say "no" to a cheap NYRB Classic). Has anyone read it?
Here's a #silhouettesoncovers book I 've been meaning to read for a few years. The other books in this series are free on Amazon at the moment! #vmc
Also, while we are talking book sales, let me highlight this one. The Fountain Overflows is one of my top 3 favorite books of ALL TIME & it is on sale on Kindle for $1.99 with both of its sequels available for free! Yes! Grab them now while you can!
This month's book club pick. Anyone read it?
