You re going to love The Bronte Plot. Debbie Macomber When Lucy s secret is unearthed, her world begins to crumble. But it may be the best thing that has ever happened to her. Lucy Alling makes a living selling rare books, often taking suspicious liberties to reach her goals. When her unorthodox methods are discovered, Lucy s secret ruins her relationship with her boss and her boyfriend, James leaving Lucy in a heap of hurt and trouble. Something has to change; she has to change. In a sudden turn of events, James s wealthy grandmother, Helen, hires Lucy as a consultant for a London literary and antiques excursion. Lucy reluctantly agrees and soon discovers Helen holds secrets of her own. In fact, Helen understands Lucy s predicament better than anyone else. As the two travel across England, Lucy benefits from Helen s wisdom as Helen confronts ghosts from her own past. Everything comes to a head at Haworth, home of the Bronte sisters, where Lucy is reminded of the sisters beloved heroines who, with tenacity and resolution, endured even in the midst of impossible circumstances. Now Lucy must face her past in order to move forward. And while it may hold mistakes and regrets, she will prevail if only she can step into the life that s been waiting for her all along."

@TheAromaofBooks

TheAromaofBooks I'll be interested to hear what you think. Reay consistently has books that sound like they should be exactly what I like, but somehow never hit the right notes for me. 1y
GinaKButler @TheAromaofBooks I ended up enjoying it…have to say, I wasn‘t a fan of the main character for the fist 3/4 of the book (the way she treated restaurant employees set my teeth on edge!) It definitely made me want to revisit London and all of its literary gems! 1y
TheAromaofBooks I struggled with how she got in trouble for lying, was like, “oh wow lying is a bad idea!“ ...and then kept lying!! I also wondered if I missed some of the connections, as at the time I hadn't read a single Bronte book! 1y

I know that this book is not everyone‘s cup of tea ☕️ but I thought it was extremely unique. The main character has a quality that is very unlikable, yet I found myself rooting for her and enjoying her journey of growth. This is such a colorful, vibrant story.

After my first Reay book, in October, I thought I should pick up more of her backlist. This was a very interesting read, especially because the “heroine” of the book made some very questionable choices making her interesting to root for. There‘s some really deep stuff in here, challenging whether fate is set and if our worldviews can adapt. Loved the many literary references - this would be a great flight book to the classics!

⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2

Bailing on this for now. The main character drives me batty with her manipulating and inability to change and I can‘t deal!!!

I liked this, even though it seemed to drag on places. Still, it was a good story. I‘d read more by this author. #MountTBRChallenge #19

Jess_Read_This Good to know about the dragging parts. I‘ve had this one on my shelf for awhile now. 6y

Finished this one tonight, but not counting it toward my 2018 total since I've had it going for months as my waiting in line/waiting backstage/etc. book. I thought the pacing was rushed in the beginning, which left me feeling off about the rest of the book. There were some nice moments while they were in England, but I didn't find the plot super enaging. Decent as fluff reading. We'll see how The Austen Escape compares as I go through my ebooks.

3 out of 5 stars...
I am always drawn in by a protagonist who loves literature, and Katherine Reay's always do. They talk about books, they quote authors, and in this, they tour the haunts of great British authors (the Brontes, Dickens, Woolf). I found myself Googling sites they visit and planning my future dream vacations. The story is a little flat and predictable, but the settings, allusions, and some of the characters make it very readable.

Loved this book! I think I have found a new favorite author! Helen's journey appealed to me deeply; I appreciated that Lucy had to find her own journey rather than copy Helen's. Great supporting characters! Sid was my favorite!

I'm abandoning this one. It's not bad necessarily, just not holding my attention. I have too many other books I want to read and I don't want to spend more time on one I'm not enjoying.
