Today is my 6-Year Bookaversary of being a book-obsessed bookworm. Most of my life I avoided books, didn't have the time, was not interested. For several years before 10/15/15, I started feeling the pull. No matter where I was, I started gravitating towards books. On 10/15/15, I succumbed, walking through a random store, a book caught my eye. I bought it, I read it... I bought more, read more. Then more. I converted.

I‘ve been reading a lot if intense books and need a break. I can‘t wait to read this series. Rick Riordan writes such fun books!

I really enjoyed this book. Only problem I had was I felt like the characters were being sent on too many errands. Like a video game with too many side quests. I all I wanted was the characters to complete the main quest line.

Finally finished Circe and moving on to a new series. Still feeling the mythology vibe so I‘m going to start a new Rick Riordan series.

“My name is Magnus Chase. I‘m sixteen years old. This is the story of how my life went downhill after I got myself killed.”

It‘s finally spring, but the weather is acting like it‘s still winter. So this is the perfect time to curl up with a fun book. Such a promising start.

Book was good! I forgot how funny Riordan is; I laughed out loud several times.

The narrator was terrible; like he was doing a parody of someone reading to children. As my kids say: cringe.

Basically Riordan is like a modern Homer, right? Retelling the great stories of folks interacting with the gods in a way that people enjoy? You get where I‘m going w/ this.

My fave thing abt these books is how Riordan realized how normative heroic YA typically is. It started around the last PJATO book & got progressively socially aware from there. Check out the nod to class, disability, gender (&more) in this series!

Well, I was done Christmas shopping. Then the Magnus Chase hardcover box set was only $13.62 on Amazon, so I had to order it for my boy. Yeah. For him. I just have to preview it first.

Great young adult adventure! Love the Norse mythology!

My take on the pride flag made of books *hides because it's awful* ?️‍? I made it the "new" one with the added brown and black stripes because that's an amazing idea.
I'm very glad we got to end pride month with Germany finally legalizing gay marriage, which was definitely loooooong overdue.

I should be getting through my YALC reading pile but today I'm hungover and fragile and need to go to my Magnus Chase happy place. Don't drink, kids.

Was feeling pretty nostalgic so I picked up this one and I remember why I loved the Percy Jackson series so much when I was a kid😍 humor is spot on and the characters are so diverse (and not just with mythical creatures either). Can't wait to finish it🙌🏼

Time to tackle Riordan's take on Norse mythology ⚔️

This is my Rick Riordan shelf (which holds part of my collection--look at those worn Percy Jackson spines). He's a local author here in Boston! Boston is featured in the Magnus Chase series and I love recognizing all the landmarks he tosses in there.

We have a number of amazing authors in and around San Antonio, David Liss, Paulette Jiles to name a couple. But seeing as my son has devoured all of Rick Riordan's books, he's my pick for #localauthor. To be fair, my husband has read all of Liss's books and Jiles book is high on my tbr list. #aprilbookshowers

I've been slacking my reads.
First book of the year.

Oh my Gods! It's truly brilliant, I am definitely starting book II now.

I'm catching up with my 9 yr old, who is on book two of this series. It's fun and engaging, and I was more than a little amused to find that the lead character's resemblance to Kurt Cobain on the book's cover is intentional.

Just heard from my ten-year-old son, who got this book for Christmas, that it is a great one. I'll post a review from him when he finishes.

Enjoyable read over holiday break.

I love Rick Riordan's books! They just make me laugh so much!

Fell in love all over again with Riordan. This first book is delightful. Seeing him in person certainly helped.

Definitely proof that Riordan refuses to lessen in quality. Great take on Norse mythology separating itself from mainstream marvel interpretations.

I wouldn't expect anything less from Rick Riordan.

I really enjoyed this book. I'm glad that Rick is starting to step away from Percy. (Poor boy needs to be left alone for awhile) I definitely would recommend Magnus Chase. I love this new character and can't wait for the next installment.

I am a huge fan of Rick Riordan! I thoroughly enjoyed the first book in this new series, which is based on the Norse Gods. I didn't plow through it as quickly as I did Percy, but once I got in to it it moved quickly. If you're a fan of Riordan's writing, you're sure to enjoy Magnus & his friends!

This is not Ricks best book or story by any means. The characters weren't as strong as in previous books or a lovable. I still enjoyed the book. However, I am hoping the second book is stronger all way around.

I only made it to page 180 before calling it quits. The tone of the narrator's voice was much too "dude-bro" for me to handle it very long. While I enjoyed the choice for Magnus' divine father, in a sense, it still wasn't enough for me to keep reading. Maybe the sequel will be better.

"Myths are simply stories about truths we've forgotten." Not his strongest work but I've never met a Rick Riordan book I didn't like.

Classic Riordan. Make sure you don't skip the chapter titles!

This was my first time reading Rick Riordan, and I can see why he is so popular. To be honest I didn't love Magnus, but some of the other characters were pretty fun, and I really enjoyed the way the Norse mythology was woven through the story.

Like PJO, the characters were funny and endearing. I liked all the references to PJO and the way Rick Riordan weaved the Norse mythology with his own story. The only thing I didn't appreciate was Magnus Chase sounding so much like Percy Jackson. My 12 year old self would have loved this, though.
