You Don't Have to Like Me: Essays on Growing Up, Speaking Out, and Finding Feminism | Alida Nugent
38 posts | 31 read | 78 to read
The author of Dont Worry, It Gets Worse takes on the F-word Alida Nugents first book, Dont Worry, It Gets Worse, received terrific reviews, and her self-deprecating everygirl approach continues to win the Internet-savvy writer and blogger new fans. Now, she takes on one of todays hottest cultural topics: feminism. Nugent is a proud feministand shes not afraid to say it. From the scarlet F thrust upon you if you declare yourself a feminist at a party to how to handle judgmental store clerks when you buy Plan B, You Dont Have to Like Me skewers a range of cultural issues, and confirms Nugent as a star on the rise.Smartly-written, unapologetic, and full of wit, You Don't Have to Like Meis perfectfor readers of Roxane Gay, Rebecca Skolnit, Sloane CrosleyFrom the Trade Paperback edition.

Smokey Joe ( cat) obviously doesn‘t care. My feminist book club is reading this book of essays. I loved them, even though Alida is a bit younger than me. Her spunk, wit and humor is perfect for all the usual topics - sex, feminism, weight loss, female friendships and safety. Her voice is honest and funny which makes it feel like having drinks with your girls. Well done millennials - you have your next Roxanne Gay - we‘re in good hands. 👏🏻

StillLookingForCarmenSanDiego I need a Feminist Book Club in my life. This read sounds great. 4y
Readaholics You just start one as a Facebook group. We meet first Friday of every month regardless of schedules at a coffee shop ( poor folks who are allergic to pets or non-boozers). You don‘t have to have read the book to come to the mtg. Some books - it‘s ok not to finish if it‘s not your thing. The only rule is the book has to be either: about women, written by a woman, or has a female lead. Really almost everything qualifies! 2020 - just do it. 4y

Grabbed this off the shelf on my way up to bed since Alphabet Juice isn‘t the easiest to read cozied up in bed (I mark the words I‘ve read so I don‘t keep reading the same ones). We shall see if I‘m feeling it or if I‘ll put it on hold.

I enjoyed this book so much! It's funny, poignant, and so relatable. Nugent's narration feels like you are hanging out with your best friend talking about being a woman. Thank you Sarah for sending me this book! #secretsantagoespostal

I loved this. It was incredibly accessible, powerful and often laugh out loud funny. She flits around subjects in quick, charming essays reminding you that individuality is important and to be celebrated.

On holiday, so couldn't take a pic of my own copy! But this book title sums me/my life up quite well I think. It's only been recently that I've accepted not everyone is going to like you, nor do they have to, and that it's okay to be yourself anyway :) #24in48

👍 because of her voice, her honesty & the LOL moments. But this book made me feel old. Her feminism is different than mine, more individual than collective, but it is no less valid or important. I wish I'd read a book like this 20 yrs ago when I was starting to understand what feminism was for me.

TheWellReadOwl In no way am I dismissing this book. For millennial feminists and parents of millennial feminists, this is an important read. 8y

LA_Mead Sounds interesting. Are the essays long? 8y
TheWellReadOwl @LA_Mead Nope. The whole book is about 200 pages and there are about 12 essays. It's a good length. 8y

I realized feminism was a thing I could claim for myself back in 2003, when I first read Carol Queen. Jessica Valenti, Jennifer Baumgardner, and many others soon followed. I love the explosion of new feminist manifestas I've been reading lately. Which are your favorites?

Notafraidofwords Bad Feminist and Full Frontal Feminism are my two favorites. 8y

I nodded so much while reading this book that my neck got sore. It was like sitting down with a feminist pal and having her say all the things that are in my head, and quite a few I had never thought of. Highly recommended - funny, smart, and incisive.
