My #bookspin could be describes as Appalachian fantasy. Deep in the hollows live a mysterious people, the Tufa, who live by their music and, some say, can fly. Wounded vet Bronwyn returns to her home and Tufa roots in the wake of her injuries and the death omens appearing around her family home. She may have a role to play in Tufa society whether she can endure it or not. Fascinating folklore, rich setting, interesting characters. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This book was actually quite a disappointment to me. The world was beautiful and magical and had a wonderful element of magical realism, which I loved. There was a wonderfully accurate element of racism and police brutality. The plot just struggled to get where it was going.

Listening to The Hum and the Shiver while taking an hour-long ‘ride in the park‘. Halfway through and I‘m really liking this book. Also, glad to be back on the bike. 🚴🏼‍♀️ #resolutions #audiobike

I listened to this on audio. I really enjoyed the story. It was a little different from what I'm used to with urban fantasy plots, which is refreshing because sometimes they can start to run together. I will say I felt like the audio was a little awkward with 2 different narrators. I've got the second one already downloaded to listen to.

This book was amazing because it was different yet familiar. I loved the ebb and flow of the story and the blurred lines between good and bad (not evil just bad). The author is a very down to earth man, and his story reflects this, with a hit of magic. A must read

I loved the premise, but I couldn‘t get into the book. I wanted more character development, mythology, better writing.

I devoured this book in a few days! It was just the change of pace that I needed to get me out of my book rut! I‘m going to try out the 2nd of the series on audio.

I don't know why I haven't heard more people talking about this series. Bronwyn Hyatt returns home from Iraq wounded and a war hero. The real battle, though, is her coming to terms with her heritage as part of the insular community of Tufa in rural Tennessee. Music and power run through this novel in magical ways. I absolutely loved this read and cannot wait to pick up the rest of these.

We're calling this a rural fantasy. I loved imagining my old stomping grounds in East TN being inhabited by the fae!

I decided to try this yesterday and ended up reading the entire thing. It was the June pick for #swordandlaser ... The best description is rural fantasy, set in East Tennessee Appalachia.

Love, love, love this story. Granted, it is a very raw book. It's sharp and all angles. There is no softness in it. If you like folklore, give it a whirl.

Sorry about the many posts. This will be the last one today, I promise. I'm excited to start this. I've heard good things about it. Hoping it's similar to the Nora Bonesteel books by Sharyn McCrumb.

#EarthSong This is one of my favorite series. Based on the Tufa tribe who have a deep connection to the woods they live in and a way with music, along with something...magical. I still need to read the last two in the series. 🙈But I enjoyed every bit of this series so far. #LyricalApril

I love Bledsoe's tales of the Tufa and once I start reading one of them, I can't put it down. I am in love with the way he seamlessly blends the mythology of the Sidhe into his Tufa hidden in the mountains & valleys of East Tennessee. You'll find no cliches or fairy dust here, but if the music burns in your blood pick this up and ride the night wind.

I have loved fairy tales since I was a young child devouring Grimm, Andersen, and Lang. Those tales led me to the work of Kevin Crossley-Holland, Joanna Cole, and Katharine Briggs, and fed a lifelong interest in Celtic folktales and mythology. Which is why I am in love with the Tufa and in Alex Bledsoe's series. Start with Hum and the Shiver and read through to Long Black Curl.

Bronwyn was a strong female lead character and all around badass. Although Bledsoe always leaves me feeling just short of emotionally attached to the story and characters, what was there was enough to keep me hooked. I love the idea of the Tufa and unique take on the content of the story(spoilers!).

Still reading? But I like it so far. Characters are interesting. Sleepy puppy isn't so sure.

"Sociopath?" Bronwyn said sarcastically.
"I was thinking 'asshole.' But whatever works for you." (Whole paragraph is too long). This made me laugh, I love the dry humor Bronwyn's family has even in serious moments.

Unfortunately I read Wisp Of A Thing (which I enjoyed except for what felt like a hurried ending in some respects) before I realized it was a series. So I am going back and reading this before I continue on in the series.
