Winner of the UKs Richard & Judy Search for a Bestseller Competition, this page-turning debut novel follows an orphan whose late, beloved best friend bequeaths her a treasure hunt that leads her all over Victorian England and finally to the one secret her friend never shared. It is 1831 when eight-year-old Aurelia Vennaway finds a naked baby girl abandoned in the snow on the grounds of her aristocratic familys magnificent mansion. Her parents are horrified that she has brought a bastard foundling into the house, but Aurelia convinces them to keep the baby, whom she names Amy Snow. Amy is brought up as a second-class citizen, despised by Vennaways, but she and Aurelia are as close as sisters. When Aurelia dies at the age of twenty-three, she leaves Amy ten pounds, and the Vennaways immediately banish Amy from their home. But Aurelia left her much more. Amy soon receives a packet that contains a rich inheritance and a letter from Aurelia revealing she had kept secrets from Amy, secrets that she wants Amy to know. From the grave she sends Amy on a treasure hunt from one end of England to the other: a treasure hunt that only Amy can follow. Ultimately, a life-changing discovery awaits...if only Amy can unlock the secret. In the end, Amy escapes the Vennaways, finds true love, and learns her dearest friends secret, a secret that she will protect for the rest of her life. An abandoned baby, a treasure hunt, a secret. As Amy sets forth on her quest, readers will be swept away by this engrossing gem of a novelthe wonderful debut by newcomer Tracy Rees.

I begin to write. Really, there is nothing else I can do.

Amy Snow is the book I wish I could erase from my memory ... so I could read it again for the first time. It's nothing like what I write and everything I 💘.

This is about as close as I‘m going to get to #frostythesnowman. 😂😂

Amy Snow is found as a young orphan but Aurelia, who takes her home despite her parents‘ protests. Amy and Aurelia grow up very close, but when Aurelia dies, Amy is banished from the family home. She sets off to follow clues to a secret Aurelia has hidden from her.

Never read this so I can‘t say if it‘s good but it won the Richard and Judy award in 2016! #winterwonderland

Reviewsbylola It‘s not. I am not very familiar with it, just saw it on the blurb. @TrishB 5y
TrishB lol 😁 I thought it was weird! They are day-time tv presenters and they have a book club with WH Smith‘s - if you get picked it generally becomes a best seller! 5y
Reviewsbylola So like similar to Oprah‘s book club in the US maybe? @TrishB 5y
TrishB A bit, but they‘re not nearly as famous/big as Oprah! 5y

A satisfying, very well-written historical romantic melodrama. Although the secret is not one that is difficult to figure out, a treasure hunt to uncover the secret is well-thought out and makes for a far more interesting read. I'd say, a little too pretty, but I still liked it.

I decided to get a start on my challenge bookshelf for my 2018 challenges. I‘m doing #pop18 and #booked2018. I am going to have to find another shelf somewhere though, as I‘m out of room and still have plenty of books on the way. Or maybe I can knock out a few in the first few days of January. 🤔😂 Now to clean off my bedside TBR. Gotta start the NY fresh!

Tkekacs I see some good ones😊 I‘m going to read Smillas Sense of Snow this year for PopSugar also... alliteration in the title 6y

As a young girl, heiress Aurelia, finds an abandoned baby in the snow. Aurelia insists that the baby be raised by the household. The two grow very close until Aurelia‘s untimely death. Then Amy Snow receives a coded letter left by Aurelia that sets her off on a treasure hunt.

This was really between a pick and so-so for me. It was a light, quick read. However, I found some things difficult to believe and others predictable & not fully developed.

Laura317 I felt the same way. I gave it a so-so. 6y

Finally finished this Audible book. Amy Snow is found as a baby in the snow by 8 yo Aurelia Vannaway. Amy grows up in the Vannaway home treated horribly by the parents and as a pet by Aurelia. When Aurelia dies of a heart condition, she leaves clues for Amy to follow to solve a great mystery. It was ok. I thought it would never get to the mystery. Sometimes it seemed pointless. All in all, I give it 2 1/2 stars.

I really enjoyed this Victorian Gothic mystery with a touch of romance. Our heroine Amy is an orphan, discovered as a baby by a rich young girl with whom she becomes dear friends. When that young lady dies, Amy finds that posthumously sent letters will lead her on a treasure hunt that will change her life and reveal a secret her friend literally took to the grave. The main appeal is not the mystery, but rather Amy's journey and the characters.

Reviewsbylola This sounds right up my alley 7y

3⭐️. I was quite invested in the first 3/4 of this story. I was following along with the relationship and subsequent quest Amy is sent on following the passing of her beloved Aurelia. I kept wondering if Amy's origin would ever be known. Then...crickets. The story just fell short toward the end. It's been two weeks and I can't recall the ending - and don't care enough to re-read for clarity.

Amy Snow is another historical fiction novel set in England. I thoroughly enjoyed the "treasure hunt" her longtime friend sent her on after her passing. Amy got to experience life while revisiting the bonds of friendship she had experienced with her late friend. The relationships she built during the journey set her up for a wonderful life after the treasure had been discovered. And what a treasure it was! #UCFLAE3414sp17

The beginning dragged, the middle was somewhat better, but then I just wanted to be done with it. That about sums up my experience with Amy Snow. it was relatively boring and the revelation that you are heading toward the whole time is no surprise at all to either the reader or the heroine.

I enjoyed this novel. It's hard to describe in just a small space. It's a story within a story, and there are many subplots. However, it is a long read (over 500 pgs). Part Dickens, part Austen. Very rich character development.

I do not often read books of historical fiction, though this particular novel caught my eye and captured my interest.

I enjoyed the mysterious journey set in the mid 1800's and felt I could connect to the character of Amy Snow.
I also appreciated the way in which the story was structured as it allowed for the treasure hunt to continue to its final pages.

Amy Snow has become a new favourite of mine 💙

I enjoyed reading this almost gothic romance even though I had the plot and suspense element pretty much figured out about half way through. The pace was a bit uneven and dragged for me at times, and the romance felt rushed without getting me fully invested. Still, it was an enjoyable, fast vacation read and satisfied my reading mood right now.

An enjoyable read set in 1840s England. Features a friendship between two girls, one privileged, one a penniless orphan. Not a spoiler, as it happens in chapter 1: When the rich girl dies, she sets up a treasure hunt for her friend using secret letters with clues that only Amy will understand. The time period makes this a very interesting journey - especially for a woman.

Farther along now, I am enjoying this historical fiction novel with a romance element. The exposition at the beginning felt a little long on audio, but the reader is very good.
