The first book in a new Regency romance series, an heiress and a rogue accidentally end up in a secret marriage of convenience. In a desperate bid to keep her fortune out of her cousins hands, shipping heiress Georgiana Caversteed marries a condemned criminal in Newgate prison. The scoundrels first kiss is shockingly heated, but Georgie never expects to see her husband again. Until she spots him across a crowded ballroom. Notorious rogue Benedict Wylde never expected a wife. He was in Newgate undercover, working for Bow Street. To keep their marriage of convenience a secret, Wylde courts Georgie in public, but the more time they spend together, the more their attraction sparks. Could an heiress with the world at her feet find happiness with a penniless rake? Kate Bateman's This Earl of Mine is a delightful start to the Bow Street Bachelors series, with witty banter, dynamic characters, and swoon-worthy romance.

This is a fun marriage of convenience HR with plenty of shenanigans, banter, a bit of heat, and a villainous cousin. I do love a smarmy romance villain, even if MOC is not my favorite trope. This isn‘t my favorite of Bateman‘s novels, but still a good brain break from reality and heavier (sad) books.

It‘s only Tuesday, but it has already been A WEEK. My current reads are all emotionally heavy or just slow (seriously, why does Cormac McCarthy hate quotation marks for dialogue? 😭). After crying listening to The Witch‘s Heart, I picked up the 1st book in the Bow Street Bachelors series. I have #3 in my NetGalley queue. I love Bateman‘s Ruthless Rivals series, so I want to read this one in order. So far, it‘s a much needed brain break.

Cinfhen Oh no!!! Wishing you peace as the week continues xx 1y

DNF- I forget if I got this book recommendation on YouTube or TikTok, but I'm just bored. Love the concept, but at 40% in I'm just BORED. I don't care about either character. The plot went from fun and ridiculous to just ridiculous in a bad way, and the whole spy thing is not my cup of tea.

I could not stop reading this book! Amazing characters, steamy romance and such a fun story. I loved everything about it.

Georgiana needs to get married to stop her cousin from forcing her into a marriage where he takes control of her business. What better way to get and lose a husband than to marry a criminal about to get hung?

But Benedict is actually undercover for Bow Street and when he meets up with Georgiana again, the sparks fly.

wanderinglynn Sounds interesting! 2y

Really enjoyed this historical romance! It was nice to get back to a typical historical romance where I know how it‘s going to end. This one is fun.

Georgie wants to get married so her cousin can‘t force her to marry him. She marries a man in Newgate prison set to hang. To her surprise, she sees him a week later in a ballroom.

I had high hopes for this book. The first chapter sizzled with promise. The characters were funny & smart, the set up intriguing. But the rest of the story was rather like a balloon slowly losing its air. The chemistry grew tepid, bogged down by very prosy writing, which often smacked of both anachronism & exoticism, too. The author also consistently used colonization as a metaphor for desire (🤢). Good characters, very mediocre writing. ★★☆☆☆.

An exciting read, with fun and well paced plot. Prepare to suspend disbelief in the name of fun...the scene at Newgate prison is both improbable and naive.

*ARC received from Netgalley*

4.5 Stars - I really enjoyed this book. I found the characters engaging and witty. The situation the author used was a wonderful start to the story. Watching Benedict and Georgiana fall in love was amusing and delightful. I have not read this author before but I found her writing style smooth and very easy to slip into the world being created. I look forward to Alex and Seb's stories as well as Bateman's backlist.
