I loved this Little Red Riding Hood retelling. It did not follow the usual YA tropes that have come up in a lot of the #FairytaleReadingChallenge books I've been reading (love triangles, enemies to lovers etc), and I found that so refreshing. However it does have werewolves, period positivity, empowering female friendships, patriarchy smashing. Will definitely be reading more from this author. ❤🐺 @Charityann

ShelleyBooksie @DinoMom - this one sounds right up your alley! ♡ 3y
Gissy I have that one. I should read it for the challenge. I forgot that have it!🤦🏽‍♀️Is that an indication that I have too many unread books?, probably.. but that is not going to stop me to acquire more📚📚📚🤗It is my therapy🙌 3y

I love the allegory of teenaged boys as the big bad wolves to the girls‘ Red Riding Hoods. Boys that don‘t understand that no means no is a problem that I‘m glad to see being addressed in modern YA. I wasn‘t fond of the author‘s decision to tie feminine power to menstrual cycles. Really? The descriptions of these events is of a graphic nature that makes me profoundly grateful that that part of my life is over! 😂 One of the few perks of aging!

Hmm.. I am just not sure how to feel about this book. I really liked the genuine friendship and I adored the grandma. I am a female and im for normalizing periods, but even I thought some of the descriptions in here were too much, and too gross lol. I'd have to rate it a 3/5 stars just on the fact I think it was a little too weird and a little too far fetched for me.

I can see how some might struggle to get through this book... it was brutal and unflinching. But Arnold has such a powerful way with words and nothing gets to me more than a YA book with genuine female friendships 😍😍

Sometimes a Pick...Sometimes a So-So
THE DETAILS✎ ❐ CONTEMPORARY MIXED WITH FANTASY ❐ METAPHORICAL & ALLEGORICAL ❐ 2ND PERSON POV ❐ GIRL POWER/FEMINISM ❐ LOOSELY BASED ON RED RIDING HOOD ❐ VIOLENT TO THE POINT OF POSSIBLY GOING TO FAR

This story is crazy, and while it went too far with the violence...I still found myself liking it for the most part.

I get a book I‘m extremely excited to read but I‘m in the middle of other things so it has to wait its turn. And then I get another one that gets placed on top of the aforementioned exciting book and it just keeps happening until all of the exciting books are buried underneath newer exciting books and I never seem to get to them. I pulled out these four dust collectors and I am committed to reading them before 2020 ends. #bookwormproblems

Bette I hear this. It gets frustrating: possibly good books having to wait their turn. 📚📚📚😏 4y

I've finished Solomon's Jar! 🎉 My next eyeball book will be Red Hood, which I'm also hoping to finish today, but we'll see! Still hoping to finish off Withering Heights as well. #deweys24hourreadathon #readathon

Highly recommended! This is one of the few books that I‘ve come across that is written in a 2nd person narrative. Very relevant in today‘s subject of misogyny, and the typical social views of women and men. Just a heads up: There are some paragraphs depicting mild sexual acts that might make some readers uncomfortable but don‘t let deter you reading the book.

⭐Lots of things! I started a lot of new books recently! ? Today I'm reading the tagged book which is a dark, feminist retelling of Red Riding Hood. It's so fierce and amazing!

⭐ A few nights ago I had yummy Czech paprika pork that I made! Mmmm! It's my favorite! ?

⭐ Lots of walking in the park, attempting to write!

That was incredible!!! Yes it is dark and gritty-not usually my style-but the realism not being hidden made it worth it. Bisou‘s menses make her stronger to hunt on the full moon. Hunt the men that turn into wolves. The wolves that attack girls and woman who did not give the men what they want. Like, the old man who went after the young girl. Was nice to see not all men are wolves. The side piece of Bisou rewriting her mother‘s poems felt good

Half-way. What a book! Now I understand the middle section of the book; Mémé telling her story of being a hunter. Usually books have that either in the beginning or the end, or even flashbacks through the story. Not straight in the middle, as one sits and tells another. I love the analogy of the moons cycle syncing with Bisou, making herstronger to hunt the wolf. The question still remains, though; why are boys turning into wolves to hunt girls?

Interesting first 20 pages to introduce the book. It‘s already dark and gritty; not usually my forte, but I loved the authors previous work so I have to give this one a try. The book has three parts, seemingly so far, distant to each other. Girls lost in the wood with the hungry wolf close behind. Cannot wait to see where this goes

As you may already know, Book of the Month YA is going away. Because of this, a Facebook group that I am in for BOTM YA discussion was looking to change its name to encompass all YA books. Many members contributed creative names but, by some miracle, my name contribution received the most votes! As the winner, I was allowed to choose a new YA book to have shipped out to me. Make sure you look for the group on Facebook: Forever Young YA Readers!

PicnicBasket @Brittybuhh I totally get the feeling, there‘s been some books I‘ve read where I just can‘t handle some parts of it and I‘ve had to take a breather. 5y

I love this cover. It is dark, sinister, and a bit bloody. Everything I love in a fairytale retelling.

If you cant' guess this is a retelling of red riding hood (I believe). Hopefully its better than Red Riding Hood by Sarah Blakey-Cartwright (the one that was made into the movie staring Amanda Seyfried.)

This is by the same author as Damsel

#CoverLove #YA Edition

Out February 25

TheAromaofBooks The Blakey-Cartwright retelling was pretty bad. I read it not realizing that it was a movie/book thing. Nothing worse than feeling like a book could be so much better than it actually is, still wading through it, and then there isn't even a last chapter! Had to go online to read the ending, which felt cheap. 5y
LibrarianRyan @TheAromaofBooks That pissed me off so MUCH. I had to wait 3 months before I could read the last chapter because they didn't want to spoil the movie. It sucked so bad. I had no desire to see the movie after reading the book, but for one of my staff members it was the best movie she had ever seen. I was hard not to gag. 5y
SaturnDoo This one is ok. Glad I'm not a fan of retellings. 5y
TheAromaofBooks Luckily, for once my inability to read books when they first come out actually worked in my favor so I at least didn't have to wait for the ending. But the whole thing felt sooo gimmicky. I would have been hot-pissed if I'd had to wait for the end! I never bothered to see the movie because the book annoyed me so much lol 5y

I'm not sure if this is a little Red riding hood tale, or a robin hood tale, but I love the cover. Fluffy violence!
