What a great book! Fiction about a complicated family and their search and rescue dogs. I normally am not a fan of open endings but it was perfect in this book!

How I finished September for books (I know I won't get to read the next 3 days to finish any more)
A good book. I finished it today while cuddling my cats on my lunch break. This working from home thing is pretty cool lol
I love The Inheritance Games series, The Naturals series, The Fixer & now this one by Barnes.
An abandoned & rescued girl becomes a Search & Rescue dog trainer & handler. When her family gets called in to search for a missing girl, secrets, grief, & memories all come out.
I inhaled this one. 💙

27/52: The Lovely and the Lost
Very unique story, read it in two days. Kira‘s traumatic past made me cry multiple times.

My first book finished for #AnyWayYouReadathon. Really enjoyed this unique YA book, but that ending kills me! There‘s definitely resolution, but the ending brings up a new mystery and it doesn‘t look like a sequel is planned. 😢 @kimmypete1 @Eggbeater
Sadly, for this #AnyWayYouReadathon, I'm working the entire weekend. Today is particularly rough, because I work 12 hour days on Fridays and will be pretty busy. I should be able to get some reading done on Sunday though. I'm off Monday and Tuesday, so that's something to look forward to! Hoping to finish the audio for The Lovely and the Lost today and make progress on the eArc of Cackle.

This book drew me in and wouldn't let me go. It had a bit of everything - secrets, suspense, dogs - even some humor for levity. I loved the characters. The plot - a girl who was found feral in the woods when she was young now, as a teenager, trains search & rescue dogs with her adopted family, gets called to help search for a girl who's gone missing - was intensely compelling. As if that wasn't enough, many things are not as they seem.
I thoroughly enjoyed the search and rescue aspect of this story and the relationships between the teenagers and the dogs. The mystery and the connection to Kira‘s own past made for a fascinating story. I didn‘t quite appreciate the little twist at the end that leaves this book open to a sequel.

How is it Sunday night already???? Ruby and I aren't ready for Monday!
I read this months ago via #netgalley and now it‘s out in the wild! Here‘s part of my original review:
“As usual, I was immediately sucked right in. JLB knows how to start a book...For me, it slowed a bit in the middle. The conclusion, while satisfying, was a bit rushed and there are some unanswered questions and under-explored resolutions that leave room for a series. I love her writing but this wasn‘t her strongest.”
A great mystery with search-and-rescue dogs and pasts that the characters don‘t want to remember. For my full review https://www.instagram.com/p/BxJHtT2n8FN/?igshid=12bt0ssurhxn8
This was a #netgalley title I‘ve been reading on my kindle at the kids‘ bedtime all week. It was a super quick read and some of it was a little far fetched, but I didn‘t see the surprise twist at the end and generally enjoyed the story. I‘ll definitely pick up the sequel.
I finished my first #readathon book! I was so excited to receive an advanced copy of Jennifer Lynn Barnes‘ new book. I am a huge fan. This book does not disappoint. I loved Kira and her family including the dogs! Jude was absolutely delightful. I like how Barnes always writes about broken people. They are never perfect and often struggling with some really hard stuff. I am hoping this book will turn into a series!
I didn‘t get the little congratulations page when I hit my goal (😢) maybe because GR knew I had revised it down twice. I had originally set my goal for 125 but I was in a bit of a reading funk for a large part of the year. I am very happy with my 97 books and the great books I read toward the end of the year to get me there but I‘m setting it to 125 again for 2019 and hoping I can avoid the book blahs this year!
As usual, I was immediately sucked right in. JLB knows how to start a book. You instantly get a sense of who the characters are and the tone of the story. For me, it slowed a bit in the middle. The conclusion, while satisfying, was a bit rushed and there are some unanswered questions and under-explored resolutions that leave room for a series. I love her writing but this wasn‘t her strongest.

Early Christmas present to me when I was approved for this one on Netgalley! I just love JLB‘s writing. I‘m already sucked in. Now to carve out some reading time. Napping has been trumping reading over the last few days.
