Much darker than the other two, but maybe the best yet. Audrey Rose comes to grips with her fear of setting down and settling down early. She seemed truest to herself and the most honest with herself in this book. Though she and Thomas go through some heart- wrenching trials, they seem to come out the other end the stronger for them.

I love this series!
And I love the authors notes at the end of every book.

I only think it was a bit lacking of Cresswell... But I still liked the mystery.

Oh thank goodness that‘s over....! While the imagery is stunning, it cries out for brutal editing because the language is florid and overblown. Audrey Rose, a character with promise in the first book, spends most of her time whining about decency, romantic indecision or (*gasp*) desire, an unfortunate fall for a previously interesting character. Once again, actions do not match character ages & seem shoehorned down to make the book YA. 😭🤦🏻‍♀️😭

Here is another Houdini (from whom I wouldn‘t want to escape)! Honestly, this book is perilously close to a DNF but for the fact a friend bought me the last book in the series and I promised I‘d read it 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️ Audrey Rose, an interesting character in the first book, becomes a ranty, annoying Puritan in this one. One more gasping line about indecency or debauchery and I swear I won‘t be able to be held responsible for my actions

On the one hand, this was everything I wanted in a Cressworth adventure. ♥️ 🌹 Hence, the 4 🌟s. But...

I totally understand the criticisms. The two biggest:

1. The title, while eyecatching, doesn‘t fit the story. Houdini plays a bit part that is both noticeably fictionalized and almost out of character for this particular tale. To be fair, this is a pet peeve of mine - if the title doesn‘t fit the story, it feels rigged. ⬇️⬇️⬇️

MellieAntoinette 2. Thomas was also relegated to a cameo, featuring only long enough to remind us of the couple we all desperate to catch up with. I hope this doesn‘t continue cause it kind of made me dislike Audrey Rose. 🥀 2mo

Anyone who has read this one... I‘m struggling! Half a chapter before, Character X desperately wanted to learn something (stupid). Now she‘s being offered the chance but she‘s turning it down apparently because it was offered...🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️ This series has a RAVENOUS fandom while I‘m sitting here with two expensive hardbacks and stupid characters I‘m really starting to loathe... OPINIONS PLEASE LISTY!

CarolynM I don't think I understand what the author is trying to make these characters say. Maybe I need more context, or maybe it's just pretentious twaddle🙂 2mo
GlassAsDiamonds @CarolynM nope - pretentious twaddle 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️ I feel like the author could have been BRILLIANT with a brutal editor and a slap to the back of the head: “FLORID IS BAD, CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT IS GOOD” .... the texts is the middle of an outraged rant by Character Y that Character X has offered Character Y something they wanted half a chapter before but HOW COULD THEY, THE UPSTART... 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️ 2mo

Creswell and Wadsworth are... not at it again. I was disappointed with this read because what I have come to love was not present in this book- a lovely team working together to solve crimes. Though I get what the author was doing, I felt the love triangle was unnecessary and that the case was a background piece. With that said, I am looking forward to the next book, hoping it gets back to what I loved so much about the story.

Re-read #3 complete for the release of the final book in the series, Capturing the Devil, which comes out NEXT WEEK! I'm super excited & it leaves me just enough time to sneak in the novella one last time (even though it just came out and was devoured last month lol)... Again, I can never rave about this series enough. I'll be sad to see it end. 5🌟

This is the 3rd book from The Stalking Jack the Ripper series. In this one Audrey Rose and Thomas are on a cruise to New York where a carnival is performing each night and bodies keep appearing. I really liked this one, the Ringmaster, Mephistopheles added an extra level of intrigue that made this one my favorite so far 🃏

Took me awhile to finish this one but that's not anything bad about the book, I've just been in a bit if a reading slump with my vacation coming up! But I had to finish before going and I did today! I literally cried at chapter 39 (there are 40). I was so emotional! I cannot wait for the ebook to drop next month and then the final book in the series later this year! 😮😍

I don‘t usually read more than two books at once, but by Tuesday I‘ll be at 4 😂 I‘ve been more indecisive than usual lately, so I‘m jumping around quite a bit. I plan to start with Caraval on my kindle for the long bus ride to DC in two days, but this has been on my TBR and my shelf for quite a while.

I am just at a stalemate with the books I'm currently in the middle of. I have read maybe 100 pages in the last week... So I'm going to escape (wink wink) into this one before the final book comes out later this year. Hoping it'll break my slump and I can get back into/finish those others I'm struggling with

I did not foresee who the murderer was before the reveal. Just like the magicians in the Midnight Carnival, the author successfully distracted me so I didn‘t see who the culprit was. I am loving this series and can‘t wait for September when the next book comes out!

5/5 🌟
I really enjoy that this time, they were on a boat where the Moonlight Carnival took place.
I enjoyed the mystery of the murderer. From beginning to end, every single character is a suspect an they are trying to resolve the mystery.
I really enjoyed that each night, you could read about the performers and their tricks. You can tell the author did a lot of research.
One think I like, is that with each book, the stories gets better!

So this wasn‘t my favorite in the series. There was tension between Wadsworth and Cresswell that made the story unappetizing. Their easy camaraderie has always been what makes these novels work. The mystery was interesting enough and I enjoyed the information on the background of tarot and cartomancy, but in the end just a so-so for me.

Wonderfully narrated by Nicola Barber.

I absolutely loved this book! I love the eloquent vocabulary, the more prominent element of romance (compared to the other 2 books), and how the clues never led you straight to the killer. This is the series I‘ve been recommending the most lately and I even went and bought a book box for the 4th book that comes out later this year. The end almost had my heart breaking for one of the characters and I‘m so excited for the next book.
