New York Times bestselling author and Queen of the Beach Reads Mary Kay Andrews delivers her next blockbuster, Hello Summer.Conley Hawkins left her family's small town newspaper, The Silver Bay Beacon, in the rear view mirror years ago. Now, after ten years of blood, sweat, and tears, Conley is exactly where she wants to be and is about to take a fancy new position at a New York City newspaper. That is, until she discovers at her own going away party that her new job is suddenly gone, disappearing overnight along with her hopes and dreams of a bright future in a big city.Dread in her heart and a sinking feeling in her gut, Conley ends up in the last place she ever wanted to be: The Beacon, now reluctantly run by her brother Garret whose own dreams of being a lawyer were put on hold with the death of their father. Covering a sleepy beach town with church news and the local funeral home director dictating the day's obituaries to her over the phone isn't exactly every reporter's dream, and to make matters worse, she and her brother see eye to eye on almost nothing. Matters come to a head after Conley witnesses a car accident that ends in the death of a local politician - a beloved war hero with a secret shady history whose death may not be exactly what it seems.

Well is not a hello, it‘s almos a bye bye summer b ecause I‘m posting this review extremely late...😳😂It was read last June.
I enjoyed this one because it has a touch of mystery after a suspicious death occurred. If you know this author, you will expect a lot of family drama with some funny scenes due to town gossips, that Rowena is a funny character. 3.5/3.7 ⭐️ I found this author recent book for free👍

DieAReader 🥳Great! 😉Better late than never! 4mo

I forgot to post about this one. I listened to it in the beginning of last month while I was building my bookshelves. It was okay, not bad but not really good either. I thought the main character was weirdly vapid for someone who was supposed to be an award winning journalist. Maybe it‘s just not my cup of tea.

“I hate these things,” Conley Hawkins said, gazing toward the newsroom‘s glass-encased conference room, where the rest of the staff was gathering.

📷 is from first day of Summer when I started this book. Took me awhile to get into it. Wasn't the fluffy 'Beach Read' I've come to expect from MKA. Tackles some serious things like how to convince G'mama to take her medicine and do what the doctor tells her. Also there is a character taking care of his mother who has dementia which was heartbreaking. At 472 pages, I think it could have been trimmed a bit. Liked it didn't love it. 😎

Crinoline_Laphroaig Main character Conley was kind of annoying at times. Especially when she continually tries to get her pharmacist friend to break HIPAA rules. I did especially enjoy one of my favorite authors getting a shout out: "her favorite Maud Hart Lovelace Betsy Tacy books, because Betsy wanted to be a writer too; " 4y
Crinoline_Laphroaig I found Confederate Statue in the town eerie. How it's mentioned as being Politically Incorrect yet basically ignored as just a part of the town. Especially as I've also been reading
4y
Crinoline_Laphroaig And I never got why the newspaper column was called Hello Summer, when apparently it was printed year round. I get the reasoning of showing completed newspaper stories but often it was just a rehash what we'd already knew. 4y

Evening isn't shaping up to have any reading time. I'm not going to be able to finish any of the 4 Books I'm currently reading.😏 Did manage several 🏳️‍🌈 reads, 6 books over 400 pages, and to keep up with all my Challenges this month. 📚 #mymonthinbooks

Mary Kay Andrews draws on her former career as a newspaper reporter for this murder mystery featuring a reporter returning to her small hometown town with her family and other unfinished business. I enjoyed it because my daddy ran just this kind of small town newspaper when I was growing up, but for others that may be less fun. The title is a bit of a misdirection and the story is not really sunny.

Conley Hawkin's new job as a big city reporter blows up and she returns to sleepy Floridian town of Silver Bay. The weekly little family-owned paper is barely surviving where Grayson, Conley's sister is managing editor. But sleepy Silver Bay wakes up when Conley witnesses a fiery accident where the driver was none other than a beloved congressman. Conley works the mysterious story and gets much more than she bargained for! A super summer read!

To tell the truth, I'm fine with all my usual Summer activities being canceled. Taking advantage of this to contemplate my commitments. What things do I truly want to return to? Plus staying home gives me more time to read!
Sorted through my Books this week and picked out what to read this Summer.

Family drama, Southern living, romance, scandal, greed, murder, mystery. It‘s all there in Mary Kay Andrews‘ newest book “Hello, Summer”. Perfect beach read. Fast-paced and suspenseful, it will keep you turning the pages. This is the third book I have read by this author and am convinced I need to read more of her books.
