I love it when we take like completely unknown historical event, item or person and build something around it. I've always found religion in a historical context and its use to impose power of (predominately) rich men. Dolssa was a fascinating character on her own but I loved the surrounding cast. I couldn't quite see the settings being painted but everything else was good. I don't think this is really a read for someone who doesn't like history.

Intense and heartbreaking.
I had a hard time reading the hard copy, so I switched to audio and fell in love.

Started @24in48 Readathon at 8 AM (as early as I could muster) with a religious text of sorts - The Passion of Dolssa by Julie Betty (on audio). This is the most religious thing I own, a book of Waterhouse paintings, full of martyred, chaste, and virtuous heroines. #24in48

I just couldn't get into this one. The writing style wasn't bad, but the plot was slow and put me to sleep every time I tried to pick the book up. I can see how readers more into historical fiction would really dig this one though. #DNF

"What did you think, that heretics grew horns?"
I had heard words to that effect. Horns, and giant genitals, too. ? #metameta

I appreciated the writing from the beginning, but the story didn't really grab me until the main characters all came together (about 100 pages in). After that, though, I couldn't put it down.

A new audiobook. Some YA about two girls (one mystic, one matchmaker) in southern France during the Inquisition.
It's a contender in the kidlit version of the Tournament of Books hosted by the School Library Journal called Battle of the Kids' Books. (You can find the full list at blogs.slj.com/battleofthebooks) What can I say? I do like me some book bracketology.😀

I've been slooooowly making headway in this one. Honestly, if I didn't already like the author I'd have bailed by now. The setting is lush and so wonderfully described, and the characters are multifaceted and interesting, but...I just can't see where it's going. I'm almost halfway through so I'm hoping it picks up soon!

This book was so much more than I expected. Don't let the title throw you off like it did for me. I let this one sit off to the side for months.

This is the tale of Dolssa, a noble French woman from the time shortly after the crusades, who was falsely convicted of heresy. It's the tale of the three independent sisters making their way in the same time and country. It is definitely worth your time. The audiobook narrators were really good too!

This book is nothing like the name and cover let me believe. I kind of love it. I'm 3 for 3 this week!

This book was amazing. It is one of those books that you can't stop thinking about after you finish it. I loved the setting- 13th century France and Spain (unusual, especially for a YA novel), and I also loved how every character was important, even if you don't originally realise that they play a vital part in the story. They were all so well developed. The plot was excellent, for the whole last 3rd especially I was like 😱. Highly recommended!!!

Started this because Marjorie Ingall told me it's nearly flawless. Now about to make the 6yo go to bed unjustly early so I can get back to it. Like nothing I've read before, and totally spellbinding.

It really wasn't my favorite. It took almost three months for me to read it, and the constant use of italicized vocabulary that was a blend of so many languages was awfully distracting. Could have been worse, but also could have been so much better.

I was stunned by 'All the truth that's in me' and have high hopes for the next book by Julie Berry. Just need to get uni assignment done first. #bookhype #coverlove #ya
