This is billed as Les Miserables meets Six of Crows and I think that is an apt description, although I don‘t think it was quite as riveting as the latter. Taking place in an alternate historical Paris where the French Revolution failed, Nina takes spends her time thieving and doing what she can to protect her “sister” Ettie. While there were definitely moments of excitement, overall I did struggle with it holding my attention.

Retelling mashup of Les Miserables and the Jungle Book. There were some places that the story moved too quickly through scenes but overall it was good. I‘ve never read Les Miserables or The Jungle Book and I want to read both now. I‘ll be watching for the next book in the series. 🥖🥖🥖🥖

First in a trilogy, set in an alternative 1828 Paris where the city is ruled by the Royals and nine criminal houses. Nina a thief is trying to keep her sister Ettie from the horrible Tiger, one of the leaders of these houses. I really enjoyed it, full of adventure, fast-paced and gritty. I will need to wait until next year for the next one!

This is definitely one of my top reads this year. The world the characters inhabit is grotesque, brutal, and gritty. It‘s a sort of magical realism, but not quite your typical fantasy. Quite an unpleasant world, but there is a swashbuckling quality to it which lends the whole book a sense of whimsy and playfulness. The plot moves at a fast lick and I was hooked. Ultimately an exploration of evil and humanity. Well worth a read!

In a different 2020 I am arriving in Paris with some of my best friends today and beginning the last hurrah of my 20s.

A fantastically dark historical reimagining of Les Miserables. I had a lot of fun with this book & really enjoyed my read. There is fantastic world-building & I loved how this alternate Paris came to life. There is some complexity & info dumping in the world creation, but the writing was excellent & the pacing of the book was near perfect. I loved the action & tension in the plot. I look forward to being able to read the rest of the trilogy.

From the second I saw this beautiful cover I new I needed it in my life!

It was fun, witty and full of twists and turns.

While I did enjoy the writting style I found myself getting lost with each jump through time. It covered way too much story for one novel and made it so difficult to keep track of each character. I feel like I never really got the chance to get to know any of the characters stoping me from forming any sort of bond.

I was SO excited for this book and while it was good, it was also disappointing. This could have easily been 2 or 3 books but so much was glossed over that I really couldn‘t enjoy the story and connect with the characters. I will definitely read the next one but I‘m sad this one fell so short for me.

This book is a fast paced, action packed romp through the streets of Paris. A retelling of Les Miserables and The Jungle Book, I loved every second. And this edition is gorgeous!

I finally finished my school‘s yearbook, so I am rewarding myself with cider and a book described as Six of Crows meets Les Misérables.

oh I loved this! The cast was awesome but I am just in LOVE with the setting. SO MUCH. But I am also trash for anything even remotely related to the French Revolution. I loved all the touches from Les Mis and the Jungle Book. I adore the relationship between Nina and Ettie.

Inspired by Les Miserables, this YA novel centers around Eponine, Nina as she is known here, and more of the Parisienne criminal element, dividing them into guilds. The story is engaging but unfortunately the character development relies too heavily on the original material which detracts from the book. I liked the creative elements more and wish there had been more of that... #NetGalley

This book was SOOOO much fun. I love Les Miserables so seeing all the references and inclusion of the characters from the original and some of the song lyrics from the musical was entertaining. I got lost in this world of France and its many Guilds and didn't want this book to end. There was action, a bit of budding romance, surprise, and angst. I highly recommend this book if you are any bit a fan of Les Miserables. 5🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 thanks NetGalley.

This was full of great stuff like loyalty and betrayal, suffering-revenge-retribution, a tame love square and most of all Hope. A major motivation for our MC was the notion of Family. The word was stretched and redefined multiple times. The world building was immersive. The characters were all ambiguous, angsty and humanly gray. I absolutely adored this book!

I‘ve been looking forward to this book for two years and this fell super flat. The character had it way to easy when it came to her heists. Not great world building and not great character building. The best thing was the pace and the friendships.
