This is legitimately one of King's best short works, and remains one of my absolute favorites of his. A mysterious pink Kindle has the ability to access the literary output of authors from alternate realities where they published works we never saw? Yes please. If I got my hands on one of these, you'd never hear from me again, I'd be too busy reading. Short but undeniably sweet. 5/5

1. Only when I have but a few minutes to read and I don‘t have my kindle or a print book handy

2. Kindle, with the “just like paper print” and non-iPad style backlit lighting

This Stephen King novella is one you are either going to love or hate. I personally loved it. What would you do if you got an enchanted kindle with UR books written by world famous authors in 10 million different timelines? Unreleased books? For example in timeline 123,456 (not in the book, my example), Hemingway didn‘t kill himself and there are several more books he wrote. This would be amazing on so many levels and I‘d probably turn into a ⬇️

JenlovesJT47 Zombie from reading around the clock. Such a cool concept for a story! And that is why he is my favorite author. 5⭐️ 4y
Librariana Sounds intriguing! The hubby has become a more consistent audiobook listener and he loves King. Will have to share this one with him! 😊 4y
JenlovesJT47 @Librariana I hope he enjoys it as much as I did! 🤗 4y
Librariana @JenlovesJT47 - It looks like he DID enjoy it as much as you did! I told him about it and he goes "Oh yeah, I've already listened to that. Let me check my Goodreads." Looks like he listened to it back in 2010 ?? 4y

• Day 21 of #KingAtoZ with the letter U for “UR.” I figure this entry is a little more “original” than the doorstopper “Under the Dome.” Unfortunately, I haven‘t read either 🤭 •

GarthRanzz UR I‘ve read but I‘ve yet to tackle Under the Dome. Some day. When I‘m not doing too many other books at the same time. 😊 6y

E is for e-reader - a Kindle from a parallel universe! I first read this story in its edited version in Bazaar of Bad Dreams. Reading works from well-known authors that don‘t exist in our timeline sound fascinating, right? That‘s not the only difference here, though - and there‘s a tie-in with other King stories to make it interesting.

GarthRanzz I remember this when it came out. I love the idea of parallel universe stories and authors. I‘m surprised no one has run with this yet for an anthology. Nice choice for E! 6y
CSeydel Wow, I‘d never heard of this one. Sounds intriguing! 6y

Meh squared. I'm sure that Amazon most likely approached King and said something like: "Mr. King, we'll pay you a ? load of money if you write an exclusive story featuring our most highly sought after new tech, the Kindle." (Fill in expletive as your sensitivities see fit). King obliged and this novella about an enchanted Kindle was born. Uninteresting and predictable I would pass. Unless you like writing derisive book reviews.

If you're a fan of Stephen King and haven't read this, please do. If you have read it you will have noticed many references to other novels that he has written - The Dark Tower, notably. I also feel there was a touch of 11.22.63 in there too with the time travel, but this time not only to the past but into the future. How he does it, I do not know. He is one talented guy.

I admit I am temperamental with my Stephen King reading. He is a bit verbose for me so I tend to do better with his short stories or shorter novels. This Kindle only short story (aptly about a bizarre pink Kindle) was excellent! King doing what King does best!

MrBook Nice, I want to read this now too 😊👍🏻. 8y

The first thing that struck me about this short was the complete lack of endless superfluous description that caused me to stop reading Stephen King years ago! It was a very refreshing read in that respect!

I loved the story and wish it had been a full length novel as I was left wanting more tales of UR!!

Pete The concept and execution of that story are creepy, especially when read on a second hand Kindle. 8y

callunakeep @DiruVamp You'll have to google for a synopsis, but this sounds good, and it is a novella so there can't be too many pages of unnecessary descriptions to skip over! 😝 8y
