Death in Brittany
Death in Brittany: A Mystery | Jean-Luc Bannalec

"Roll over, Maigret. Commissaire Dupin has arrived."M.C. Beaton Commissaire Georges Dupin, a cantankerous, Parisian-born caffeine junkie recently relocated from the glamour of Paris to the remote (if picturesque) Breton coast, is dragged from his morning croissant and coffee to the scene of a curious murder. The local village of Pont-Avena sleepy community by the sea where everyone knows one other and nothing much seems to happenis in shock. The legendary ninety-one-year-old hotelier Pierre-Louis Pennec, owner of the Central Hotel, has been found dead. A picture-perfect seaside village that played host to Gaugin in the nineteenth century, Pont-Aven is at the height of its tourist season and is immediately thrown into uproar. As Dupin delves into the lives of the victim and the suspects, he uncovers a web of secrecy and silence that belies the village's quaint image. A delectable read, Jean-Luc Bannalec's Death in Brittany transports readers to the French coast, where you can practically smell the sea air and taste the perfectly cooked steak frites in an expertly crafted, page-turning mystery for fans of Martin Walker.

I was as able to figure out who the murderer was before the end so it is not the greatest as a mystery but this is really a different type of cozy mystery. Inspector Dupin and Brittany and its eccentric characters and beautiful countryside are the real point of the book. Loved it and I am looking forward to reading the rest of the series

When I started reading this book, the name Dupin rang a bell... Then I remembered having started on mhzchoice a German TV series called Dupin, which is based on these books.
I wasn't seduced by the story, nor by the commissaire. The only things that I enjoyed in the plot were the art references. I probably won't be reading any other book in this series. I'll go on with the TV series, less time consuming, and a great way to practice my German.

The first book in Commisaire Dupin mystery series. Set in the wild and beautiful province of Brittany, the descriptions in the book are evocative. I enjoyed Dupin, who is quite different from Bruno , chief of police of St. Denis in southern France. A different but interesting character. Dupin is called to investigate the murder of the 91 year old hotelier in Aven. His hotel was the hub of the artist Gauguin and others in the 1880s. ⬇️

Crazeedi The case becomes more complex when another murder occurs. Thank you @kspenmoll for introducing me to Dupin! #SeriesRead @TheSpineView #stackingtheseries @audraelizabeth #AxeTheStacks @howjessicareads #BookSpinBingo @TheAromaofBooks 3y

The power is out with no estimated time of restoration so I can‘t wash the new floors (the storm has made it too dark to see well) so I‘ll sit by the one window giving enough light to read by and dig into this one!

JamieArc Our internet is out, and I work from home. I‘m not sad to get some extra reading done 😊 3y

##LetsTravelAugust #fair
“The Festival des Filets Bleus was a highly emotional affair for the Carcarnese. It was clearly the most important festival in the village, but it was also a shining symbol. The Concarnese were celebrating themselves: their ability to overcome the worst of times snd their ability to overcome hardships together.”
Now that Dupont solved the murders, this Breton festival or fair will not be shadowed by fear.

This mystery is marvelous on so many levels- the “cantankerous”Commissaire Dupin, who walks forests, seeks rivers, marvels at the Breton sea, meditatively seeking illumination about the case. The sensory descriptions make one viscerally see, feel,& smell nature.A Gauguin painting from the time of the Pont-Aven School painters successfully blend art, murder,& mayhem into 5⭐️ read.

Poe took my pillow in today‘s reading spot.#catsoflitsy

Eyelit As cats do. 😹 I got up yesterday to get a quick drink of water and was gone for maybe 10 seconds, when I walked back both cats were in my vacated spot (despite one of them being in the other room at the time I got up) 😂 5y

kspenmoll @Myhusbandhatesreading Our cats were rescues- the woman who fostered them was a high school English teacher & we loved the names she gave them- Edgar Allan Poe & Emily Dickinson. ❤️❤️💚 5y
