“What is a Victorian lady's formula for love? Mix one brilliant noblewoman and her enigmatic protection officer. Add in a measure of danger and attraction. Heat over the warmth of humor and friendship, and the result is more than simple chemistry—it's elemental.”

I needed 3 extra books to finish off my February TBR and when i saw these at the top of the list on Libby, i just had to give this series a try, which im glad i did cause i absolutely loved this one thought it was a cute and enjoyable Victorian Era Historical Romance Series. The Characters were so interesting and entertaining to read about, Violet was definately my favorite.

I picked this up because I needed something fun and light to read. A historical romance set in the 1800s. Violet is a widow who runs a secret science society next door to her house for women. It‘s obviously a huge scandal because how dare women have a group of their own. Violet is helping the government and someone is trying to scare her. Her son in law hires a bodyguard and sparks fly. It‘s more about the romance but I guessed the bad guy.

Here are my choices, with a caveat. I don‘t know how to tell if books are explicit or not.

2 of these were also on Bianca‘s list but I had already made my graphic and I‘m lazy 🤷🏻‍♀️

4 of them are definitely romances and should have happy endings. I don‘t know about the other 2, but they say they have romance in them.

I‘ll tag them all below.

Allylu I like The Wisteria Society of Lady Scoundrels the best, and The Lady‘s Formula for Love second. I‘ve already read Summer Country, but none of the others. 3y
dylanisreading I love that we have two of the same books on our lists! I'm going with Rosaline Palmer from my list so Evvie Drake would be my first choice from yours, but I'm down to read a historical if that's what you feel like. 3y
TheAromaofBooks I'm fine with any of these!!! As far as explicit content goes... I'm mostly just hoping to have books where that isn't the main plot point haha I don't mind it when there are just some scenes that I have to skim through; that's not a big deal to me. Anyway, I'm rather drawn to The Wisteria Society just because that cover is fantastic, but I'm cool with any of these!! 3y
Laughterhp Okay, I‘ll go with The Wisteria Society since 2 out of 3 picked it and Bianca said she was fine with any! Based on the description sex does not appear to be the main plot point! 😊 @TheAromaofBooks @Bianca @Allylu 3y
dylanisreading @Laughterhp Yay! I've heard good things about that one. 3y

85 of 2021. Violet Hughes is a widow living in Victorian London. Her love of science motivated her to start a secret club for women who shared her interest so they could perform experiments. Someone begins to sabotage the group which spurs her stepson to hire security to protect Violet and identify the culprit. It was a fun mystery that made me laugh. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Mehso-so

The idea was fun and different- a group of women starting a lady‘s club to secretly work on their scientific experiments and discoveries. Arthur is hired as a bodyguard to protect Violet from someone that‘s out to stop her research.

The romance was sweet in its awkwardness. The mystery was convoluted. There were so many characters and many were flat. I wasn‘t shocked at the “villain” but I also hadn‘t guessed who it was in particular.

Debut novel.

A secret society of female scientists. The head scientist is in danger and her stepson gets her a bodyguard. The chemistry is strong between them.

A few too many secondary characters for my liking, but the series has potential.

Between Pick and So-So.

Cute concept - Victorian era bodyguard romance between a widowed scientist who runs a secret female science society and the man assigned to protect her - but overall pretty poor execution. The romance itself was good, but the external plot was underdeveloped and there were too many side characters that didn't add much to the story. It's supposed to be first in a series but I can't think of a single other character I want to know more about.
