As typical Elizabeth George, Lynley, Haversian, Nkata, Deborah & Simon are all part of the story - and quite the journey does this story take you. But, can I just say I wouldn‘t mind a spin-off just Barbara Havers and her personal life? Lo Bianco does make an appearance or two…
pickNever have almost 700 pages sped by so fast! A fascinating, multifaceted mystery featuring the Inspector Lynley cohort. As often happens with these books, there‘s a topical element at the heart of the story, in this case female genital multinational, which is handled very sensitively. The plot moves along, lots of interesting characters, and a couple red herrings. In an up-and-down series, this is way up.
I made a library visit today, and came home with this #chunkster among my #libraryhaul. Forget the book I started yesterday—I‘m already 70 pages in.
pickElizabeth George‘s latest requires a bit of an effort as it clocks in at 691 pages, but it‘s a quick read, and we‘ll worth the time. With her usual high commitment to research, George presents us with a story, and a murder, that revolve around the horrific practice of female genital mutilation (FMG). We meet the Bankhole family, one of whom wants 8 year old Simi to be “made pure” for her future husband. Bad good guys, and good bad guys abound.

so-soI‘ve read everything Elizabeth George has written, but her last few books have left me feeling kind of meh. This one is about Nigerians in London and clocks in at nearly 700 pages. It‘s a slog to find out whodunnit, and I wish there had been more about Detective Lynley and his crew, rather than the Nigerians.

This was hard to read at times, the topic, FGM & it‘s practice in England specifically, is a very emotional subject but the author handles it extremely well. Heading into the last hours of #JoyousJanuary #readathon and I‘m about a third of the way through the new Inspector Lynley. I‘m finding it hard to read a bit because it‘s about such an awful topic, FGM. There‘s intertwining stories, one about a young man trying to protect his little sister, another about a DS who is murdered & her involvement in bringing people involved in FGM to justice. Such a sad subject😢 #JumpStart2022
