I liked the story better than the first book: the series characters are more established and there is no « character with mental illness off their meds who commits a murder », which I had a problem with in the first book. However, the actual corrupt cop at the heart of the scheme was kind of immaterial to the main plotline, so the ending was a bit flat in that regard. So a soft pick.

Mehso-so

#unpopularopinion I didn‘t love this. I didn‘t connect to Craigie or his coworkers and I did not care for the resolution. I loved the audiobook narrator‘s voice, but this may be something that works better in print. I may also just need a break from crime procedurals. Reading the McIlvanney Longlist is draining. 😂

The second book featuring DS Max Craigie. A fisherman goes missing without a trace and a terrified young man jumps off a bridge to his death; both events seem connected and Craigie is determined to find out how. This a wonderful police procedural set in Scotland. The banter between Craigie and his team is well done. I will definitely go back and read the first book. Thanks to HQ Stories and NetGalley for a copy in exchange for an honest review.

This is the 2nd book in the Max Craigie Scottish Crime series. Max Craigie, Janie Calder and Ross Fraser are the main police characters back again. It's best to start with Book 1 to get the background on these characters. Tom Hardie was arrested and was sent to prison in book 1. He is plotting and planning to get back at Max. Tom is also heavy into dealing his drugs from his prison cell.

EadieB A fisherman goes missing, a young man jumps from a bridge and commits suicide and a Police Constable is murdered. Are these events related? When Tom escapes from prison is Max's life in jeopardy? Is there a traitor in the police department? The plot is gripping and twists and turns kept the pages turning. The author's descriptions of Scottish scenery make you feel like you are actually there. 2y
EadieB The dialogue between characters felt very real to me. I will definitely continue with this series in the future. If you like mystery thrillers set in Scotland then I'm sure you will enjoy this one. I would like to thank NetGalley and Harper Collins HQ for a copy of the ebook for an honest review. #TheBloodTide #NeilLancaster #FabulousFebruary #Readathon #BookSpinBingo 2y

This is book 2 in the DS Max Craigie series set in Scotland. I loved the first book.

The books starts off with a fisherman disappearing without a trace in the North of Scotland, and another man throwing himself off a bridge to his death. Both do not seem related but Max soon identifies connections, and as the investigation continues it seems to link to his nemesis who is currently residing in prison due to Max.

Andrew65 This is another pulsating and fast moving book with plenty of action, great characters and a certain amount of tension which is maintained throughout the book This keeps up the really high standard of the first book and has a great central character who works his way into your affection, being set in Scotland only adds to the attraction for me. 2y
Andrew65 I would certainly strongly recommend this book to those that love crime fiction with great plotting, great characters and pulsating action. I can‘t wait for book 3! 2y

A bit late but here goes.

THE RIB CHUGGED steadily, its engine low, as it nosed into Loch Torridon.
