Im going to kill her. Youd better come if you want to save her. LorraineRainylives at the top of Tiger Mountain. Remote, moody, cloistered in pine trees and fog, its a sanctuary, a new life. She can hide from the disturbing past she wants to forget. If shes allowed to. When Rainy reluctantly agrees to a girls weekend in Vegas, shes prepared for an exhausting parade of shots and slot machines. But after a wild night, her friend Braithe doesnt come back to the hotel room. And then Rainy gets the text message, sent from Braithes phone: someone has her. But Rainy is who they really want, and Rainy knows why. What follows is a twisted, shocking journey on the knife-edge of life and death. If she wants to save Braitheand herselfthe only way is to step back into the past. This seething, gut-punch of a thriller can only have sprung from the fiendish brain of Tarryn Fisher, one of the most cunning writers of our time. Looking for more great reads by Tarryn Fisher? A dual timeline thriller about a woman who escapes a cult. A decent storyline, but I get frustrated when women make stupid decisions- luckily this one didn‘t have too many bimbos. Lots of drama and some good female badassery at the end, 3.5 stars for me! Book #80 in 2023

This is an unsuccessful dual timeline.

While the earlier timeline is fairly interesting, the characters are weak and make stupid decisions throughout, the latter timelime is ridiculous and you have to wonder how this author views women as while they are a little bit more clever, they are shallow and literally only care about playing truth or dare (these woman are in their 30's).

I don't see the point of this book.

3/5 ?
I wanted to like this soooo badly. Unfortunately, it was just "meh" for me, though. I didn't find the storyline all that unique. I found the beginning somewhat promising but disjointed from the rest of the story. ?‍♀️

This was not my favorite… it was twisty but I was left wanting more… I felt that the ending was rushed and not all that satisfying.

Not sure what it was, but the cult story really drew me in. However, about half way through, I no longer really cared about Summer's story, but instead cared about Rainy's.
After reading The Wives, I expected some big twist, but didn't really get that here.
⭐️⭐️⭐️ I liked this more than some other books I have given 3 stars, but not as much as any of the 4's. So... I guess ratings are dumb.

This was a quick read. I enjoyed this one with its twists and turns, but found that it lagged a little bit towards the end. I also didn‘t really love how the book ended, but still feel it warrants a read.

Fisher creates an intriguing story without making the reader feel frustrated with a lack of information. A deep dive into the danger of cults and what happens when you are viewed as prey.

This was a soft pick for me. I am actually pretty disappointed because I've really loved some of Fisher's other work but this one fell short. There was no action and no build up, I also don't think it all made sense... Just not my favorite book from this author. ⭐⭐⭐

4.25 stars- I enjoyed this one a lot more than The Wives. I found the MC more likable. The narrator was very good. I thought the plot and character development were very well done.

May 22, 2022 Not sure whether I like this book. It has been kind of boring and tough to start. Has anyone else read this book? How did you read the book (in sections or in one sitting)? Might start another book and come back to it

Book 77🎧 3.5⭐️

Wild but not too wild, I found. One of Raineys friends gets kidnapped on a girls weekend away! And someone‘s playing games🎲

& it gets cult-y😬

I love Tarryn Fisher, and Marrow is one of my all-time favorites. I also usually like books dealing with cults. So…I wanted to like this…and I should have liked this, but sadly, it was just okay for me. Suffice it to say, that it was a lot of little things throughout that added up to me not really being into it. Since she is fav author of mine, I did bump it up.

Her name was Summer during her childhood, and she changed her name to Rainy as an adult.

AN HONEST LIE is very intense, dark, and chilling.

Be aware that a cult and disturbing situations are in this book.

Well written and definitely for those who enjoy thrillers, tension, and an evil male character. 4/5

EadieB Does Rainy need to step back into the past in order to save Braithe? Are the girls that Rainy meets really her friend? This is a heart-pounding and suspense-filled plot that started out slow but heated up and kept me turning pages until the very end. The timeline switches back and forth between now and then. There were a few twists that I didn't see coming but only enhanced the story. 2y
EadieB If you like psychological thrillers then I am sure you will like this one. I would like to thank Harlequin Trade Publishing, Graydon House and NetGalley for a copy for an honest review. To be published 4/26/22. 2y

I‘m not in the habit of reading too many thrillers lately but maybe I should be. Told in flashbacks from the vantage point of Rainy Ives, who has returned to the doorstep of the setting of her greatest trauma to enjoy a girls‘ weekend with friends in Vegas, An Honest Lie is a twisted thriller full of grown-up mean girls and charismatic cult leaders, all of which Rainy has to learn to face down to survive. Really enjoyed this unputdownable book!
