Murder Before Evensong: A Canon Clement Mystery | The Reverend Richard Coles
6 posts | 5 read | 6 to read
"I've been waiting for a novel with vicars, rude old ladies, murder and sausage dogs... et voila!" Dawn French This first in a new series is a charming, warm and witty tale of secrets and murder set among the parishioners of a quaint English village. The No.1 Sunday Times bestselling crime novel, perfect for fans of Richard Osmans The Thursday Murder Club series. 'Whodunnit fans can give praise and rejoice' IAN RANKIN Canon Daniel Clement is Rector of Champton. He has been there for eight years, living at the Rectory alongside his widowed motheropinionated, fearless, ever-so-slightly annoying Audreyand his two dachshunds, Cosmo and Hilda. When Daniel announces a plan to install a lavatory in church, the parish is suddenly (and unexpectedly) divided: as lines are drawn, long-buried secrets come dangerously close to destroying the apparent calm of the village. And then Anthony Bownesscousin to Bernard de Floures, patron of Champtonis found dead at the back of the church, stabbed in the neck with a pair of pruning shears. As the police moves in and the bodies start piling up, Daniel is the only one who can try and keep his fractured community together... and catch a killer. A delightful, cosy murder mystery with a sharp edge from the bestselling author.

@KarenUK really SOLD this book in her enthusiastic review which had me stacking SO FAST but truthfully this book really isn‘t in my wheelhouse. It‘s such a cozy -,full of British humor and English references that were totally lost on me. I can see it‘s appeal but #RightBookWrongReader 🤷🏼‍♀️ Thank you @squirrelbrain for gifting me this book 🩷 xx

squirrelbrain Sorry it was not what you hoped for. You‘ll have to move to a little English village, maybe! 🤣 1y
Cinfhen Yes….definitely @squirrelbrain I kept thinking that 😂😂😂 1y

I just saw Richard Coles. Which is obviously unusual, but made even more so by the fact we are up a Volcano. In Italy! I didn‘t want to disturb his vacation so didn‘t stop him.

LeeRHarry I follow him on Twitter and knew he was in Italy - how funny! 😊 2y
squirrelbrain How bizarre! 🤪 2y

The first in a series with the Canon Clement solving crime in his very sleep town/village. It's another cosy mystery and I enjoyed it and can see myself reading the next one.

The coziest of cozies…. Made me giggle, gave me Midsomer murders meets Miss Marple meets Thursday Murder club vibes… And written by the only British clergyman to have had a number one hit single. A fun palette cleanser… and such cute endpapers of Cosmo and Hilda, our hero‘s faithful pups. 😍 #pop23 #containsamap #bn2023challenge #cozymystery #52bookclub2023 #adedication
