Adelaide was the hottest city in the world today with near 43c. Needless to say I didn‘t set foot outside, cancelled anything I needed to do and anyone who normally comes in a Wednesday….

I read and read and slept and read some more, managing to finish the last 85 pages of this book.

Was it enjoyable…yes. Brilliant? Not really. I‘d give it 3/5 star.

Now to wait for the cool change to come in tonight and jump back into So Thirsty.

My beautiful reading companion… who insists I should be patting her and paying her homage rather then reading!

The holidays have legends from all around the world, and many of them are pretty terrifying! Enter the "Scary Book of Christmas Lore", a history of Christmas-time tales from around the world. From the well known Krampus and Yule Cat to lesser known tales from Japan and South Africa, this comprehensive volume shows us how many of these tales have developed over time and space. It's a fun holiday read for sure!

All in all I found this book a little misleading and was hoping for more of the “terror” in the “50 Terrifying Yuletide Tales from Around the World” cover description. It was fairly repetitive, but if you think of it as an introduction to winter/yule lore it‘s not a bad book. There are 50 entries, many with an illustration but they‘re all a broad summary lacking many details.

Manage your expectations if you decide to pick up this book. You won't find enchanting storytelling of Yuletife folk horrors to share around the fire nor will you find a thorough encyclopedia. You'll have to look elsewhere, as there is not even a bibliography. Instead, you'll read brief explanations and histories of these traditions.

I am a creepy but bright and shiny festive person around Christmas. I just started a Krampus/christmas/yule tattoo sleeve. Super pumped - but I also love the bright and shiny happy parts of Christmas too!

Okay I admit I like a creepier Christmas than most and personally I prefer to celebrate the Winter Solstice with lots of music. I think The Black Parade works as a Christmas album 🖤
