What a fun magical heist novel! A thief immune to magic gets hired to steal a box that everyone wants but no one knows what it does! Squidapus loved the tone and humor of the novel as it always keeps things light in even the heaviest of situations. Occasionally the novel has "Joss Whedon" problem where the dialogue can become too clever and thus it stops being funny or cute. When it hits that right level tho it's hard to read it without smiling

TobeyTheScavengerMonk Got this in an Audible sale an age ago. Glad to know it‘s fun! Joss Problem. Heh. 5y

After super serious and drastic space politics it's time to relax with a nice comedic book about trying to steal a box that can cause the Apocalypse. Maybe? We're not sure what it does. Squidapus liked the voice already so that's a good sign.

So I‘ve been on Litsy since almost the beginning. 3 years!!!! Back in the day there wasn‘t a who to follow list really so I just kind of searched for people by the letter of the alphabet. 🤣 There also wasn‘t a #litsywelcomewagon or anything so it was just sink or swim. My first post was the tagged book. I had to scroll a few posts up to find any likes/conversations.
#firstlike

Texreader I remember those days! I was so particular about who I wanted to follow: that they would like the same books as me! Ha! I‘m so glad so many Littens have expanded my reading horizons! 5y
LibrarianJen @Texreader I was the same, except I was also embarrassed that I liked YA and erotica both so I tried not to post about it because I wanted street cred. I quickly learned that it is totally acceptable to like those genres and talk about them! Plus I‘m not the type who cares about the whole Litfluence system. I too have read quite a few books because of Litsy that I generally would have never even looked at. 💖 5y

Wow, that was . . . active . . . chaotic . . . noisy! Think anything Douglas Adams or Good Omens by Gaiman & Pratchett. I picked this because its interesting-looking sequel was in a stack posted by one of my library‘s teen interns. This was my on-deck book Monday when I finished Eligible on the train. I didn‘t really get into it at first, but it grew on me. Fun enough.

Rarely do I read heist novels, but I couldn't be happier that I picked this one up. I haven't laughed this hard while reading a book since "Master of Space and Time" by Rudy Rucker... tears and side aches. Ghosts, monsters, angels, demons, booze, and a whole lot of thievery!

A boisterous paranormal heist which moves at a fairly brisk pace. Fun and not what I expected. A pleasant diversion from other things.

An angel charged w/destroying the last survivors of The Great Flood, loses the instrument that was to have done the trick... 4000 years later, a pro thief working in "today's" paranormal reality gets busted... I picked this up today because it looked like a fast, funny read; but five chapters/30 pages in, I can tell this isn't for me. If you're a fan of Christopher Moore's style of comic fantasy, this is perfect. For you.

4 - Didn't Like but Finished

While "The Regional Office..." helped articulate my frustrations with "wry-fantasy" - my term for that brand of sci-fi/fantasy that prioretizes attitude over effective world-building - this one, with its utter disintrest if not disdain for characterization, was the killing blow for my patience with the genre.

3.5 stars out of 5; it reminded me of a mash-up of the Sci-Fy channel paranormal shows and Supernatural; it kept my interest and will probably check out other books.

Ah, now I see why everyone was raving about this book! A delightfully silly, dark, fun ride.

The only quibble I have (and I'm not sure if this is editorial oversight or supposed to show this isn't our world): the Titanic went the other direction. This wasn't a major plot point, but it was a large enough thing to bounce me out of the story for a bit.

#TBRtemptation post! I like the cover, it stands out 😊! The author of the Sandman Slim series starts another one with this. Okay, so, in 2000 BC an angel was supposed to kill off Noah & his family, but loses the device that's supposed to do so. In 2015, a thief of magical objects, Coop, finds a mysterious box for a mysterious client. The Department of Peculiar Science says it's a doomsday tool. All hell breaks loose! #blameLitsy #blameMrBook 😎

vivastory I enjoyed this one. Second book in the series will be released in a few months. 7y

A cross between the zany imagination of Douglas Adams & the humorous banter of Christopher Moore. The characters are enjoyable and the central characters interesting enough for future entries. It doesn't do anything new in terms of plot, however it does it well and is entertaining until the end.

"What I want to leave you with is a thought: with all the wonders of the world at your disposal, the one thing you shouldn't be is boring."

Written in the tune of #GoodOmens and with a voice similar to #TerryPratchett, Richard Kadrey takes us on a whirlwind ride of apocalyptic proportions. It wasn't bad, but it got repetitive.

Feeling conflicted. I haven't read any of this for a few days. There is a lot I like about the book so far but every time I pick it up I decide to read something else. Might just be a timing thing. I'm not ready to call it a bail but I've lost interest.

Struggling to get through the 2/3 of this. I like the story but if feels like more pithy remarks than substance at this point. The pulp factor is a little high so I'm pushing forward hoping it's all building a good payoff.

A little over half way through and this book is a lot of fun! I have to say, though, I am not sure I would be enjoying it as much if I were reading it on page instead of having it read to me. The narrator captures all of the sarcasm and dry humor with perfect inflection! This book is a riot!

"You are all awful. God is sick of you. And, you should, what was it, say your last prayers, beg for forgiveness and prepare to die horribly." God's message to humanity after the flood, relayed by the Angel of Office Supplies, who was then punched by a human. Think I am going to LOVE this book!

Just starting this one. I'm a huge Christopher Moore (new book when?) fan and HE liked it so I'm hoping for good things. So far it's kind of like Ocean's 11 meets Supernatural...yes I think that's the perfect way to describe it.
