12 posts | 49 read | 21 to read
In 1983, Anne Rice, writing as A.N. Roquelaure, began the first installment of a series that is now considered a forerunner of erotic literature. This boxed set, containing the books The Claiming of Sleeping Beauty, Beautys Punishment, and Beautys Release is a testament to Anne Rices irresistible talent. Bought because of the Anne Rice name but I'm unsure if I'll even like these, some people say they're good, some people say they're trash; has anyone read them from here? Any good?

MidnightBookGirl So I read them over 20 years ago... I don't think I made it through book 2 though. Erotica isn't my usual genre, and the trilogy has a lot of stuff that wasn't my jam, but I definitely know people that like this series. And I love books that are trash to other people, so don't let that stop you! 4y
TheNeverendingTBR @MidnightBookGirl I appreciate the feedback! 👌 4y
Ruthiella Sometimes trash is entertaining! I‘ve only read the first three of her Vampire chronicles. 4y

TheNeverendingTBR @Ruthiella I guess so 😁 I've not read the Vampire chronicles but I guess I'll check them out at some point, did you enjoy them? 4y
Ruthiella @TheNeverendingTBR I read them in the 80s and 90s so I‘m not sure how I would feel about them now, but I remember really loving the first book. The second was good but the third lost steam for me. 4y
Reggie I read book 1 and it‘s bdsm erotica. Meh. 4y

I decided I wanted a romance novel, opened my Kobo and remembered I bought this ages ago. Read Anne Rice‘s author‘s note/introduction from 2012, and she mentioned my absolute favorite of her novels, Cry to Heaven, which made me want to reread that. Now, I can‘t make up my mind and am frozen in indecision. #firstworldproblems #toomanychoices #whichAnnedoIread #maybeIwillrereadInterviewWithAVampire #ormaybeishouldjustgotobed 🤯

LibrarianRyan I love the sleeping beauty series. They are very sexually graphic. 5y
OrangeMooseReads Yes the Sleeping Beauty trilogy has some series graphic sex. It is good though. 5y
DGRachel @LibrarianRyan @OrangeMooseReads That‘s the reason I‘m hesitant. I read romance novels, and some of them have had a racy scene or two, but I‘m not sure I would be comfortable with the level of detail in these stories. 😳🙈 5y
OrangeMooseReads @DGRachel you can always give it a try and if it‘s too much bail. This trilogy isn‘t everyone‘s cup of tea. 5y

Finally read this trilogy. It's very hot, taboo, dark and very erotic. Such an interesting take on the Sleeping Beauty fairytale.

Owlizabeth I only made it halfway through the first one, it was a bit too rapey for me. 6y
LibrarianRyan I too enjoyed this series. There is a rumor she is writing a forth book. 6y
LadyRuthven @LibrarianRyan yes! I'm excited to read it. Anne Rice has always been such a great writer and I love how she always pushing the envelope with it. 6y
toofondofbooks I love her vampire and witches books but I had to quickly put this one down. Way too out there for me lol 6y

1. About twenty-five years ago, I read the Sleeping Beauty series by Anne Rice. I still feel guilty. Catholic School does that to a person.
2. I don‘t watch many movies. 🤔

Bookladylinda Ohhh Culver‘s! 6y
Betty Odd, when Culver's opened here, I found I didn't like the butter burgers as much as I did up in Mich and Wisc. Maybe too greasy here? 6y
PirateJenny You know a new Beauty book came out a few years ago, right? 6y

Suzze @PirateJenny I‘m not sure I could read another one. But I am going to check on it. Thanks. 6y
Suzze @PirateJenny Hahahaha. I just looked and I read it as an advance copy. Must not have made much of an impression on me. 🤣 6y

I kind of hate read this lol. I was completely shocked by the outright rape and torture being completely excepted and even sought after. That people wanted to be “pleasure slaves” is insane. I kept reading cause I had to see what happened and if any of it would make sense. I‘ve never ever read anything like it that‘s for sure. I must say it‘s really fun to read with your significant other ☺️.

Caroline2 I found it quite shocking too! 😳 must admit, I bailed in the end! The weird kinky torture was a bit much for me! 🙈 7y
TofuandBooks I almost did too 😄. What killed me was how they were upset to leave, I‘m like what?! What am I seriously reading? 7y

#FunFridayPhoto of my first adult reading experience. My Mum had a box set done in pastels with flowered vines all over it matching the decor of my parents master suite and being the bookdragon I am, I read them...at 10. She was mortified and they quickly disappeared. I later used these to write a Master's thesis on linguistics in Erotica. 💋❤️

Riveted_Reader_Melissa Great story! 8y
BarbaraTheBibliophage Oh boy - what an introduction you received! 8y
jester1669 Wonderfully colorful story. I imagine at 10 you had many unanswered questions. Must have lead to quite the thesis. 7y

Great books. For all those fifty shades of grey lovers out there, read a real book about S&M. Loved these books since I was 18. Beautiful story.
