so-soI had this weird sense of deja vu multiple times while reading this, like I had read the same passages or subplots somewhere else. It made me feel like many of the ideas had been done before.
While I found this on a whole entertaining, the ending, with the constant this is whodunnit, no! this is whodunnit, etc, got a little silly and made it less serious.

Just the right amount of secrets, twists and romance in this family thriller!😱
so-soMaybe I don‘t like thrillers that take place in an isolated setting, but for me this one really didn‘t have a mystery to it. In the description of the book it says that she finds a picture of herself as a child in one of the cabins, so clearly she was there as a child & some people in the family know something. The characters not being developed well enough also annoyed me. It had its moments of suspense but overall was an average read at best.

•Kate Alice Marshall has become an auto-read author for me because she never disappoints. This one wasn‘t without its issues but overall I was still engaged. Bonus factor: she always has Karissa Vacker narrate her books and she is one of my favorites.

An interesting mystery thriller that kept me on the edge of my seat. It was predicable but even if it was it was still an enjoyable read.

January's wrap-up. I tried to catch up on my BOTM books and am now in the middle of my annual comfort reread of Twilight. Also finished my first #AuldLangSpine and am halfway through my 2nd one.
so-soI‘ve read and liked this author before, but this one isn‘t at good. There are too many clunky attempts at tension-building early on and the end gets so twisted up it‘s just silly. I did keep turning the pages, though.
pickI really enjoyed this thriller. There were a lot of twists and turns as the story progressed. I also enjoyed the atmosphere Marshall created along with the pacing. Themes of family, loyalty, and trust were explored. Marshall stands on her own long side Alice Feeney, Lucy Foley, and Ruth Ware. I had an ALC from NetGalley. The book comes out Feb. 4. 5 stars
pickI‘ve loved Marshall‘s adult thrillers, & was all the more excited to see this as a January #BOTM pick! It‘s a solidly performed #audiobook that had me doing extra laundry & chores to quickly finish. Adopted at a young age, Theo‘s Before life is a mystery only hinted at in her nightmares but when her fiancé takes her to the family‘s isolated mountain estate, she starts to feel like she has been there before… a gripping listen with plenty of twists!
