This was my first Cat Sebastian and I loved it! This was a great historical romance with a great detective plot and well written characters, I can‘t wait to read more. Love Cat‘s writing style too 💫

I see this kind of covers everywhere nowadays. Seems to be mucho popular. I‘ve never even given these books a second look. So, a question to the ones reading these, what are these all about? The covers put me off, they just look so not for me. Not trying to shame anyone for reading these. Trying to figure out if I‘m missing out. But, the covers are just too trashy 🤷🏽‍♂️ Do these books have real content?

dylanisreading What do you mean by real content? They're historical romance novels. Both Cat Sebastian and Beverly Jenkins are exceptional writers and storytellers. These particular kinds of covers (the two leads holding each other and engaging with each other) are called clinch covers. There's a long history of them in the romance genre. 🙂 4y
Tove_Reads @Bianca Cool! This is exactly what I didn‘t know. I don‘t read that much romance. These covers just keep on showing up everywhere, so I figured they most be popular books. Sometimes covers give a totally different idea. I‘ve always thought these are more fluff, but good to know I was wrong! 4y

"Honor was a luxury item, like hair pomade and snuff. Its only purpose was to show the world that you could afford to be impractical, that you had enough money to behave in a way that was compatible with some ludicrous code instead of acting out of self-preservation like the rest of humanity."

#12booksof2020 Day 10

The tagged book is the first in Cat Sebastian‘s Turner series. I ended up reading the whole series in 2020, including a novella and short story.

This was my first Cat Sebastian book and I‘m so glad I picked it up. Oliver is returned from war and wants peace and sees the law as black and white after the horrors he‘s been through. Jack, on the other hand, lives in that gray world with his job. Seeing these two develop a relationship with everything in their way - laws, class hierarchy among other thing- was so good. The mystery just added to the book.

Getting my car inspected and rereading this M/M romance novel. Luckily it‘s engrossing enough to drown out the Faux News playing in the background.

It‘s Day 21 of the @bookriot #Riotgrams Challenge! Today‘s prompt: clinch covers! Clinch covers, as I understand it, are covers featuring people in a sexy embrace. But I am also excited for the new Jon Clinch, so I included that too. 😝

I wasn‘t lying when I said I was going to read all of the Cat Sebastian I could get my grubby hands on!

This one was fantastic. I‘m not super into M/M romance, but this book may have changed my mind. A sweet, steamy romance, a detective story, a study on class and social stratification- so many elements that come together beautifully. I was so pleasantly surprised. I‘m going to dive into the next book in the series now. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

BookwormAHN I really enjoyed this book too 💙 5y

I found plenty to like with this one: one of the protagonists is disabled, but doesn't allow it to define him. The fact that the characters experience an immediate physical attraction, but their romance is more of a slow burn struck me as very realistic to the period. I also enjoyed the mystery aspect- it gave the characters something to do and helped move the plot along. I'll definitely be reading more by this author. #queerbooks

TsundokuAleax I keep seeing this one and a few others. Now that reviews are starting to show up on my feed, I may finally give them a go. 6y

You guys, if you've never read this author, you should! This story was funny, heart-melting, charming and amazingly well-written. Jack was all the things Oliver shouldn't want yet he was everything he needed. Definitely a pick.

Cat Sebastian is soooooo good at chemistry. It's always obvious why her leads are attracted to one another--and why they feel like their relationship is doomed. (Totally guessable spoiler: not so much.) She delivers a compelling mystery alongside the romance, too, with a healthy consideration of the law vs justice issue. I loved it. #romantsy

My first book of #glbtbookmonth is also one of my #ReadHarder challenge books for LGBT romance. It was a little slow in the beginning but ended up being fun and really sweet. I think I might read the other two books in this series, too. #ReadwithPride 🏳️‍🌈

Delightful seems to be my word of choice for these books. I liked The Lawrence Browne Affair slightly better, but that's my personal preference for the tropes/plots/characters (reclusive scientist yes please), not any failing of The Soldier's Scoundrel. A fun and fast good read. Looking forward to Sebastian's next book!

Jack has worked hard to get where he is. Having been a valet and now a "fixer" for the gentry he is satisfied with his life. Enter Oliver, a nobleman who is the exact opposite.

Now reading an ARC of The Lawrence Browne Affair by Cat Sebastian. Litsy doesn't have it in their database yet (I put in a request), so I linked to her first book. I adored that book, so have high hopes for this one. Also, I ❤️ the cover.

candyflossramparts I like the cover in this one so much more than the first book. It reminds me of the UK versions of the Hoyt romances...not so ab-centric. 8y

This was a really fun debut book from Ms. Sebastian. I was pleased by the mystery aspect and enjoyed the blossoming romance between Oliver and Jack. It was hot and sweet with plenty of light, funny moments. As a junkie for queer historical romances who never gets her fill, I'm thrilled to have a new author to watch.

Clever writing and a beautiful love story, I couldn't help but laugh out loud and sigh with pleasure at the witty banter and wry thoughts of these characters. The mystery and plot kept me interested right through to the end, no sagging middle here. I cannot wait to read Georgie's story in February.

So excited for this M/M historical romance from Avon. In an age where fanfiction is a thing openly acknowledged, that LGBTQ romance is still underserved by mainstream publishers is a real bummer and also head scratcher.

This is the first true m/m romance I've read. Jack (ex-thief turned private-eye) and Oliver (wounded, aristocratic ex-military) are pretty adorable together. It's an interesting shift in the dynamic, to remove built-in m/f gender differences and use class differences to build tension. This isn't a perfect book - there are leaps in plot that feel rough & it could push the examination of class a little more - but it is a delightful romance to read.

balletbookworm As described, I kept picturing Jack as Aiden Turner (in Poldark mode) and Oliver as Tom Hiddleston (from way back when he was still a blonde and appearing as a very young cop in Wallander) 8y
balletbookworm Addendum: this is currently 1.99$ to pre-order in ebook (out 9/20) so you'll want to do that 😉 8y

I really hope the "nonsense" is Oliver Twist, what with the "soldier" being named Oliver and his "scoundrel" being a thief-turned-private eye (of sorts).

balletbookworm Shenanigans, it's not Oliver Twist. I just did the math and this book is set about 2yrs after the Battle of Waterloo (approx 1817, well before Dickens was publishing). 8y
MelodySchreiber Tom Sawyer? 8y
balletbookworm @m_scribe nope, that's 1870s. I'm sure the description could apply to almost any Regency/pre-Regency gothic novel, there's almost always an orphan 8y
