Eva Nine was raised by the robot Muthr. But when a marauder destroys the underground sanctuary she called home, twelve-year-old Eva is forced to flee aboveground. Eva Nine is searching for anyone else like her. She knows that other humans exist because of a very special item she treasures ~ a scrap of cardboard on which is depicted a young girl, an adult, and a robot along with the strange word "WondLa". Tony DiTerlizzi honours traditional children's literature in this totally original space age adventure: one that is as complex as an alien planet, but as simple as a child's wish for a place to belong.

Books seen in the wild. I was with my brother in a bookstore today and spied this trilogy. I listened to the audio version a while back and absolutely loved it. I might have to get them in this version though. They had lots of great pictures throughout. I do have a granddaughter I need to (gently) mold into a reader eventually after all.

The first book in The WondLa Trilogy, a highly imaginative middle-grade space opera written and gorgeously illustrated by Tony DiTerlizzi. I first read this trilogy on e-book, but this time I got a paperback box set so I could fully enjoy the artwork. The cast of memorable human and alien characters populates a world that is both fantastical and believable, and the plot is an enticing blend of suspense, heartbreak, and wonder.🔸#junereads2021

Another fantastic read! I'm not usually a fan of sci-fi, but this was such a wonderful story, full of endearing characters and a great mystery 📚 Not to mention the gorgeous illustrations by the author 😍 I'm looking forward to the other books in the series!

@TheAromaofBooks This was number 16 for the August #bookspin 😊 Thank you for letting me share my review so late!! 😅

I‘m a day behind 😅
1. This (tagged) book was lovely. I can‘t remember the details too well since I read it so long ago, but it‘s definitely worth a re-read!
2. I haven‘t decorated this year, but I would love a Nightmare Before Christmas themed porch. 😊
3. When I was a kid, I was terrified of The Nightmare Before Christmas and never able to finish it. Hubby convinced me to try again when we were dating, and I loved it. It‘s our tradition now. 🥰

Eggs Sounds like a great theme for decor💀🕷🎃. Thanks for playing 🍁🧡👏🏻 4y

For tonight, I'll be continuing on my *increasingly frantic* journey to re-read all of Shannara before the final book comes out in October and making more progress in my #bookspin for this month, which I'm really enjoying!

This is my current selection. Mostly I'm trying to get through The Stand. I have Gemina on deck for some YA relief and WondLa for a nice Middle grade break (haven't started either of those yet though). I also have my Kindle loaded up with some great fantasy/Scifi picks if the mood strikes. Of course there are a shwack of comic books kicking around too.

⬇️⬇️⬇️

GrilledCheeseSamurai My main problem is my reading, right now, is all over the map. I'm distracted easily and my mood keeps changing on what I feel like spending my time with. I have a feeling by the end of this I'ma have 6-7 different books started but nothing finished. 😅🤷‍♂️ 5y
JacqMac I‘m having the same problem. 5y
CareBear Me three @JacqMac I‘ve been “reading” for 4 hours now and have probably read 30 pages? 5y
Reggie I haven‘t finished a book in a week! 5y

I loved this one! It went in directions I wasn't expecting which was exciting. It wasn't exactly a cliffhanger but it did say it was the end of book 1. It turns out to be the first in a trilogy. I did not know that going in. I will probably seek out the others eventually. It does have some dark bits so might not be good for young children. (Depending on the child of course.)

Love love loved this book! I was expecting a fantasy and got a superb Science fiction instead and it was a wild ride! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ This didn‘t really feel like a juvenile fiction book due to the intelligent story structure. 10/10 recommend to both child-adult.

TiffanyMichele Like the chapter before the last chapter I was like, “if it ends this way, I would be happy.” Thankfully it did not but still, that is an option if you end up not wanting to continue on. 6y
TiffanyMichele At the end of the trilogy the first is still definitely my favorite 💘. But I would read them all to get the full story. 6y

Great book! I can't wait to continue this series. Full of adventure and great characters. I wonder why they haven't yet made a movie from this book? I bet it would be fantastic.

4.5 🌟 Half physical Book, Half SCRIBD Ebook ➡️what a great book ! I really liked how Eva Nine acted like a normal tween with normal up and down feelings for her age- she had true feelings that are not always “happy go lucky” or perfect as so see in other tween reads. I could see this series as a good middle grade book club pick.

Picked this up without realizing it was the first in a series. Oops!

Eva Nine has been raised in an underground bunker with only MUTHR, the robot who takes care of her, for company. She‘s lonely and longing for adventure. She finally gets her wish to explore the land above ground, but not quite in the way she‘d hoped.

Excellent sci-fi/adventure for middle grade readers.

Breakfast with two very different sci-fi novels. I'm a sucker for both Space Opera and Wizard of Oz type adventures.

My book haul arrived! Bought those earlier this year but was only shipped recently. So happy my trilogy of Wondla arrived, right on time as I was looking for an MG read! HOW BEAUTIFUL IS THIS. The book's got illustrations per chapter!

Been hearing/seeing great things about this series so I was eager to get my hands on it. One of the many benefits of working in a school & being friends with the librarian.

(Cross-posted from Instagram) I think it was @oceancitybooks who tagged me forever ago to post an illustrated book I own. Tony DiTerlizzi's MG WandLa series were designed to be a kind of Wizard of Oz for our times, in which a brave heroine, Eva 9, realizes that sometimes home... Changes. While the plot is pretty predictable, the artwork throughout all three books is truly breathtaking.
