Funny #audiobook with great narration! College student Aviva becomes involved with a married congressman and her meddling mom will do anything to stop it. After it becomes public, Aviva moves to a small Maine town and changes her name to Jane. Her precocious daughter suddenly becomes curious about her missing father. I loved the creative style - using emails and a choose your own adventure parody. Fun from start to finish! #AudioMountTBR

EvieBee You‘re a great book pusher. I love your backlist recommendations! Always available on Libby 🤓🤓 3y
KathyWheeler I read this awhile ago and really enjoyed it. 3y
MallenNC I remember really liking this one too. I bet it is great on audio. 3y

Megabooks @EvieBee thanks!! This was definitely a fun one! I hope you enjoy it. 😁😁 3y
Megabooks @KathyWheeler it was enjoyable for sure. 3y
Megabooks @MallenNC it really worked well on audio. I‘m glad you liked it! 3y
Cinfhen I LOVED this in print!!! Such a great story!! Works for #Booked21 #JewishMC (edited) 3y
Megabooks @Cinfhen yes! I‘ve read a lot of #JewishLit this year and really enjoyed it! I think I used this one for that prompt. 3y
Cinfhen Excellent choice!!!! 3y
Reggie I really liked this book. I thought of it recently because I watched an interview with Monica Lewinsky and John Oliver where she was talking about how she almost changed her name but decided not to because Bill Clinton never probably ever thought HE would have to change his name. 3y
Megabooks @Reggie 🙌🏻🙌🏻 the older I get, the more I appreciate Monica. She‘s one tough lady. I‘ll have to look for that interview. Was it on his hbo show? I just signed up for hbo again. (edited) 3y
Chelsea.Poole I‘ve had this tbr for sometime. Glad to see an endorsement from my #booktwin! This book makes me think of my great aunt who read it and loved it. She was a fabulous reader but is sadly no longer with us. 3y
Megabooks @Chelsea.Poole I‘m sorry you lost your aunt. 💜 I hope you enjoy the book like she and I did! 3y

Read by the author, an immersive memoir of a child‘s immigrant experience from China to America. The details are visceral: the smelly man who took Qian‘s family to McDonald‘s, the comfort of the cat on her bed, the feelings of shame at school. I have no idea how the author was able to tap into her childhood with such feeling. Books like this are why I love memoirs; I have walked in the shoes of this young girl. Exceptional. #theyearofthememoir

Rereading one of my favorites from 2016 as an #audiobook. 👍🏻🪓

BarbaraBB A favorite? I have it on my shelves! 4y
Megabooks @BarbaraBB I loved this back then. I‘ll tag you in my updated review! 4y
Chelsea.Poole Oh my gosh I really liked this one years ago and still sometimes think about it. We have some #booktwin moments! 4y
Megabooks @Chelsea.Poole we really do! 👯‍♀️ if you really like a book, it‘s pretty much guaranteed to be a hit for me. 4y
BarbaraBB Thanks, I‘d like that! 4y

#bookreport & #weeklyforecast

So busy at work this week, so not my best reading week, but I loved what I read! Two coming of age novels, one new and one classic..... both for #popsugarsummer challenge.

Just started an #ARC called Mayflies, and so far so great! Works for #popsummer20 too! 😊👍
Also re-reading Cheryl Strayed on audio for a bookclub next week...

Next up, one I didn‘t get to this week, and another #ARC that comes in September..🎧💕

squirrelbrain The only one I‘ve read is Bonjour Tristesse..... I should start a #booktwin TBR list! 4y
Cinfhen You‘re becoming a #NetGalleyNerd xx 😘 just like the rest of us ❤️❤️❤️ 4y

KarenUK @squirrelbrain I love that idea! 💕😂 4y
KarenUK @Megabooks I loved it..... hence making my book club read it too 😉! 4y
KarenUK @cinfhen I‘m trying to be really well-behaved and not request too many, because I know I‘ll get easily overwhelmed! 💕🤦‍♀️ 4y

#Two4Tuesday

1. The City We Became is definitely at the top of my April pile of books. Also looking forward to Hyperion by Dan Simmons, a SF classic which I have somehow never read.
2. I‘m definitely a “fly by the seat of your pants” reader.

@TheSpineView

Mitch We have almost identical answers! #booktwin !🤣 5y
TheSpineView I have not read Hyperion and it has been on my list forever! Thanks for playing! 📚📚📚 5y

Ok, so this book is DEFINITELY YA and I‘m DEFINITELY no longer a YA....however, that didn‘t stop me from really enjoying this story. Parts were eye-rolling but overall #PhillyRules and this story was 🔥🔥🔥🔥This review was written with a sprinkle of cinnamon and less salt then usual xx

Challenge Prompts: #Booked2020 #YAWrittenByAPoC
#ReadingEurope2020 #Spain And shoutout to the author for a fabulous narration 🙌🏻🎧

julesG 👏👏👏 Great review. Now I'm stacking it. 5y
Cinfhen It‘s really fun and young and spicy 🌶 I think you‘ll like it @julesG even if you‘re not from Philly 😉😊😘 5y
julesG I'm a citizen of the world. 😉 The places I've been (in books), the streets I've roamed (in books),... 😁 5y

Cinfhen @julesG 🙌🏻💗can‘t argue with that😁 5y
Tanisha_A @julesG Love that! 5y
BarbaraBB A sprinkle of cinnamon 🧡 5y
NeedsMoreBooks This turned out to be an unexpected favorite 💖 5y
Cinfhen @NeedsMoreBooks so then I think you‘ll REALLY LIKE 5y
Cinfhen Sometimes us #SaltyGirls can be sweet @BarbaraBB 😘😘 5y
JennyM Love it! 😆 5y
NeedsMoreBooks @Cinfhen I think so. Have only read a few pages but I am enjoying it 😊 5y
Suet624 Her first book was soooo good that I was just a touch let down by this one. But I agree that it was a good one. 5y
erzascarletbookgasm Ha, cute review! 5y
Geenie I‘ve been loving YA too. Reading it not knowing what it was! 5y
Librarybelle I may have to use this one for the #YANovelByAPoC prompt too! 5y
alisiakae Acevedo has become a favorite YA author for me! Have you read Poet X? It‘s also great on audio. 5y
Megabooks This is such a fantastic book. I wish YA were more like this because then I‘d read it more. There‘s too much immature romance for me in most, but this hit the right note, or flavor! 😉😊 5y
Cinfhen No @4thhouseontheleft but I will check it out!!! Go for it @Librarybelle it was a quick listen and I imagine a short read 5y
Cinfhen I‘m generally a #BookSnob about YA which is totally unfair @Geenie as I‘m not the intended audience so I have no place judging but this book was really charming. It‘s my 3 YA since January and I‘ve liked all 3!!! 5y
Cinfhen @Megabooks I like what you did there!!!! 🤣 5y
Cinfhen Ok #BookTwin #SoulSister I‘m gonna check out Poet X next time I‘m craving something less heavy then my current NF / Holocaust reads @Suet624 5y
Suet624 I loved the format of the physical copy of poet x. I read it and then listened to it. Both were excellent but If possible I‘d encourage you to read it first. 5y

What I Loved: A Novel | Siri Hustvedt

Panpan

While I like lyrical prose, I have zero patience for overwrought pretentious paragraphs (and this book is loaded with painstakingly endless pages of indulgent tangents). I realize this book was published in 2003 but for me it feels VERY dated. I‘ve read stories like this before, so this book felt recycled and stale. I know lots of my Litsy friends really loved this one so I‘m sure this is more my frustration and personal disappointment.

BarbaraBB Ah I am sorry to hear that! On to the next! 💕 5y
Suet624 Awww, bummer. I liked the book but I completely understand your issues with it. 5y
Cinfhen Did you like this one too @Suet624 we‘re usually in sync 👯‍♀️#BookTwin and I‘m generally on point with @BarbaraBB too! Wow, I was really off on this one 5y
Suet624 I think I took it really easy with it. I seem to remember wrestling with the pace and excessiveness at first and then made myself slow down and take it in. That helped me with it. It was the writing that I thoroughly enjoyed and the story was secondary to me. And yes, you and me, baby. Book twins. (edited) 5y
Kalalalatja That‘s too bad. I had two friends who really liked it, and their enthusiasm definitely made me enjoy it more, as I noticed all the positive stuff more, because of it. But I get your points about 5y

Mehso-so

This isn‘t a mystery as much as it is a wandering stream-of-consciousness work from an truly odd fictional character. She obsesses about astrology, trying to make sense of her world. And she translates William Blake into Polish with a former student. Not a strong pick for me, but truly unique so I‘m bumping it up a tad.

And my new bookish coffee mug!!

Suet624 Oooh, where did you find that mug? 5y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @Suet624 Got it at a local bookstore. But, here‘s a link to the makers: https://lennymud.com 5y
Suet624 Thank you so much! I just impulse bought one. I love adding to my book mugs. 5y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @Suet624 I do too! Post the one you got and tag me, so I can see! 5y
Suet624 I might have been a copycat. 😁 5y
BookmarkTavern That‘s an awesome mug! 5y
Cinfhen Great mug!!! I‘m on the fence about this book. I tried a different book by this author and I couldn‘t get into it 5y
Cinfhen That website is AWESOME 😁I want EVERYTHING ‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️ 5y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @Suet624 Awww—enjoy!! 😘 5y
Suet624 @Cinfhen I DNF‘ed this book. FYI. 😀 5y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @Cinfhen It‘s definitely a #borrownotbuy book and worth a try. I had to reorient my reading around her cadence a bit. It‘s hard to explain. And I took most of it as simple face value in terms of character and plot. I saw another Litten review it very philosophically. So I think it has some complexity. Anyway ... not sure if this helps or not. 🤪🥰 5y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @Suet624 I can understand that choice. I might have done so except it was an IRL book group read. I try not to DNF those and thankfully this was short. 5y
