Watched this weird little movie last night! It‘s based on the tagged book, which I haven‘t read, but the movie was creepy.

I am both frustrated and in awe. This was EXCELLENT. Without giving too much away, let‘s just say that the bad guy doesn‘t get what he deserves. Might be the first book I‘ve read where that happens. It‘s atmospheric, beautifully written, and honestly quite spooky. Just a general sense of unease but in the best way (if that‘s possible). @Megabooks WOW I loved this!!
A good, engrossing read. Although someone didn‘t get their comeuppance which was a bit annoying. But enjoyed the rest of the story and the characters.
I was listening to an interview with Elizabeth Brundage , and this show was mentioned. I‘m going to have a look , it‘s on Netflix . It‘s based on her novel ( tagged ) which I loved … I‘m reading her first book at the mo ‘ The Doctors Wife‘ so I‘m kind of in her twilight zone … the interview was very interesting. I know some of you read the book ( maybe ye saw this Netflix show already ?! ) @Megabooks @BarbaraBB @Tamra

I am sharing my almost-favorites of the year. The ones who didn‘t make my #Top21Of21 but are favorites nevertheless. One for each month.
This book had been sitting on my shelves for years. In #May @Megabooks encouraged me to finally read it. And how right she was. This is an amazing atmospheric and thrilling book.
I‘m giving this a pick despite the disappointing lackluster end. Brundage knows how to write a thoroughly despicable antagonist and how to build suspense, which made it a compulsive listen and enjoyable. I think perhaps because of that I wanted a more satisfying resolution. Also my same old gripe about the romance that seemed so unrealistic and unimaginative.
Captured misogyny in the ‘70s well!
This book is a force of nature, metaphorically & literally. In Catherine‘s first experience of the house the weather is cold & unforgiving. 1970‘s , an old farm in a town in Vermont, two families intertwine their destinies. The weather , the elements, the psyche, of these people come together to deliver an excellent thriller.. I found myself believing in the ghosts of this book .. believing in the haunting of the past. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
We watched the Netflix adaptation of this book last week, and I have mixed feelings about it (loved the vintage aesthetic, am totally confused about the ending). Here‘s to hoping the book is better!
Catherine is murdered and the focus of the book is more a whydunnit than a whodunnit. It‘s the story of the events leading up to the murder. It‘s the story of an unhappy woman doing the best she can, lonely in a rural community in upstate NY. It‘s the story of her husband who reminds me of Mr Ripley. And it‘s the sad story of the family who lived in their house before them. A riveting psychological and literary thriller. With a few ghosts.
Still a 5⭐️ literary thriller. The book opens to the aftermath of an axe murder, and the author then rewinds and follows the threads forward to it. The question isn‘t so much who did it but why it became necessary and whether he gets away with it. Both those questions are well answered, and that ending...very striking. My favorite character (again) is Willis, a runaway from the Upper East Side who propels a lot of action. Perfection! #reread
Rereading one of my favorites from 2016 as an #audiobook. 👍🏻🪓
This literary thriller opens with the murder of a woman in her home. We then take a long meandering step back and meet the neighbors, their co-workers, even the family who lived in the house before them. At times I forgot it was supposed to be a thriller. I loved all the POVs. This is a slow burn but totally worth it. 4⭐️ book 19
I really enjoyed this. A little bit literary, a little bit thriller, a little bit mystical. I was impressed with this author and plan to check out some of her other books.
I thought that this book was brilliant and very unsettling. I finished in one evening, and then reread it from the beginning. There is a lot of blurring between reality and illusion, time past and present. Lots of dread and atmosphere.
A sharp psychological portrait of a marriage and murder. The question of who the murderer is was never a mystery to me, but the unraveling of the husband and wife was both sad and shocking at times. When I started this, I didn‘t realize the majority of it was set in the ‘70s, but the undercurrent of the women‘s lib movement makes a nice juxtaposition to the uneven marriage. I was somewhat disappointed by the ending though.
I struggled to get into this one and then I struggled to stay interested. Just not a book I enjoyed.
A literary murder mystery, domestic tragedy, and story of one woman‘s liberation. 4/5 stars.

OK I think that I am back on track after confusing the opening dates between my two book exchanges!! @Alfoster thank you so much for these books from my TBR that I am really looking forward to reading. Love the pen, unique bookmark and face mask! I really appreciate your gifts!! 🎅🎄🤩 #whodunitdoesChristmas
I'm hopeless! 🤷🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️ At least I didn't go up to 35$ and just use my 5$ off to cover shipping! @Notafraidofwords I had to have my own copy of ATCTA. 👍🏻
Book Outlet's 50% off deals were right up my alley. All are hardcover!
Audiobook version is a little confusing when it delves into the unnecessary realm of art and God. Interesting story idea with mostly decent writing but it tangented a bit and just ended, like the author decided to be done.
It's been so long since I've posted, but I'm glad this book is the one I get to return to posting with. I don't even know how to really describe it. Not really a mystery, but there were some mysterious elements. More of a reflection on relationships and how the past can haunt the future. So good!
#botm collection has spiraled out of control and needs its own shelf! Oops. 😻📚📚📚📚📚
A pretty fitting bottle of wine for this book!
I really enjoyed this one, especially the twisting narrative and the complex backstories of all the characters. Go and read it!
I also really like this wine, soft but full-bodied and perfect for a Friday nights reading!
Highly recommend both wine and book!
I'm trying to finish a big paper at work, so my boss told me to "spend the evening reading something really good to inspire you to write tomorrow"
So this is my #TBR for the evening....in my defense, some of it is work ???
So tough to discuss this one without spoilers! I can say that the writing was well done, the story was captivating, but I wasn't always pleased with what was happening in it. I definitely had some frustrated moments where I wanted to yell and I can't help but wonder if it would have been more interesting had the murder not been disclosed in the first few pages, but I'd still recommend this if you're ok not always feeling comfortable.
OK, maybe I'm being nitpicky, but you're telling me that the guy in this book hit a deer with a Fiat and there is no damage to the car? Ha ha, this story has me captivated so far, but there are a lot of little unbelievable details like this.
In the mood for something dark and thrilling, hopefully this fits the bill!
I feel like it's a little long but enjoying this so far! What's everyone reading this weekend?
#botm I trusted you! And you betrayed me with these horrible pages. It's hard to turn them! That's literally the only point of pages. Can we #littens band together and get these stupid things banned??

And now for something completely different....murder in upstate New York! Mystery and psychopaths and farmhouses 🙀🙀😺
The most gripping book I've read in ages. And yet so human. Beautiful!
I really, really enjoyed this mystery thriller. I absolutely love it when I start thinking one thing about a person and then my opinion completely changes as more of their story unfolds. This book was gripping - I didn't stop listening from my morning commute through a full day in the lab!
Today's #labsoundtrack while I have the entire lab to myself - best kind of work days!
Liking it so far. Can't figure out whose story this actually is..... But pupper wanted in on the reading 😊
Not really sure how to rate this one. It was definitely not what I was expecting. Thought it would be a thriller but it was more just about the characters and their lives. The writing was good, but it drove me nuts that she didn't use quotation marks at all. Are all her books like that? Still giving it a pick since it was enjoyable for the most part.
Really enjoyed this author's writing style and the story set-up. The book starts with a murder and then flashes back to show how it all came about. The ending is a bit abrupt but that does not take away from an enjoyable read.
“She loved being a housewife and mother. The feeling in her body, of being used. The heaviness in her womb and breasts. Her thighs. God had given her a capable pair of hands. And she used them. She used her whole body.”
Loving this description of being a Mother.
Amazing character- driven look at marraige and relationships.
As of today, I have read 234 books in 2016! 🎉📚🎉📚🎉 Here are the best 12. Some are on sale on Kindle (Lab Girl, Sleeping Giants, Evicted) and Audible (IMGTWWW).
Also, Best YA: The Sun Is Also a Star
Honorable mentions in fiction: Only Love Can Break Your Heart, My Best Friend's Exorcism
Here's to a bookish 2017! 🍾🍾
Eh
I really wanted to love this book but it just kind of fell flat for me. I felt I had to force myself to read to get through parts of it. I will say it did pick up for me near the end and there were parts that gave me the creeps but I just felt relief when I finished it.
Very disappointed with this but finished it because I wanted to find out what happened. I really despised George Clare!
Let the book hangover begin... This was amazing! Not just a 5 🌟rating for me, it's going straight to my list of all time favorites. Incredible writing and story telling. ❤️
Fantastic story line and the narrator is perfect!!!
