He is shocked and then proposes. She accepts. Everyone is shocked. When the couple returns from Vienna, there will be a home for Emma.

What The ? Mildred⁉️
"Do we need tea?‘ she echoed. ‘But Miss Lathbury . . .‘ She sounded puzzled and distressed and I began to realise that my question had struck at something deep and fundamental. It was the kind of question that starts a landslide in the mind. I mumbled something about making a joke and that of course one needed tea always, at every hour of the day or night." ?

Ruthiella Mildred has questioned the very fabric of the universe!😱🤣 2y
AnneCecilie I‘m not a huge tea drinker, so I understand her question. But I can understand that for somebody else this might question everything. But it was nice to see Mildred asking the question. 2y

sarahbellum It was fun to read this while I was listening to the audiobook Infused. Lots of nice crossover about the place tea has had in society and how the rations of WWII changed Britain‘s tea drinking habits 2y
TheBookHippie @sarahbellum I‘ve had that on my wishlist a long time !!! 2y

DivineDiana The constant tea drinking seemed so polite to me. It certainly increased my desire to have a cup of tea! 2y
Crinoline_Laphroaig @DivineDiana never go wrong with tea! 2y

"You shall not, for the sake of one individual, change the meaning of principle amd integrity, nor endeavor to persuade yourself or me, that selfishness is prudence..." This! Damn, Jane, did you have a crystal ball? This line hits different this time around - so relevant. ? #pemberlittens #chapter25 (Yes, I'm really behind again).

#pemberlittens #chapteraday #chapter25 Mrs. Gardiner is that aunt we all want. The one who you can confide in and count on when your parents just don‘t get it. We get to see Mrs. Gardiner as a stable maternal figure for Jane and Elizabeth. Also, It‘s been so long since I last read this, I‘d forgotten that Mrs. Gardiner had a sense about Wickham from the start.
