Sweet if you ignore the instructions for gender roles/jobs. The last chapter - St. Nikolas Feast was precious. #ChildrensClassics2020 @TheBookHippie

Took me back to my childhood. I reread those old Green Meadows stories so many times. When I wanted to share them with my daughters, I could only remember Jerry Muskrat. Couldn't remember the author's name either. I'm so glad I decided to do this challenge with @TheBookHippie Thanks. #ChildrensClassics2020

TheBookHippie These are wonderful I heard there is a book with most of the tales in it!! I am on the hunt ! Such warm fuzzy stories. 4y

Mehso-so

Published in 1749, my preconceived notions of sermons were dashed when a gaggle of young girls fought tooth and nail for an apple out of a whole basket of them. Then each little brat began to share her own secret vice - envy, vanity, snubbery, etc in order to cleanse herself from all sin. I liked them better when they were fighting.

TheBookHippie Reminded me of my parochial school 😳 and I actually laughed thinking OH MY WORD. It was like that for hundreds of YEARS! My friend reading it says the same!! It‘s our school experience 😳😳😳 4y

I‘ve been thinking I‘d like to invest more time in classic novels. I‘m wondering if there‘s an existing book club for this or if anyone would be in to doing this with me. I‘d like to focus on books that I seemingly “should” have read by now or haven‘t read in years. My interpretation of “classic” is open & I‘d love to get a group of people with all kinds of perspectives in on this. Let me know if you‘d be interested or know of a group like this.

Jeshara I've recently decided to start working some classics I've never read onto my reading list. I don‘t know of a group, but I'd join one! 4y
Annie1215 @Jeshara glad to hear it! I need people to hold me accountable so I don‘t get sidetracked by newer shinier books lol 4y

Books4Ever I‘d be up for joining a group like that 😊 I‘m part of the PemberLittens write now and we are reading through Jane Austen novels it‘s really fun 4y
Butterfinger @Reviewsbylola is over #ClassicsChallenge2020 Very informal. You set your own goal ( mine was 1a month) and tag her with your post of whatever you read. @TheBookHippie is over #ChildrenClassics2020. She has a list to follow. I'm a month behind. I enjoy reading and discussing classics so I am open to your group too. 4y
Bklover I‘d love a group like this. 4y
i.besteph I‘d definitely join you! I feel like there are many classics I should‘ve read by now but haven‘t hahah. This would be a great opportunity to catch up. Lmk if you‘re ever joining a group or would be making one yourself. I‘ll be down for it! 🙌🏽🙌🏽 (edited) 4y
TheBookHippie I‘d join it‘s what I read mostly I‘m always up for rereading. #ChildrensClassics2020 is going on now every year I make a monthly list for children‘s classics I‘m making the list for 2021 now. #pemberlittens read Austen (edited) 4y
Laughterhp At the beginning of the year @Reviewsbylola had a classics group. It was very low key. I don‘t know if it‘s still active. My goal was to read classics this year, but I failed 100%. 4y
Laughterhp Oops! Just saw someone else posted that information for you too! 4y
LitStephanie I would participate. 4y
Reviewsbylola Thanks for the tag @butterfinger @laughterhp. #classicschallenge2020 is super informal—most of us have set goals (mine is 2 classics a month) and we just use the hashtag whenever we post. @annie1215 4y
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick I might not read them all, but I would pop in for a classic or two throughout the year. 4y
sprainedbrain I love classics, and would happily join in! 4y
eeclayton I'm interested too! 4y
Nute I would happily participate! 4y

After reading the Velveteen Rabbit with Chaya last night, this is how I found her this morning. Most of the stuffed animals had fallen in the floor. How I love books!!!

We both loved the simple story with unfamiliar vocabulary - bracken.

UPDATE
Due to libraries closed I cannot read my planned MAY selection. I‘ll have to pick it up at a later date.
SO
I decided on this one. I‘ve several differing copies, but I‘m going to put it on my kindle as well. It is getting warmer I can sit on my patio in the am with coffee, watch bunnies in the backyard, I thought this would be fitting.

TheBookHippie Everyone welcome! 4y
GingerAntics Oh, I‘m in! I‘ve never actually read this book, either. 4y
JaclynW I've wanted to participate in your #childrensclassics2020 but it's been difficult with my library closed. I actually have several versions of this book though, so yay! 4y
TheBookHippie @JaclynW SAME PROBLEM!!! 4y
