American Graffiti: A Screenplay | George Lucas, Gloria Katz, Willard Huyck
post image

#LilithJuly #DooWop Some of the most collectible records are of early & obscure doowop groups , really a movement of guys singing a cappella on the stoops of Brooklyn. Some songs like Earth Angel by the Starlighters & some of the songs on the American Graffiti soundtrack like Why do Fools Fall in Love by Frankie Lymon & the Teenagers were big hits.Frankie had a voice of an Angel! They were from Harlem. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q96ylFiQK_I

Centique Man what memories! My parents played those songs so many times when I was a kid 😍 4mo
Leftcoastzen @Centique So I should be reading, when I got it out to take the photo, I had to listen to it.😂😍George Lucas was brilliant before Star Wars ! One of the early films to use original songs as a soundtrack, early Harrison Ford appearance..I could go on... (edited) 4mo
Centique @Leftcoastzen 😂😂😂 That‘s one of the best things about photo challenges I think. Finding things to photograph and getting distracted by them! 4mo

I looked for books set in the fifties, the prime time of #DooWop & saw one of my favorites & also a favorite book-to-film adaptation (except for the unfortunate Colin Firth character & his mustache. Don‘t make my Mr. Darcy an ugly sleazeball!😱). Anyway, there‘s a college dance & music & Fats Domino on the movie soundtrack, so I think it counts. 😉

AsYouWish Love this book and movie!!!! This was the movie that started my love of Alan Cumming, although his character was quite creepy. 4mo
DebinHawaii @AsYouWish Yes! Alan Cumming was most excellently creepy in it! 😆 4mo
Liatrek I love this movie and always wanted to read the book. 4mo

“Wait, you don‘t understand. If you don‘t play, there‘s no music. If there‘s no music, they don‘t dance. If they don‘t dance, they don‘t kiss and fall in love and I‘m history.”

(Day 24 - #DooWop)

*DooWop, wow—couldn‘t think of anything—except hairdo(o)s? Okay, so, remembering “Steel Magnolias” here—not a book, but a play followed by a movie that did more to illustrate the friendships of women on screen than any other movie since “The Women” (1939 version). We need literature & plays & movies like these to acknowledge, affirm, & celebrate the beauty & the singularity of the bonds between women friends. ♥️

KarenUK Lovely post 💕😊 4mo
gradcat @KarenUK Thank you—you‘re very kind to say so. ♥️😊🙏 4mo

With a thank you from Amazon!! Clueless for this one...

Cinfhen I hear ya!!!! 4mo
GingerAntics This sounds really interesting. I love acappella music, but I‘m sure I can find book cheaper than $83 to read about this period in acappella history. 4mo

Size 12 Is Not Fat | Meg Cabot

Heather Wells was a pop sensation in the 1980s, rivaling the Debbie Gibson‘s and Tiffany‘s of the music world. Now, she works at an university and lives with her ex‘s brother, who is very dreamy, in a dangerous sort of way. And, she solves murders.

I read this ages ago, and it is typical Cabot: lots of fluff with humor. It‘s also one of her adult series. #DooWop #LilithJuly

MidnightBookGirl I LOVE this series! 4mo
